Ande Whall Denim

i looked at them too but the measurements just don't compute to me in general.

the thigh is really under 10 inches? that can't be right! especially if the waist is closer to a 32 in real sizes?

also, it looks like it's his slimmest cut anyways, so even if they fit i'd pass - but good looking out!

I never knew he got into art, and I loved to see that he did.

It makes it even worse that he took his own life. People never talk about that shit that way when it happens but having personally known three people in recent years who have done it I think it’s pretty dangerous to ignore that fact. I wish he’d gotten the help he needed, he clearly still had a lot to give and a lot of people to reach with his work.

RIP to a true creative soul.

Damn.. Im heading to chch next week and was going to see if he wanted to catch up for a beer :( been a couple of years since ive been down that way and im shit at staying in touch with people.

Sad as, scrolling back through old messages, last one was me randomly checking in on him to see if he was ok just over a year ago.

The guy he presented on line was pretty true to him IRL. He was a chill bogan that was always with his mates drinking and smoking and having good chats. Last time I saw him he was wearing fugly cargo shorts and the rest of us were wearing his jeans, he was stoked as to see so many pairs in one place all with decent wear on them. It was the middle of summer and he ended up going on a bender and having a violent hangover. Rest in bogan peace.

Solid black Buffalos. I’ve had these since 2016 but wore them sparingly as I kept them for slightly smarter wear. More recently I’ve started wearing them regularly to the point where they need a crotch repair. They’re a bit darker and less grey in real life than my iPhone photos show. You can also see how Ande’s lockstitch hemming technique enables strong roping.

Long time no post...

So on the topic of those Ukrainian Ande's on eBay, like everybody else i suspected the seller's measurements were off and did my own calculations. I took a (semi) drunken punt and low balled an offer which was accepted. I can happily report the inseam is a 30" not a 26", and as such fit me perfectly. The jeans themselves i'd say have probably only seen a months wear perhaps? Not even that....The only thing the seller neglected to mention was that this was the rainbow nep edition that Ande did, but it's fairly subtle & i actually kind of like it. Feels like a 13oz.

Pretty stoked with them to be honest...

Thanks @Geeman It's definitely been a while between posts..

I haven't really worn much denim for a while, mostly because of where i live which is sub tropical (i'm not in Sydney anymore), but it's starting to get cooler here so i dug my Grizzly jacket out recently and have been giving it some wear - which then led to going on an Ande themed memory lane trip and discovering those Cobra's on eBay. I've still got a pair of Cobra's from Ande's farewell run which have had very sporadic wear. I just need somebody to part with a Wolf jacket now...

A quick google and i found this:

Those look right. That’s his old style tag, pocket bags, and the denim looks correct too. Very similar to what I had back in 06-07

They are early. Like before he had selvedge denim and before he was doing any kind of back pocket stitch. By 2008 he had changed things and his stuff was more refined.

Really sad to read about the passing of Ande. I remember looking at his jeans and the fits here such a long time ago. Never bought a pair because of the price, but the pocket details were always so beautiful looking. Funny enough I moved from US to NZ a few years ago, I swing by thrift stores from time to time and there's a fun shop here that pulls items from the trash and resells. Recently found a pair of beautiful black faded Ande jeans which I've given to a friend.

Wow, nice find! Very sad to hear the news of Ande. When I first got into the denim scene, I almost pulled the trigger on his Wolf jacket, agonized over that decision for months and ended up going with Flat Head type II for my first denim jacket. I still love that jacket dearly but wish I had gotten a Wolf. Such a cool design.
