I've had this Old Navy shirt for like 9 years now, longer than I've been interested in raw denim. It was just a cool shirt that fit me well, and has treated me well this whole time. 

The second to last picture shows what the fabric started out like where the placket has frayed and opened up. I've had to repair both elbows which I did with a fun floral fabric I had on hand.

Few randoms as I clean out the closet:

Levi's 519 Premium line, purchased from Levi's Kyoto store in 2006. My first pair worn from raw, loooove the vertical falling on these, really comfortable fabric as well (maybe 10.75 oz.?)

Sugarcane 1966 from 2010. Need pictures of the frontside sometime, the whiskering is really ideal for my taste.

TCB Contest Jeans: Can't remember when this was, but I really tested the limits on this fabric with washing/drying. Wouldn't do it again as I prefer a more balanced washed/air dry look these days, but it was an interesting experiment. The fabric itself has wild puckering/marbling properties

They're really that intense in real life too, really comical 😅

So, I didn’t fade these. I found them on Grailed, and thought that I should post them for a reference of how these fade. I did do quite a few seam repairs to make the stable and wearable. Old Full Count flare/low rise boot cut. 

[Cold Summer]

Flat Head 3005XXX. Worn since August 2018. I lost track of wear time, but I think they’re around 20 months of actual wear. Easily my most worn jeans ever, and washed countless times. I wore these jeans the most over the past summer. I stopped cuffing them and wearing a wallet in the back pocket in this same time. 

Still tons of life left in these. The hem, knees, and rear end/back rise seam all need or will soon need repairs. The jeans were previously repaired at Indigo Proof in 2020 or so, where the front pocket openings were expanded, the pocket bags replaced with deeper ones, back pocket stitching repaired, and cuff tears repaired.

It's been quite impressive that I managed to wear these for so long without the knees blowing out, though they're pretty close now.

Just realized that today marks 2 years since I got these and wow natural indigo is stubborn! Not exact 1873 SDA repro. You can see some minor fading in the crotch and it’s kinda cool how there’s some fading where the back pocket should be. Took em out of the dryer like 5 minutes ago, so they feel real clean. 5 or 6th wash I think.

A Tale of Two Sizes

Levis 501 Shrink to fit with Indigo X pink denim. 

Size 32 x 30 on left
Size 34 x 30 on right

The differences look pretty subtle at first but they are pretty drastic on closer inspection. 

The smaller pair is closer to my true size and shrank to a pretty snug nearly perfect slimmer straight leg. A pretty noticeable difference in the rise, hips, thighs and leg shape. The hem is still fairly roomy allowing all my boots plenty of space.  Oddly enough the two pairs are nearly identical below the knees. 

In contrast the bigger pair is still fairly fitted in the top block due to the higher rise but is much looser in the thigh and all the way down with a slightly roomier leg opening. The knees bags are pretty stretched out too. Closer to a classic mid century fit. Relaxed and straight but not baggy. 

Both pairs have been worn pretty regularly in my rotation for about a year but neither have accumulated the six months of use to qualify for a full wash yet.

 The slimmer pair has been worn about 25% less often but were started a few months earlier. I'm preferring the wear pattern and developing fade on the looser pair and that seems to be a result of the fabric having more room to move and fold while worn. It's also because I prefer the looser fit these days, and therfore they are just getting more wear. 

I took these shots to compare the silhouettes more closely and also to compare the way the denim is fading.
