I have a set of NOS tartan checkers seat covers for my volvo 240 leather seats. Pure authenthic Swedish stuff from the early 80's bought on Tradera a couple years ago. I will have an excuse to open the bag and use them, pretty excited about it haha!

Hi BionicEye, the TCB 20's contest will start on sept 1st 2017. the contest pair is a special version of the TCB 20's with a different leather patch and a few little extra details here and there compared to the standard 20's. the contest will last for 18 months. There will be some good prizes, as they were on the TCB 50's contest. There's still loads of time.. so far this is all I can say about it.

Re: fabrics. I prefer the 50's fabric as it has more color and texture variation and it looks great either hardly worn or worn really hard. The 60's fabric doesn't look as good when fresh and new but then becomes absolutely mighty when it takes off. First 6 months may be a bit boring but then it pays off (just look at Holio's pair!). My second pair of 60's is taking off right now, and it's becoming hard to put them down and wear other pairs.

on another note your 50's look great, another 6 months of monogamous love and they'll be dad style grail! I don't have a dryer at home but I am toying with the idea of buying one for the fades haha!

This info has me strongly conflicted now. Having bragged in my last post that my 60s still hadn't needed any repairs I noticed yesterday, when I washed them that in fact they are decidedly thin in a couple of places. Nothing that a good darn and maybe a patch won't put right, but clearly they are approaching the tipping point. Either wear to death and keep for posterity, or retire whilst in their prime and save them for special days. So... while I decide what to do and what the next pair will be I am back in my Norman Porter NP01s which are a slightly slimmer cut than the 60s, and I'm really digging that. 

I had thought that I'd go outside my comfort zone with the 20s, but a 60s (almost) cut in the 50s denim sounds too good to miss... why Volvo WHY????

edit - crisis averted. Just remembered I'm next on the 20s tour, so I can make my decision when I've had those for a month. What a tit I am...

Indeed you are a tit! haha! slagging apart, it seems TCB will be making a variation on what I've written in that post you quoted. they're going to launch a new model which they call 50's slim original. Basically it's a slimmed down version of the 50's, featuring an original pattern rather than the 60's cut.
Wear the 20's for a month and hopefully you will come up to the conclusion that a loose pair of jeans is a great thing to have.

On a different note I've recently succeeded to buy BF's tapered version of the 60's. That will be my third pair, I plan to check the fit, shrink them and send them to be hemmed to the correct length and then store them away in the vault for a couple years, while I finish my job with other pairs and play the TCB 20's Olimpics...

BF ordered a custom pair of 60's, slighty tapered by TCB. At the end they didn't work for him so I bought them. I reckon they should end up to have a 22 cm hem width circa at my desired inseam length of 30 inches.

My chambray ranchman size 46 arrived today. The fabric is really great, with a bit more of a gray-purple cast than say the truer blue of the BR chambray. I'll get some side-by-side pics up this weekend. I took measurements immediately and found them to closely resemble the specs listed for a 44. Shoulder at 20" and chest 24" pit to pit both on the front and the back. Admittedly, it's a shade big in the shoulders as I'm built more column-like than triangular and 19-19.5" is usually best. But given the high arms holes and the shape of the pattern from the pits through the waist, I think the size 44 would have been cutting it too close. A little bit small always strikes me as way worse that a little bit big. 

To my surprise, the tag explicitly states do not tumble dry. Have others dried anyway without any problems?

I've machine washed my chambray dozen of times.  No problems.  I haven't tried to dry it though, I don't even have a dryer.

Re Tcb WWII Hajime has not yet found an original to copy. I know he'd love to find an original and make a WWII repro.

Re WWII contest, I'd join too as long as it's made by a small scale repro nerd Japanese brand,  tcb or not. And as long as doesn't cost an arm and a leg... 2019 contest? Haha!

Dry cleaning is unnecessary. The advice is not to tumble dry, probably because the heat leaches out resins, which takes more indigo with them. It's also wasteful and bad for the planet.

 

A machine wash is an entirely different thing,  won't cause any problems, and again is better for you and for the planet than dry cleaning which uses solvents. Hand wash and line dry is also a good way to go of course.

Haha, at least we're keeping busy! Denimbridge could fit the bill. But then again, we've got some time on our hand to decide that, haha.

A Denimbridge competition sounds just the ticket. I don't know if I'm just looking in the wrong place, but Denimbridge doesn't really seem to get much interest outside of Japan despite it looking top notch.

Jokes too close to reality aside, the thing about denimbridge is that it's essentially a one man show working with various production houses for each small batch run. After an almost three-week wait, I finally got my 50s Jacket. 

I really like the fabric, it has a lot of personality, as you'd expect from loomstate denim. The details and construction are really good. Sleeve length is pretty good, I wouldn't mind the body length being a little bit shorter (maybe about 0.5-1" or so) but as it is, it hits right around where my belt ends on most pairs of my jeans, like I wanted.

The only gripes I have concern how the jacket fits around the arms. The sleeves are ridiculously slim. I would've liked about an extra 1" width through the sleeves, and especially for the arm hole to open about 1" lower. I've never worn a jacket that felt so snug around my armpits/upper arms, and I'm already very skinny (really the only reason I can make this fit work at all.) I'm concerned that if I keep going to the gym and gain any upper body mass at all, this thing is not going to fit me anymore. It's already not comfortable with my thicker flannel shirts, though thinner shirts (like in the photos) and tees seem like they'd be a good match for this jacket.

I don't think that I'd want to size up, I don't want a jacket to be longer than this. At that point I'd rather just wear my FH denim shirt.

it looks quite the perfect fit on photo. the arms are cut high, true. as goodrain says the fabric has a bit of stretch so give it a go for a few days it'll stretch.

I can button it up fine, but it pulls at the pleats, which I think looks kinda silly... doesn't really bother me since I didn't plan to wear it buttoned up anyway.

yo, it's the perfect fit!!!  the tightness of the sleeves is what's so special about this jacket.  look at the crazy freaking creases on volvo's jacket!!!!  don't worry about the tightness, just wear the hell ouf of the jacket and the material will stretch.  trust us.

 

wear the jacket how you want it.  please, don't be influenced by what you see.  be the trend, don't follow them, please!!!!!!
