yes Eagle. above Locarno (Tenero) close to Lago di Vogorno... beautiful place, nice view on Lago di Magiore and all around, nice food (not tourists places - you have to go little bit down) and excellent air to bread... and easy hiking....

I made Duke a little rack for his leatherworking tools today..

I drilled a plywood template for the holes.. it's easier to get the spacing right on the temp, rather than have numerous confusing lines on your oak.

I cut a block of oak from a board and sanded it square.. put the template on top and drilled through the holes.. not all the way through, just a couple of inches down

Used my guage to mark out a 15mm thickness

Cut it off

Sanded it flat..

I did the same thing from the bottom of the board (which is why i only drilled 2" deep) giving me 2x pieces of oak with a series of holes on the exact same centers and one piece of oak with no holes to form the base of the rack and laminated the bottom 2x pieces together

..this is only because when i look in the bottom of the holes.. i don't want to see the point left behind from the forstner bit

I wanted some wooden dowels to peg it together.. but i wanted them in a dark contrasting colour... huf!.. y'know that moment in your day when all you need a small perfectly round piece of honduras mahogany but it's been on the endangered species list since 2013?.. well fear not superdudes

Y'know those people who say 'you can't fit a square peg in a round hole' ?.. well those people are fucking idiots

Get a bit of metal with a hole in it and nip it up in the vice

..tap your little peg in

..tap it through with a drift punch, turn the metal upside down and hey presto!

Using the oak off cuts.. i've bobbin'd out a couple of slots..

Im going for a mid-century kind of vibe

..started building it.. i'll hide that little rebate later, i french polished the internal parts before i put the top on so i wasn't french polishing through a narrow slot

..tapped my handmade pegs in.. now the labourious task of sanding out the marks from the machines..

..french polished the outside and gave it a coat of wax

..and there you have it

let me tell you guys something … @Double 0 Soul asked me what payment I wanted for the leather on his headphones; I couldn’t say and anyway it was a fun project for a mate - I got to do something different and I learned a bit more … so casually (and rather thoughtlessly I now realise) I said to Neal to make me a little tool rack.

It was a thoughtless request because:

1. I should never forget Neal doesn’t do anything by halves;

2. This means that instead of a glued balsa wood assembly I was thinking of, he goes out and does what you see here

It’s not a tool rack … it’s the best piece of furniture we’ve got in the house. It looks and feels mid-century as Neal said, it smells lovely and I ab-so-fucking-lutely love it

Wood is such a tactile material and when you’ve got someone who understands it so well then you can only end up with a beautiful object

The leg of my Dior jeans is stacking firewood. A cyclone back in Feb destroyed our 80 year old liquid amber tree. Have spent hours with chainsaws chopping and removing it. We are onto the last of it, Steve is splitting it and I’m stacking it. Leg of the jeans makes a great arm cover. One of our resident spiders as seen in the old movie arachnophobia.. love them but don’t like it when they accidentally get on me.

Recapping from our trip to London and Paris, had a great time in both cities and thoroughly enjoyed both for varying reasons.
Thanks to everyone who reached out and suggested places to go and things to do, 10 days wasn't enough time!
A couple of notes, won't overload the thread with too many photos but here we go.

1.) Y'all deal with a lot of rain! The N1 held up well, in hindsight something a little lighter weight but water-resistant would've been better.
2.) Everyone we ran across was very friendly, would definitely visit both cities again in the future. The whole "entitled Parisian" thing is completely overblown by people online.
3.) We had to deal with some serious travel and transportation woes. We were supposed to visit the Cotswolds on the 28th, but someone was tragically hit by a train. So we tried gaming the national railway system and going around through Reading, only to get stuck there for hours. Missed the tour we had booked, ended up exploring Oxford instead. Then on the 30th we were supposed to head to Paris, but there was flooding on the line, total chaos at St. Pancras. Couldn't book another train until the 1st (the whole point was to spend NYE in Paris) so we booked a stupid expensive one way flight to Paris on the 31st...but we survived and have the stories to tell of it.
4.) Food in both cities was fantastic, gotta give it to Paris though. It felt like it didn't matter where we ate, the food was amazing everywhere. Same goes for shopping, didn't do much in general but looking around some of the shops in both cities was really fun. The 45rpm shop in Paris was so well merchandised, everyone at Son Of A Stag was super friendly.
5.) Love having accessible public transit no matter where you go. The London Underground was top notch. I enjoyed walking and getting around without a car, we averaged about 20k steps a day, the Limmer Lightweights didn't skip a beat. But by the end of the trip my feet were exhausted.
6.) We love visiting old cities so the history that was everywhere was very enjoyable. And just the sense of history and culture everywhere was refreshing. Everything in Austin feels so new and fresh, so it was nice being in a place where there was some real history.
7.) I love English pub culture and French dining culture. Take your time, enjoy it with the people that you're with and don't rush off like us Americans are always seeming to do.
8.) It was refreshing being in a place like Paris where nearly everyone seems to care about how they're dressed. No workout clothes, yoga pants or joggers in sight (outside of people actually working out). And the Parisians really do love their super chunky black Chelsea boots / side-zips. Made me want to get a pair of black engineer boots.

Next trip I think will be Tokyo, trying to scope flights out already!

Every pub we went to I tried to get something different.  I don't think I captured every one, but here's a few: St. Austell Tribute, Fuller's London Pride, had a few different styles at Battersea Brewery, Nicholson's Pale Ale, loads of Sam Smith and of course many pints of Guinness.
I much prefer these to the IPAs that we seem to love brewing stateside.

Im starting to get pretty tired of IPA’s too.. we’ve had a lifetime of drinking the kind of beers you mentioned above so an IPA over the last 4 or 5 years have made a welcome change, nowadays I just want my beer to taste like beer again rather than some slightly grapefruity, cloudy IPA.. saying that, I had 3 pints of coconut porter from the Acorn Brewery in the pub a few weeks ago.. it was glorious!

@Broark My heart skipped a few beats when I read you were stranded in Reading. Thankful to see you made it to Oxford. Nothing wrong with Reading per se, but wouldn’t put it on the list of places for someone crossing the pond to visit! 

Fully agree we’ve made an art out of daytime drinking. 

Glad you and Mrs Broark had a great time. If you’re back outside of Xmas it should hopefully be easier for a Sufu meet-up
