Black jeans lovers!!!

Fullcount released a few of their cuts in black, probably could still find those. OP doesn’t say it has to be black/black, but FC has both versions depending on cuts I think. Also, indigofera gunpowder denim. That’s what I ended up with a few years ago when I wanted a black denim jean that wasn’t a slim fit. Kirk was the fit. They’re beater jeans now but it’s a good pair.

Thanks guys! Here was some I found (made in Japan). TCB had a black one (40s). Real Mccoys still do a black. Also Rubato and Brycelands seems to offer a nice 60s cut ( but very expensive). FC 0105 black is 350usd now. Looking for Black/black weft. I tried on the SC type 3, but rise and was a bit too straight.  Nice to see they regular version, although it looks black/white. Also Burgus Plus etc has a few alternatives.

I picked up my black FC 0105 for about $180 USD. I got the black/natural version but the black/black was about the same if I recall. You might email one of the retailers to see if a restock will come, I am not sure if it is part of the regular rotation now.

The TCB 40’s aren’t available anymore - TCB made a black 30’s more recently, but I think those will be hard to track down too. In the absence of any of these, I really would look again at the Indigofera Kirk. It seems to be the only consistently produced pair (the Japanese brands tend to do limited runs). I would take those over McCoys, personally.

Another maker that I’ve seen in this forum with black jeans is Phigvel, though iirc they were on the pricier side.

As an aside, that selection from Blue Owl is rough. Everything is still relaxed tapered.

I wear my FC 1108 black/black pretty often. Depending on your size, you may still be able to find a pair. I don't know too much about the denim used for these aside from it being the same weight as their normal 13.7oz.

@unionmade not sure what size you are, but I have a pair of Freewheelers 601RB that I’ve been meaning to sell (too small for me). Size 31, unhemmed. Probably 5 wears. If any one is interested I can provide full measurements / pics.

Sold.

Consensus on favorite pairs, fabrics, etc.? I'm completely new to this world, and other than knowing that the usual brands also release black denim versions of their typical cuts, I'm hoping to learn more

If unsanforized is must, then I think TCB is the most stable - released one. They make it in a different cut each year. FW and FC also have them once in a while, not sure about how often.

trying to state the obvious here but I find black jeans much harder to fade than indigo. That is because black jeans (mostly when they’re fresh but also worn) are much less versatile than indigo.

to me, a pair of faded black jeans was something I really hoped for but than when I finally got it I found out it wasn’t really worth it.

It’s on the steeper side but just want to point out if you missed it that OA is releasing a black pair with S+S. Their’s is a black / white weft. That’s the biggest difference with black denim is it’s more common to see black / black, but they do fade differently than the black / white. I think I tend to prefer the faded black/white examples I’ve seen a bit better, but haven’t done that myself (yet).

I’ve hoarded a few black pairs over the years (TCB, FW, SC, FullCount) - out of these I like the sugar cane and the Freewheelers RB the best but they’re all basically unworn so take it for what it’s worth.

I don’t really find black jeans harder to fade than indigo. Just like some indigo is quicker than others, same with black sulphur dyes. I also don’t really find them less versatile, but I guess that sort of depends on the person and what else they like to wear. If I’m not wearing a denim jacket I like a lot of neutral or monochrome tops most of the time - greys, beiges, whites, blacks. Black jeans go with that stuff - just maybe not so amazingly with blue denim, but I’ve seen it work too depending on the stage of wear.

Sort of a less recommended brand here but Indigofera’s gunpowder denim I like and is more easily available.

What type of black are we talking about @aho?

I have a pair of Nudie Steady Eddie II in Black Selvage and Sugar Cane 1947 Black/Black (from SE) and both are black as black. Good for those days you wanna go monochrome or make some color pop. Plus who doesn't look good in black jeans?

If you are looking for more of a white weft black jean, I have the Samurai S710XX-BK. I would say these take the cake as far as feel.

I cut some Sugar Cane SC42460 from Bears into jorts and they are kinda a hyrbid of the above. Both sides are dyed black but the black looks more like what indigo jeans look like. More grayish but still dark.

I used to not really care for black warp/white weft jeans but I've come to appreciate it as an alternative to black warp/black jeans when I want a black outfit but not be too monochrome. There have been a lot of great options for black warp/white weft popping up lately....I personally went with the Boncoura version which I thought looked closer to black than silver/gray.

For all black fabrics, I have a few favorites for different fits....currently I really like the wide leg RS fit from 3sixteen. it's def a modern wide leg but I think it's really easy to wear and drapes nicely. The sugar cane 1947 black fit is a classic straight that I've had multiples of and I also wear my Stevenson Encinitas black jean when I want a slimmer look.

I agree with reallypeacedoff that the samurai BK fabric is really good too.

The black/white Fullcount 0105BK are my favorite jeans at the moment. The fabric has a great drape and the fit is nice and roomy. I like them even better than my indigo Fullcount 0105.

I also have a pair of black/black TCB S40s. I found the deep black of black/black fabric to be surprisingly less versatile than the dark gray-ish of black/white fabric. I also prefer the more subtle fades of black/white.

Thank you all for the feedback! So lacking was my knowledge that I didn't even consider there were black/black and black/white fabric variations 😅 But vintage black 501's and 505's have been making the rounds the past couple years on the Japanese vintage outlets I follow and something finally clicked with me (the marketing, I guess)

@Hopethisoneisnttaken it's looking like TCB might be the route for me, especially given the price point and not being sure how often I'd wear them but I'll have to check if they have a black/white

@ATWM it was the Ooe's (along with the vintage trend) that piqued my interest if I'm honest 😂. Did you pre-order?

@reallypeacedoff thanks for the Samurai tip! Remember seeing those pop up here and there back in the day and always liked the fades. Could be a good option if I like where the TCB's take me

@youngofthesoonest will look into the Boncoura's as well, thank you!

@discwork Fullcount getting much of my business (currently breaking in 0105's and 1101's) so it'd also be interesting to try them in black/white! Much appreciated

Don't listen to him @aho.. this is either a bot-post, a complete and utter mental breakdown or a hideous dream he's just awoken from.

Just remember one very simple rule..

Never, ever, ever.. wear black jeans with a blue denim jacket.. ever!!

Florals and stripes would be a lesser crime against fashion :D

Nope - I’ve seen it fly when the jacket both are pretty beat to hell. Not my favorite but in the realm of the doable there is much worse out there. Much better than loafers and jeans, for example 😇

And @aho yeah I did.

I have a difficult time wearing black jeans for whatever reason, I'm sure it's just mental but I can't seem to get past it.
I did stop into SE yesterday and I saw the black Boncoura painters pants and the five pocket jeans, those both have a really interesting color / hue to them.
If the painters pants didn't have a zipper fly I'd probably give them a shot.

I’m with 00 on this one, although I’m not sure how serious he was being

There aren’t all that many “rules” that I consistently follow when dressing myself, but not mixing black & blue denim is one of them
