Hello Guys,

I'm interested in S710XX25oz-25TH - 25oz "25th Anniversary Limited Edition" jeans from Samurai.

However, i never deal with Samurai jeans and this kind of heavyweight fabric before and because i lived in a country with no raw denim retail store around, all i can do is doing research on the internet to find as much info as possible.

But even with all the info that i can find online, i wanted to ask help from people of this forum to give advice on the S710 cut sizing for 25 Oz.

I normally wear size 32 or around 82-84 waist depends on the jeans weight fabric. I've compared several measurements chart for this produce across several retailer website and for one washed version, size 32 looks to be around 82 cm range.

So the question I'm currently need is, will this Sammy 25 Oz fabric stretch out or

I don't wear Samurai quite long time. But what I remember my 710 19 oz I sized up from W33 to W34 and they shrunk 5-6 cm. After wear they stretched 4 cm back and after couple of washes they stoped to stretch back. So they finished on unwearable level... Almost all denim pants  I have, stratch back to raw size. I think more heavy denim (oz) less stretch. But also, I have no experience with denim more than 19 oz....

So, along me size up...

Anyone here know anything on Samurai's plans for 2025? At one point they were stopping all stores from shipping overseas or listing on their websites for international orders forcing all to be sold through their site, confirmed by Samurai themselves only for them to turnaround and say there was an error in that confirmation and will make an announcement at the end of the year.

Yet 2nd still has a notice on their site saying it's still on

"As a result of a notice from the manufacturer, the following will come into effect for Samurai Jeans products from January 2025.

・Prohibition of overseas mail order
・Prohibition of listing on mall-type sites

As a result of the above, we will stop new listings on our Rakuten branch and Yahoo Shopping from January 2025."

So anyone have any more info on this? The stopping of shipping overseas isn't that big of a deal as one can always use proxies, it's the not being able to list on Ratuken or Yahoo that's a bit more concerning as it'll make it more difficult to find stuff without a VPN.

It's Samurai trying to "protect" overseas retailers from being undercut by buying from Japan for far less than the crazy markups. We've seen this kind of thing happen before, notable with Pure Blue Japan a few years ago where they dumped retailers like Okayama Denim and Denimio, probably due to protests from overseas specialty shops.

But I've never heard of any brand just not allowing any Japanese retailers to list on Rakuten at all, it's hard to imagine they could actually enforce that since it'd undercut domestic sales for stores to have no online listings at all for a brand like Samurai. That's putting out a fire by bombing the whole building.

The postscript saying to email them if you can't find a product on their site you're looking for, wink and a nod, suggests that they want you to just contact them directly and you'll still be able to buy that way.

Warning: rant/spicy commentary incoming!

I kind of understand both sides on this issue, but since personally I'm mostly buying deadstock or used clothes off Japanese sites like Yahoo Auctions or Mercari for a fraction of the price of comparable new items from an American retailer, I don't really care at this point. At this stage in life I'm unable, or at least unwilling, to summon the cash to pay the bonkers US retailer prices of new items by Japanese heritage brands, so I try to make my buck go as far as it can buying straight from Japanese secondhand sites. Some things, like sweatshirts or tees, I absolutely prefer to buy in person and don't mind a little markup in exchange for knowing I like the fit and fabric. But with jeans, it's easy for me to buy sight unseen and know what I'm getting if measurements are posted.

As an added bonus you often find older versions of jeans, etc. with discontinued features like arcs and tabs on auction sites, which in the case of brands like Samurai is nice since the "old" versions are more distinct than the watered-down, more export-oriented design. Lots of other brands (like Full Count) have done this over the past few years and it always seems to correlate with a dilution of the brand's identity as well as hiked-up prices where you pay more cash for a more generic jean. Back in the day brands like Flat Head and Iron Heart responded to the Levi's lawsuit by revamping their products to have a more unique, less Levis-ripoff-y identity, but in recent years the trend seems to be just eliminating anything that makes a brand stand out from other plain featureless repro jeans.

Yeah the stopping them from listing on other sites will be hard to enforce.

I doubt they will go that route and just pull a Full Count and force all stores to jack prices.

From my understanding it's not so much about protection, it's all about the profit. The international retailers want full control of the market and don't like when we bypass them. They can't justify the insane markups they want to charge us overseas otherwise so they want to limit our choices.

I could understand the issue if the markup was reasonable but it's not. It's just greed.

As mentioned Samurai dead stock is where it's at. Got have my red tags and pocket arcs. So this decision won't effect me much.

Just more reason to explore the smaller brands

There's a bit of misinformation here..   The margins are not what you think they are.  Some of the lowest margins internationally are Samurai, PBJ, and Fullcount.  More importantly, It's not the international retailers doing this, it's the international distributors/agents.  Take it from someone who's spent two decades working with Japanese denim brands; it's ALWAYS the distributors, not the retailers, which are behind these types of sales policy changes.

Yeah I meant the distributors. Thanks for the correction

Anyone buy a pair of one wash samurai lately? Does the inseam still shrink with subsequent machine washes?

I just took a pair in to be hemmed. I'll let you know if I have any issues, though I'll be avoiding washing in hot if I can help it

I washed a pair (S710XX19oz) twice fairly recently, and minimal shrink in the inseam, if at all, but overall, it felt tighter afterward. Particularly the thighs. I will say, I generally stretch ut the inseam when I pull out of the washing machine. As with the 710, I think you gotta go the next size up (at least) so that washing doesn't become a burden. I'm a 36 and went a 38 and so happy I did.

I have a pair of s0510xx in one-wash. I've machine washed on cold about 8 times or so. They were originally hemmed to 30 inches. They now hover around 28.5-29 (give or take for potential measurement method differences) inches. So anywhere from an 1-1.5 inches additional shrinkage.

Samurai S140SXJ, two years of regular wear, many washes. Slubbiest jean I've ever owned and I love the texture and wild fades. My little barn loves the coarse feel almost as much as her favorite Mexican blanket.

EDIT: Added cat with jeans.
