This just popped up on my Pinterest, can anyone ID the jeans? I clicked through to the link but there was no info.

Might they be the ones made by the boot company, Clinch?
They made some with an extra wide cut like that.

Thanks yeah I couldn’t identify them. The fly/rise looks incredibly high so I wasn’t sure if they do actually have a very high rise and very wide leg or if the wearers stature is swaying how wide/loose they look but either way it’s not a pair I recognise.

Anyone know of any high rise and straight-ish jeans? Rotating into my jean closet and realize I like the straight loose fits more. The straight taper I like still a bit but not meshing well nowadays really. Been mostly into 11.5+ in rises lately and I like the look. Seems most are mid rise though and those that are high are usually in bigger sizes i.e. I'm around the 32-33 waist size.

Does anyone know of any online repositories of Lightning magazine? In particular, looking for the Vintage Sweatshirts one, and after some searching did not find much. Sorry if this isn't okay to ask for here, can definitely remove if needed. I found the following site (https://wclub-lightning.com/collections/reissue-lightning-archives/products/lightning-archives-vintage-sweat-shirts-reprint), but the shipping to the US is wild. For one magazine, it would be more than $50 USD. Thanks!

Yahoo auctions may be the best bet. I've certainly seen copies for sale there.

@tooth If $50 for one magazine is crazy, I’m not sure how to categorize $60 for one magazine…

To clarify i meant >50 usd shipping for one magazine seems a bit out of line, the price of the item seems fair based on other sources.

@julian-wolf I read his post as $50 shipping on top of ~$40 USD for the magazine… so… even with shipping (and tax depending on where he’s located), he’d still be coming out on top if he bought through the link I provided…

I was asked which brands make the longest jeans. I’m 176 cm, so anything fits me, I never really thought about it. But my friend is 198 cm tall. What would you recommend?

Hard to beat New Balance 574s. Photos online always make them look super clunky but they're not IRL in my opinion. Classic, timeless design that has been around for decades and ignores trends.

Seconding New Balance, very comfortable and the made in US and UK models are pretty well made. Some of them get to be pretty hyped but can’t go wrong with the core grey or general releases. I find the 993 and 991 most comfortable, they’re supposedly bringing a bunch of 992 models out this year.

Anyone have any recommendations for good runners that pair well with denim? Love wearing my Red Wings and flat soled sneakers but all the walking on hard surfaces is starting to catch up to my shins and I’m craving something more comfortable.

Not exactly in line with your request but for me, if I’m doing a day of 20-25k steps and I’m not running, and it’s not out in the woods (or it’s just all relatively flat surface) I will feel much better afterwards having done it in Birks or barefoot shoes than any Nike or whatever trainer I’ve ever tried.

@jkbrwn @Broark @oomslokop Thanks for all the recommendations! I'll pop over to some local shops and try on the NB/Asics kicks you mentioned in person - I've seen them worn but never actually put them on myself. First time seeing Karhu as well and they seem great, very unique profiles.

@ATWM If I could I would just rock boots in the winter and converse/birks in the summer, but I'm slowly starting to accept I have criminally high arches and likely need something with arch support to compensate. That being said, I haven't worked up the nerve to try barefoot shoes yet (although I am seeing more and more pop up) so maybe I've got it all backwards and have yet to be converted over to their benefits.

If you're not actually using them for running shoes,  you just want comfort, looks good with denim with a bit of retro charm, i'd go for some lightweight 70s / 80s repro (fat belly swoosh) Nike runners.. waffles, cortez, boston, kinda style.. or maybe some nylon Adidas country or Reebok classics.. they're a lot less fussy and lower profile than modern runners.

I never understood the NB hype models .. i get why people like the base models (the 1400 was a great looking shoe bitd) they're a good solid MiA / MiE allrounder, pub shoe with comfy dad vibes but never managed to appreciate the hype models, just couldn't understand what they offer that the base models don't..? .. it's like putting alloy wheels and a spolier on an estate car :D

It’s literally just different colorways and / or material combinations. The hype recently has been silly, especially with some of the collaborations. There was a recent pair of 993s they did with jjjjjound (idk if I got the right number of j’s or not but you get the idea) and for shits and giggles I jumped in the virtual queue when they were released. Evidently there were 78k people in front of me.  I know that number isn’t likely real, a lot of people using bots to buy and resell but I still thought it was crazy to see for a show that doesn’t look that much different than a general release. FWIW I buy my pairs either at or below retail. Anyone paying resale prices for NB has a screw loose.

A few years ago.. jjjjjjound released a very standard late 80s style cromo MTB.. same story, just a very basic, would otherwise cost $300 MTB but with a jjjound sticker on the frame as a limited release for $2500. Once the hype had died down, you couldn't give them away :D

I don't mind paying for some hype / exclusivity.. but the brands have to give me something, some obscure historical reference or some fancy materials.

To just change a colour, add some branding, call them special and make them limited is just lazy / ridiculous.

Totally agree, jjjjound is one of the worst culprits of this. Sure, some of the NB colorways they come up with are nice, but nothing is worth paying three or four times the retail price.
With the way NB has been doing releases the last few years you’re more likely to find another very similar color (minus the branding, whatever will one do without it?!) on sale by the end of the season anyways.

Each person is different and I’m not a doctor (though for walking pain a visit may not hurt) - but I’ve found the long term benefits of avoiding excessive padding / structure have resulted in healthier and stronger feet. I also have high arches fwiw, though not criminally so.

For people who have never taken that route easing in is generally recommended to avoid injury - but sort of like sitting a lot (without compensatory work) can lead to core atrophy can lead to back pain, that can happen with feet in a way. A lot of padding can help but probably better thought of a bandaid than addressing the root of the issue - and that’s fine and all but worth noting depending on your goals.

Somewhat of a long shot, but has anyone here tried Kotoka shoes out of Nara?

http://https://www.kotoka-store.jp/

I have my eye on either the Ichimaigawa (KTO-2002 ) or Ashinari (KTO-3001).

What I particularly like here - and the reason for interest - is their explanation of their lasts, in particular the oblique last.
Info about that here:

They don't appear to make a boot, but the shoes are right up my street.

Did you ever end up contacting them? I’m contaminating whether size 10 will work or not for me.
