setterman 912,216 Posted February 19, 2017 My girlfriend's father passed away Friday night, and we've been going through old photos of him for a remembrance at the funeral. Found this one, and I can't think of any better description for it than "iconic". I wonder how much thought was put into it when it was taken. I remeber him telling me about buying a new pair of Lee jeans after returning home from Japan in the late 40s, I assume that's what he's wearing.

setterman 912,216 Posted February 19, 2017 Thanks for the wishes guys. We were with him as he went, and as peaceful as it was, it's not an experience I want to go through again any time soon. We were digging around looking for a picture I'd seen before, that musta been from the same trip, when we found this one. As soon as I saw this one, I said don't worry about finding the other one. I think this one is fantastic.

Nobody is making Levi's repros at anywhere near the scale Levi's was in the 50's and 60's, and it's honestly pretty remarkable that some of the Japanese companies do it for the prices they do, at the level they do. Don't mean to bring up a dead thread of this discussion but I have to add in that I've also wondered for a long time how Japanese brands are able to make their garments at such high quality and relatively low price. Also, to find a good denim factory is very difficult.
cusswords 1,122 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) File this under iconic photos that happen to include denim. I was on instagram the other day and saw some published and unpublished photos from a LIFE magazine story on the aftermath of the Watts Riots in California. These photos are from 1966 and include some fits so clean the Japanese would be envious. Edited February 23, 2017 by cusswords
Cucoo 4,630 Posted March 25, 2017 File this under "aren't we glad jeans that tight aren't a thing any more"? ^^ Just stumbled over this shot of Deep Purple. judging by how fucking young Ian Gillan looks this must've been 1969 / early 1970... even "old man" Jon Lord rocking the ball busters. Oh and props to Ian Paice for that sawtooth shirt.
aho 675,972 Posted March 25, 2017 ^I'd venture to say that level of tightness was popular as recent as a year or two ago, so we aren't THAT far removed ;D
kicks79 23,299 Posted March 25, 2017 yeah in some circles tight denim never really went away.

501XX4EVER 2,214 Posted July 24, 2018 We all know that the debate has raged on for so many years now that we've lost count but I think that finally there is an end in sight to all the sleepless nights and there is at long last definitive proof... Marlon Brando's jeans in the Wild One were tailored, check out the left cuff... Picture courtesy of RivetHead.com.
YossarianRaw 146 Posted July 29, 2018 Yeah, that movie^ is the reason I ended up getting a type 2 jacket. Incredible style in a pretty unsettling movie.
501XX4EVER 2,214 Posted August 21, 2018 Not photo's per say, but some very nice footage of Mick Jagger's Type 1 from the '72 Tour... The Rolling Stones - Bitch (Live) - Official I don't think it's L.V.C. He also rocked a very nice Denim Shirt on that tour, I guess the Type 1 needed a wash every now and then. 501XX4EVER 2,214 Posted September 7, 2018 Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present your new Double Denim inspiration, Mr Ettore DeGrazia With Diego Rivera, I thought that the jacket was a Levi's Type 1, but as it has a second pocket on the right, ???. The buttons seem to suggest a WW 2 era garment.
