In my opinion, the 1937 501XXc made in 1998 are the best! They are currently available deadstock all 36 length in waist sizes 31, 32 and 33* (* only a few left). https://item.rakuten.co.jp/codet-r/levis-37201-0003/

Hi @Dry, what is the actual size of your 1937 501xxc tagged 31 ? did they shrink a lot after soak/wash ? I'm wearing size 30 in LVC 1955 and wondering which size for the 1937 i should get

thanks in advance!

you can buy newer production 66 501s made with kaihara denim from japanese sites. intriguing! seem these haven't been available for purchase in the west for years.

anyone have firsthand experience with them? apologies if i missed some discussion of this, i looked and didn't find it.

rakuten listings all seem to have the same copy- must be supplied by LVC (japan?)- size up 2 in the waist, inseam measures at 86cm raw but then shrinks 5 or 6cm.

don't really trust levi's advice at this point... would be great to get measurements from someone with a newer pair... anyone?

related- anyone know if there were L36 pairs in smaller waist sizes while the 66s were miUSA with cone denim (W29, W30, W31)? Never see L36s, just L34s & L32s... and just to confirm, those were typically true to  waist size after washing?

Picked up an LVC 70505 0217 from eBay and thought I'd do a couple of comparison pics with my original vintage one.
Both labelled as size 46 but the new version is much longer.

Need some advice on the new jacket please.

Fit is perfect on the body but arms are too long.

If I give it a cold soak, then put just the arms in much hotter water for a bit is this likely to shrink the arms a bit and not much body wise or is it going to cause any issues I haven't thought of`?

It's still crispy atm but don't mind it being softer.

You can try the targeted hot soak of the arms. I have the same jacket, and I find the fit perplexing.

A slightly weird thing is that I can't find anything showing what factory this was made in?

Nothing on the buttons and nothing on the inner labels, although there is a tear-off Made in USA tag.

I wonder why Lvc have tweaked the design of their type 3 so much, l guess it's to accommodate more modern tastes in style or how something is worn or used? The pocket shapes and pocket flaps are so much squarer and boxier than their previous iterations of this Lvc design (c.2000-2010) maybe it's to fit more digi-gadgets in them?

I'm also suprised that they didn't 're-imagine' the handwarmer pockets as they've lengthened it, artistic licence and all that.

Your og type 3 is gorgeous btw.

Collection just released on their UK website.

Hard not to be better than the laughable 90s collection but nothing great again.

One nice looking jacket in an on page ad but can't see it for sale?

Screenshot-2022-02-17-at-09-48-09.png

Also notice they now only go up to 36" waist so wouldn't be able to buy any even if I wanted to.

Weird that a US brand is doing much more limited sizes than many Japanese brands but I guess LVC is on it's last legs nowadays so maybe makes sense.

So a hot soak didn’t help with the arms on my 70505.

Think I need to get them tailored, looking at the remake the cuffs look to be chainstitched, however I don't think the original was chainstitched?

I rang Rivet and Hide today to ask if they can chainstitch the cuffs to shorten the arms but turns out you need a different machine/attachment for that and they can only do hems.

So either try again with hotter water, get them shortened by a standard tailor or just live with it.

A good tailor could fix it right up! I say get the fit how you want it. LVC messed up with the arm length on that jacket.

The thing is when you look at both jackets the arms look to be similar proportions.

However the body is quite a bit longer in the modern remake so the arms are actually far too long.

The really annoying thing is I also have a 557 repro and the arms on that are a bit short, if it were possible to average out the arms they'd be perfect :P

Can anyone advise on 66' 501 sizing? Currently wearing W38 47's and W36 55's.

Thanks!

Be the same as your 55’s from experience. Where are you seeing 66 for sale? I’m after a new pair

Scored some 47’s at the rose bowl today for $50. Looks like someone wore them for 6 months and washed them once. Still very dark. Nice cut on these. VERY slim compared to a sugar cane 47 in the same size.

Pants shop Avenue has the 66. I'm going to email naoki about the 37.

I don't know if I'm double posting this or not. My first attempt didn't go through. Anyway, '66 specs in size 36 courtesy of naoki:

"The waist is 46.5cm, upper thigh is 34cm, front rise is 30.5cm, back rise is 39cm and leg opening".

What’s the leg opening size these days? Thanks

Hello guys, It's my first post here. I am Denimseeker (ig: denim_seeker).
I have been collecting vintage jackets for a while, esp. denim jackets. Feeling that the denim world deserves a better guide for Levi's denim jackets so I tried my best to make one. The guide is much more complicated than those you see on other websites (i.e. Heddel's or Long John etc) so you might need some basic understanding to read it. This guide is open for comments and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know. This guide is still a work in progress and would be wonderful if everybody in the denim world can contribute.
      That being said, enjoy!

      Hi All,
see you again on 2020 and I wish you all happy new year. this time I need your opinion about Levi's BIG E that I found at flea market few days ago. I found an old Levi's vest (its a jacket once before), this vest do not have a cinch back, I also cannot see the number on the back of button, tag was unavailable. only rivets, red tab and selvedge that I can see clearly. here's I send you the details. Hopefully someone here can give me an opinion regarding this Levi's. Any opinions are welcome, I do appreciated.
      please let me know.

I checked the Encyclopedia thread and only one Levi's link didn't give a 404 error, so here goes nothing. I should add that a lot of the center patch jeans actually aren't vintage (at least the ones I'm looking for) and date back to around 2006. I've talked with Levi's support a handful of times and got nothing out of it. I'm trying to figure out what all the center patch pairs are. I know I haven't quite figured them all out, but I've found a few, though they seem very hard to come by, and obviously aren't currently in production. I'd really like to find a pair with the white "Quality Never Goes Out of Style" center patch. Something tells me I don't have the ideal wording, and if I knew exactly what to type, I could probably find a plethora of those jeans. When I google 519's, I have to block the words extreme or skinny (add a - in front of whatever word you don't want to see in the results) or I get mostly brand new pairs of 519's. Here's what I know so far:

This pair, which can be seen clearly in the first photo and on this store page (which has other photos of the same pair) appears to be 519 slim fit. However, they don't seem to be the normal 519 slim fit. One site I looked at called them "519 slim fit side adjusters". I have looked extensively over the past couple of weeks and was lucky to find that clear photo, as well as that store listing and one Ebay listing which sold a while back. On a side note, I found that 511 skinny leg (or a version, rather) seems to look the same, with the centered white patch and waist adjusters, but they too are hard to find. The 511's and 519's have a white patch that says, "Quality Never Goes Out of Style". There may be others as well.

You may recognize these from the Moonbathing ads. They are part of the "Two Horse Brand" collection, which have a yellow and white patch and say "Two Horse Brand" on the patch. 506 and 511 look identical, while 509 has the addition of a cinch back. There might be other fit numbers I'm missing.

Levi's Engineered has some center patch jeans as well, though I'm really trying to find more of the white patch pairs.
