Here are my three most worn hats.

Salomon mountains is most often worn trail running, but occasionally around.

The red Fox’s Market hat has a sentimental story. My grandfather worked at that business in Middletown, Pennsylvania, where my dad grew up. The market has since been purchased and is now called something else. He died in 1986, and gave this hat to me sometime before then. I don’t really remember much of him because I was so young when he passed, but it’s nice to think of him and my grandmother when I wear it.

And last, Ouray Ultras. Earned at the 2018 Ouray 100 mile ultramarathon. Earned as in you get the hat just from signing up, but I finished the race, placing 14th in just under 46 hours. I wear it with pride frequently in real life, for trail running, hiking, adventuring, and so on.

I’ll go next. It’s getting quite chilly here so this is my winter head wear.

Vintage wool one on top.

Left hand side are a The Hill-side wool lined cap in Japanese selvedge denim (fancy), NYC Hat co in cotton and last another vintage wool one. On the right there’s a uniqlo heattech one and than an Inis meáin one in merino and cashmere (luxurious).

@mpukas thanks for setting up this thread... much appreciated... it was on my to-do list but fell off...

I wear a hat all year round - winter for warmth, summer to guard against UV...

Below is the L'Aronde (the dove) hat made by The Well Dressed Head.  Keith is The Well Dressed Head, based in Australia, specialising in early 20th century hat reproductions.  He's got a shop on Etsy with some superb vintage hats and super materials - definitely worth a squiz.  All hats are hand made, mostly to order, and consequently priced accordingly.  I only have the one but the quality is top notch and worth it..

Not for everyone for sure but it's a favourite of mine.

Details as follows

  • 1920s-pattern French casquette flat cap in vintage multi-toned wool tweed
  • Liner is built from vintage heavyweight cotton
  • Sweatband is Australian leather. A hand-tied 1920s French ribbon finishes off the sweatband.
  • Full leather reinforced visor
  • The crown features a NOS (new old stock) vintage United Carr snap from the early 1940s.
  • It came with a "Cap Keeper" i.e. a custom shaped pillow that lives inside the cap when not being worn to keep it’s shape

Given it comes out in colder weather, I tend to wear it with the Hillside twill scarf.

My favorite hat is a simple navy watch cap I bought ~20 years ago in Seattle's Pacific Place, in a store that doesn't exist anymore and was kinda halfway between Abercrombie and a surplus store. The label says:

CAP, KNIT, WATCH - (100% WOOL) - DLA 100-85-6-0711 - 8405-01-006-1074

It looks like it still has many more years of life inside of it...

i love hats but they don't always love me.

my favourite cap out of several dozen i own is either a '47 brand red sox (the sox logo, not the 'b') or my kapital old man and the sea. unfortunately i have a massive head so regularly need to use a hat stretcher, although even then sometimes it isn't enough.

watch caps, beanies etc are often tricky for me too as material is often an issue as opposed to size. 100% wool is too irritable on my forehead and scalp due to my eczema. i own a buzz one in 100% worsted wool which is completely unwearable, although a 60/40 armorlux and a wtaps in 'coolmax' are tolerable. acrylic is the best on my skin but most of the aforementioned labels avoid it for obvious reasons (lesser heat retention etc).

i wear a buzz or TCB daisy mae on super hot days here to protect my ears and neck. i want something with a wider brim, though. any suggestions?

Here's one of my hats that gets a lot of wear during the hot, mid summer months. Straw hat, made in MX by some brand based in Austin, TX. About $30 at a mountain chic shop. I really like the shape of the crown, as it's round and therefore unpretentious. The wide brim is obviously great in high sun. Strange thing is this hat didn't have any vent holes in it, and wearing it even in cool temps was like having a sauna on my head. I've since added venting grommets and it's made a huge improvement.

My Only Denim Headwear.
Handmade by the now (sadly) defunct Circle A Brand.
Cone mills, single needle with a nice twill liner and taped seams.

Shrank a little and crinkled with a soak and has crocked further as it's been wet a couple of times in the rain.

Been wearing this rope dyed Samurai beanie off and on for about 3.5 years.

Started off quite dark and I think I’ve tossed it in the wash and dry 4 times.

Im absolute Dog doo at taking pictures but this thing glimmers indigo under direct light.

HW Dog and co came in.  With a catalog as well.  The only thing I’m not a fan of is them stapling their call card to their hats that you can either remove or keep on your hat (I removed mine).

UPDATE:  This is by far the most comfortable SnapBack hat I’ve worn this far.  I’ve always been curious about MiJ SnapBack caps while the prices have been a factor.  And the quality is very good.  I can see myself wearing this in the shower it’s that comfortable.

Just now, Duke Mantee said:

I’ve well over a dozen Bootleggers/FW hats and caps, a couple Canoe Clubs from Papa Nui and a couple of Bakerboys from Lock Hatters but this one has been worn most over the winter ...

I have a Buzz midway wool watch cap that is getting dirty as hell and has the same white stenciling style like yours.  How do you wash it without taking off the stencil?

Recent hat is of course the HW Dog.  Most of these I’ve collected over the years and no longer wear them, specifically the FUCT hats.  All MIJ/USA made.  I have a eccentric hat taste.A25F2099-EC43-4BFE-917B-EC726ACD303A.thumb.jpeg.04ecb28463e6aa8f6152e13efd5ea033.jpeg
