I came across this last weekend. Mingus was my entry point to jazz and Coletrane's "Live at the Village Vanguard" with Eric Dolphy changed my entire conception of what jazz could be. Dolphy and Mingus together, live and in color is transcendent.

My boy stumbled upon the rah band, thru algorithm ways, this time a good thing.

never heard the name of the band, but did know the music. Nice and mellow, funky but not to smooth

Crazy how the algorithm works.. i like how it's rejuvenating interest in forgotten bands.. this album cover popped up a couple of months ago.. i clicked on it just because it was a dope af album cover

..and so did millions of others.. next thing this Japanese band from the 90s who disbanded after the release of their first album (which only sold a few 1000 copies) have 2million + views and a legion of worldwide fans.. the female singer married the guy who took the photo and all but disappeared.

I was at this concert back in the spring. It was a cold, windy night sat freezing in the cemetery, but well worth it. The monastic vocals that swell are also being produced live by Colin with a microphone taped to his throat he produces those vocals while playing the saxophone. It's pretty unreal.

Excellent Duke. As an electro-dance style track, I always preferred this (12” version) to Blue Monday

Nice isn't it, sounds a bit like Souls of Mischeif.

It went under the radar.. i only found it through searching the sample from Artifacts 'wrong side of the tracks' ..

geopolitical context: in the 60s indonesia's president sukarno apart from organizing the asia-africa conference and forming the non-aligned movement, withdrawing indo from the un because it did not reflect the new constellation of the world (decolonization, asian and african countries declaring independence from western colonial powers post ww2). creating his own olympics (games of new emerging forces – i still slow jog around the stadium he built for this), also banned the beatles, the rolling stones and other western "ngak-ngik-ngok" (onomatopoeic but also means whinge-whinge-whinge) pop/rock music and tried to create native indo pop music which he called "lenso" (ironically a loanword from the portuguese (also colonized indonesia in the 16th century) meaning a handkerchief but also denotes a popular dance)

@Jared_Lee haha wow - I spent a chunk of my youth collecting reggae vinyl and attending reggae dance's, inspired very much by a close friend's older brother who was a reggae DJ (eventually I and my closer friends all got into DJing - such a wonderful time).

Anyway - these 3 were obviously some of our favourites (notwithstanding the questionable politics/views) - seems like Capleton still has it very much locked down, not so sure about Sizzla or Barrington though! Thanks for sharing, you've encouraged a huge wave of nostalgia!
