Ooe Yofukuten x S&S: Official Contest Thread 2016

Recommended Posts

Cheers Mayno boy. I'm a bit suspicious of the solar powered mechanism, the only problematic seiko watch my father has sports one of those systems. Wonder if there's a good ole automatic alternative.

Not that I have an urge to buy another seiko, I have already two plus my beloved 1977 Certina x Volvo 50th  anniversary watch so all my three arms are already covered.

Thank you @Maynard Friedman. Your link just unwinded a further research, and actually I've realized that there are loads of different Seiko Prospex series with a blue dial. That one is so friggin identical to the SK007 (which I already own) that I would have to be as obsessed as @aho to buy it! the recently released Blue Lagoon and Turtle look fabolous... mmh....

I think the most exciting blue dial model recently will be the SPB053, which comes out November-ish. It's a modern take on the classic 62MAS (which is getting a limited edition homage re-release under the SBDX019 moniker), but answers many of the common complaints people had in the sub-$2K range, namely, lack of sapphire. USD retail is $800-1000, but I've seen pre-orders on Japanese sites around the $650 range, and it'll likely settle around there, or $750 max. Definitely never pay MSRP for Seiko! It may remind you of the SKX, but only because the 62MAS was the very first Seiko diver from the 60's, and all divers since share that same DNA. If I was in the market, this would def. be the watch I'd buy!

On the turtle, I love mine and it was my daily wearer until my GS came in. I feel that 70's/Vietnam War vibe sort of matches you volvo!

^ In the early months, I'll admit that I didn't really see why the Ooes suggested the #17 fabric. It was very appealing raw and crispy, but then felt kind of boring after a couple washes and was very slow to show fading. These past few months, as the jeans are starting to show considerable wear and developing amazing texture, I've finally understood why they consider this denim something special. Guess it shows to just trust the experts...

it's really a crazy looking denim. Very streaky with those horizontal lines. Personally I am not mad at those horizontal lines but undeniably there's something special about it.

Great to see nice fades and to see that Aho managed to not outfat his pair, congratulations!

Man, nice shots in here everyone. Sadly haven't been able to wear my Ooes these past 3 weeks due to a hole in the crotch and job taking up loads of my time now. Hoping to send them off to indigo proof later this week. Jeans before sending them off.

Just got another wash and dry. Have done a bunch of repairs on the stitching on the yoke and crotch but now need to do the pockets when I get the chance

Everyone's pairs are looking great! Mine are... well, I own a denim store, so I have denim-ADD and can't focus on a single pair for long enough.

Yes you could focus on one pair of jeans and still own a denim shop. Kya churned out a number of grail pairs over the years. Believe in yourself, you can do it!

It's true. I've been doing 6 month rotations lately. It's been tough with the amount of good stuff we're landing lately, and there's another couple of projects coming up that'll burn up some legroom.

Ah yeah, photo time. It's a nice sunny day in NYC finally!

I like how they're wearing through at every prominent spot on the right side from my work bag's friction. Little bits of stitching are starting to go on the front and back pockets, but they should be able to make it through September.

Time to officially kick off the contest now that the jeans have reached at least some of you!
Fabric: A14 oz denim with a very light pink selvedge-ID made by a blend of US cotton. It was made to capture the essence of vintage Cone and I'd say it turned out very well. It starts out flat and uniform before it hits water, then it crocks like crazy. Should get some nice vertical falling. The fabric is made exclusively for Denimbridge by Yamaashi mill in Okayama on a Toyoda shuttleloom. According to Shingo it's a small factory which is an important factor for both Shingo and us in this project.
If you want to see a little of how the fabric ages Shingo has started using it for his latest Denimbridge cut. http://denimba.com/denimbase/2018/11/03/23478
You can read more about the jeans on my blog indigoveins.com and also a piece on the guys behind the jeans.
The contest length: The contest will run until January 31th. After that you will all have until February 28th to post the final pics.
The prizes: The winner will win a pair of Denimbridge jeans, sponsored by Denimbridge, and the runner-up gets a €200 voucher from Göteborg Manufaktur.
The jury: A jury of 5 will judge the contest winner: Shingo-san, Kuniyoshi-san, Jonas and Olof that runs Gbg Mfg and myself.

Hey guys, I have some very exciting news to share. Soon I will release a collaboration I’ve done with my good friends at http://www.goteborgmanufaktur.se and Shingo-san of Denimbridge, sewn by the one man army Kuniyoshi-san of Double Volante in their new project Denim Base. 14 oz greatness made in Japan with a really nice vintage vibe to the fabric and a lovely olive herringbone fabric for the pocketbags.

Since there's been talk about doing a Denimbridge contest for a few years now I was thinking now might be a good time with a special release. The jeans will be made in August so a contest could be possible to start late September.
The prize: The winner will win two prizes: a pair of Denimbridge jeans, sponsored by Denimbridge, and also a prize from Göteborg Manufaktur.
Pre-order: The pre-order is running until June 15th via https://goteborgmanufaktur.se/brands/goteborg-manufaktur/goteborg-manufaktur-x-indigo-veins-x-denimbase-gbg001-jeans-pr.html
I'll have more info to share in the next couple of days and will post more details about the jeans. But for now, what do you guys say, shall we put up a contest?

And here we are everyone! It's been an amazing ride with this pair of jeans, and I'm sure you've all enjoyed yours as well. But unfortunately as all good things must, we are now at the end of the contest.
The Rules: The poll will remain open until October 25th, 2017, at which point Neil and Jeremy at Standard & Strange will choose the winning pair out of the top three highest voted. That said, the earlier you post your pair, the higher the chances of you getting more votes!
The Prize: Our lucky winner will receive a brand new pair of Ooe jeans! The details of the pair are not yet public, however, it will be an OA01 cut exclusive to S&S.

I want to thank everyone again for their participation and camaraderie during this contest. I'm excited to see how they all turned out after this past year and a half of wear, in which we've all undoubtedly become connected with these jeans and experienced so much. Thank you so much to Ryo and Hiro for willing to do such contests and limited runs for jeans we couldn't get otherwise; Thank you to Standard & Strange for sponsoring the contest and supporting the denim community with overall awesomeness; and Thank you all for your participation and viewership of this thread, which helps the denim community make the world a little bit more of an interesting place!

Note: Please keep this thread devoid of comments until after polling ends as we'll want to focus only on pictures from the entrants!
