SUPERDENIM SMALL QUESTIONS THREAD (Use instead of making new threads)

I had an N-1 and wore it while working construction a couple of winters ago. As others have mentioned, it was warm while standing still but absolutely awful to wear while working, and even worse when it got humid or rainy (of which it is both very often in seattle) to the point I said f**k it and gave it someone camping in the city one night. Probably much better suited for their use than mine!

edit: also, I’ve asked this before but am still having a hard time finding anything. I’m looking for a 100% cotton, black work pant with a high rise and somewhat well-fitting leg. The sugar cane mountain cloth work pants are basically perfect except they only come in navy. Anyone have any other recommendations??

Wasn't there a pant like that from Boncoura?
Also Orslow might have something.
Perhaps Colimbo, too.

Colimbo, Cushman, maybe John Gluckow too. Are you open to duck canvas? That might give you more options, or some black chinos like the Buzz Rickson William Gibson pants?

Not so sufu oriented but I’d look at de bonne facture - I don’t know about right now but I’m almost positive I’ve seen them make this before. If this is a pant that’s gonna get thrashed at work though, then I wouldn’t because they’re too nice for that.

@chicote I like these by Nuu, the artist formerly kniwn as tatsunosuke or Woods Mountain

Oh man those are great! Thank you Michael! I'm not sure whether he ships internationally but will try and figure that out. Really appreciate it!

@okimoto I'm open to duck canvas for sure, if the cut is right. I have about 8 yards of vintage black Carhartt fabric that I thought about using to make myself some pants if all else failed. If you have anything ready-made you know of i'd love to see though!

@Double 0 Soul those tuf-nuts are really nice, definitely check all the boxes except for the poly blend ... i am a proud cotton-lover through and through ...

I'm definitely a fan of the BR/William Gibson chinos but they are full on vintage wide.

Chicote mentioned a 'well fitting leg', perhaps meaning slimmer.

Mister Freedom might have something like that. High rise but slim.

Update - I looked and apparently not. Everything black in MF pants is denim.

Nice eh... he probably reads Sufu... one of them lurkers... what would you pair them with Neal?  I'm guessing you're not going with an N-1? 😊

@chicote One more - Belafonte, on sale here - I know you have the hi-back in that nice fabric (which I then bought after seeing your pics!) so these might work if you're OK with a grey stripe... they look pretty cool imo

They will be releasing an all black version of the hi backs later on this year I think. It’s on their ss25 catalog.

Certainly not a well washed chore coat.. new black trousers with well worn denim just isn't visually appealing.

It doesn't even work as a larp.. it's just not a cohesive outfit.. think about it, clothing back then was insanely expensive, one would have at least 9 kids to support and a wife if she hadn't already died from either tuburculosis or childbirth.. on the salary of a labourer?

A pair of fancy trousers would set you back the equivalent of 3 months wages.. so why would one buy them to pull on your chore coat and go work down the old asbestos mine? ..you wouldn't .. if the trousers were beat to fk.. patched at the knee, torn hem, pulled in at the waist.. this would make absolute sense, your wife had probably bought them at market with the spare change she made as a domestic servant and repaired them for you to wear at work.

The pants would work better with something like a sack coat.. just a few steps up the working-class food chain.. maybe the look of a factory worker or engineer.. alas, i'm not a stylist, just a contributor to a once great denim forum so what do i know?  :D

They do look perfect with the sweatshirt tho.. highwaist, loose pants with short fitted sweat *chefs kiss* 😘

They look perfect! ..alas worn with a blue denim jacket? .. pfft! they need to come here for some styling tips.

I knew that would get your goat, ha.

I was wearing black jeans and a blue denim jacket last week and got 2 (!!) random public compliments on it. That is not so common.

While fully aware of my sartorial subversiveness/terrible taste, I had to giggle a little inside.

@chicote The Buzz x William gibson chinos were also the first thing that came to my mind.

You might want to look at Ben Davis - they have one black workpant in 100% cotton, but I don't think that your size is in stock on their site (I can't post the link for some reason). Randy's Garments have some 100% cotton black workpants too, but sizes are also picked over.

Looks like a pair of black Rick Owens trousers in the window there... Neal's favourite 😉

Is this store targeting goth ninjas that also enjoy gardening? Impressively niche!

I think the edgy 'goth ninja' quickly became 'mall ninja' .. alas now 'patio ninja' seems to be the final resting place of that sub-culture..

Good times indeed, seems like the rest of the forum is pretty quiet these days...
I often wonder where all our techwear fans migrated to honestly.

Chinos weren't thought of as fancy pants. In WW2 everyone from a fighter pilot to a guy swabbing out a toilet wore the same chinos (assuming they were in the same military service).

That being said, pairing black and blue can be a tricky proposition.
