They're printing fades now. I appreciate the concept and think it's real clever, but I also think it's silly at the same time.

Edit: this is also probably suitable for the ugliest jeans thread lol

He ran a kickstarter that was successful, however he didn’t allow for the tax due on the revenue generated. As a result many peoples orders went unfulfilled, including mine.
He then had some health issues and shut the brand down.

I have always wondered what happens with successful but unfulfilled Kickstarter, but do you get your money back?

here's some fades printed in a more Margiela way (a random uni students work)

image.png.5974b61de6d78bdc2673b3a6b674bc4b.png

Way back when The DD+1 Evisu touring jeans thing happened, Evisu took the pair the 13 of us had worn and reproduced our fades for a limited release. Funnily enough we all opted for a raw pair.

Woke up this morning trying to remember who the 13 were, got stuck after 9 people. Going to search it now. Gotta love a procrastinating trip down memory lane

Also on the crowd funding thing.. I put money into a Chuck Palahniuk - Choke, movie crowd funding, got a t shirt hat, signed book, and some other stuff, but looks like the movie is never going to happen. Sad as I had put my late cats name to go in the credits and that would have been great to see. Her name was Sausage.

edit: popped up on my bookface memories this morning, Sausage in the top right with my Choke pledge merchandise in amongst the other pledgers

nope. I've contributed to probably 5-6 kickstarters over the years esp right when kickstarter was really getting going....all of them got funded many times over the initial goal and I think only 2 of them were fulfilled....

one was for an album that actually got made and the other was a board game that got very delayed but at least delivered....the unfulfilled ones were a some kind of physical product where 2 years after funding, the founder sent an email out that it was never going to be made and that we could file a dispute with our CC company, another was a cafe that actually opened up and is still open but many people never got their coffee orders nor do they ever respond to questions about it....I also contributed to some musical projects where nothing came of it and the musicians just went on making other music. After the last ones where the updates stopped, I stopped contributing to any unless they were for someone I knew.

No, not at all.
My money was collected and spent but no products were delivered (to me).
To add extra woe & cost, I was also charged international shipping too.

Very nice! What all did you use for the bowl? Looks like some oak, maple and cherry, but I could be way off. The green is nice too.

Thanks.. the green is poplar / tulipwood, when i buy it, in rough sawn planks it's mainly a sandy colour with veins of green and to a lesser extent purple running through so i cut those 'character' bits out and save them for something special.. the other woods are mahogany, american white oak and ash, there is a construction post somewhere on the forum? .. but i can't find it

Thought that might be poplar. Very underrated wood imo, has some really unique colors, is easy to machine, and is pretty damn cheap too. Needed some hardwood for a guitar amp and speaker cabinet i built and settled on poplar since it was when lumber was ridiculously expensive. Was very pleased with how it turned out.

It's a 'poor-mans' mahogany.. inasmuch as, there was an embargo put on mahogany in (i think) 2001 to stop illegal logging in SA.. after this time the timber merchants were looking for a replacement with similar characteristics / availability, eventually settling on poplar, i do have shit-loads of 20+ yr old mahogany in stock but i can't provide it as a material without documentation to prove it came from plantation sources..

I like poplar too.. it's a little less stable than mahogany and a little more prone to movement but it doesn't turn your hands purple when you're working with it... When we went to Brazil.. years ago, all the cheap hotel rooms are entirely furnished with mahogany, solid mahogany bed, wardrobes, doors, even the walls were clad with is, it was just the cheapest most abundant material :D

When i got up for work this morning there was a hand written note from my kid on the kitchen side

"Hi Dad, We're making pasta.. mum knows" :D

At some point in the night, my kid and whichever friends were staying over decided to make some pasta, the kitchen was an absolute bombsite, sink pilled high with pots and pans, some of the ingredients they've used (mince and such) we didn't have so they must have been to the shop at 12.30am.. there was half an onion on top of a kilner jar of flour.. chopped face down, olives on the floor, remnants of roughly chopped garlic on the chopping board and a tin of kidney beans they'd opened and not used? .. they'd used 4 pans to make a sauce ... it was total chaos, i just left it and went to work..

Bad experience with Marrkt today.

Pair of Real Mccoys jeans popped up on the site this week, I know their jeans get slated here but it's an itch from years back so I thought why not.

Marrkt had them listed as very good condition and one product image showed a heavy crease and bit of fading to the rear of one leg. I reached out via live chat to see how bad the fading was (the jeans are still really dark, with no visible wear). They were helpful and actually went to physically check the pair for me.

Came back and said crease will iron out and there's was a bit of fading that would be unnoticeable with a bit of wear.....

They arrived today and basically the jeans are f**ked. The crease on the back of the leg is @ 8 inches long and has significant fading the entire length of the crease. Both legs, inseam and outseam have sharp creasing  and pretty heavy fading running from waistband/crotch to hem. Looks like they have been soaked and then folded wet and left like that.

Pretty pissed off with their product description and having to pay shipping and returns!

To be fair.. pasta doesn’t look bad, they’ve got a can of Poretti too.. goodness knows where that came from?..

This was before the heavily expletive laden txt messages when she got up and saw the kitchen :D

Not that you asked, but here's the amp I was talking about. Took a stain pretty nicely imo.

My gut says fck that to high heavens, even if that’s not so rational. Can’t see how quality won’t get lower and prices won’t get higher over time. That’s a real shame. Even if it stays the same, I’d hate for another dollar of mine to make it into their accounts. It’s the thing I dislike most about my birks!

oh yeah I forgot that Birkenstock was owned by them. sucks. I'm probably close to needing to get a new pair after years of wearing my last pair. I'll have to look at alternatives.

Agreed, not seeing that as good news.  LMVH has shareholders to satisfy and profit will be king to them.  It's hard to see how Kapital's innovative designs and products won't be impacted and the costs rise (they were pretty top end anyway).

I see Superfuture got a shout out in the highsnobiety article!

There was some coffee banter recently... but I can't find it... it reminded me that there was some coffee chit chat on the Nice Things thread from here for a few pages

I'm a bit of a coffee nerd. I brew mostly with a Hario V60 but sometimes Chemex, using a Fellow Stagg kettle and a 1ZPresso K-Max grinder. It's a pretty simple setup, but gets tasty results without much effort. Thank goodness I've never been particularly into espresso.

My go-to roasters here on the east coast US are George Howell (Boston) and Black And White (North Carolina.) Currently drinking Howell's Dota, a Costa Rican light roast I've gone back to over and over. I tend to prefer washed or natural process coffees with some combination of chocolatey, berry, or wine flavor notes. I'm not a big fan of the various wacky and weird anaerobic process flavors that are in vogue for the last few years, to me this is like the coffee equivalent of 25 oz hyper-slub rainbow weft gimmick denim.

Not a coffee nerd but my brother is and after I expressed a tiny bit of interest in fancy coffee he went and bought me an aeropress for Christmas so now I gotta learn how to use this thing lol. Afraid I might become one of you guys.
