Shoes that look better with age...

When I think of Clark's Desert Boots I always think of SuFu user critic, who had a pretty good looking pair way earlier in this thread (which I can't quote for some annoying reason, I guess the web app doesn't let me do that for posts earlier than whatever date.) The way he was wearing those was pretty typical of the look at the time in the late-2000s, with very slim fitting clothes in keeping with the general hipster aesthetic. Though I have to think the style would look better with a more 40s or 50s style cut.

@Cold Summer that is a nice pair of desert boots you're right!!

That far back in sufu is somewhere I've only very rarely ventured - what a seemingly odd time - I wonder what people will think looking back at us now in 15 years time!

That was around the time I started reading the forum, so the occasional post or picture from back then has stuck with me. My style at the time was pretty much in line with the everything-really-skinny look and I didn't really start to move away from that until 2018 or so.

Follow them on the gram and twice a year they do a deadstock/sample sale and you can usually pick them up for an even better price

My initial thoughts when i clicked on that^^ link was that was beatle

I suppose.. that's the thing with forums.. it only takes a handfull of prolific posters to shift the entire look of the herd.

I'm not sure i'd even describe that^ look as 'general hipster' i'd describe it as 'sufu 2010'.. it was a very particular aesthetic.. i never saw anyone in the wild dressing the sufu way back then.. we had plenty of hipsters who wore skinny-ass jeans but it was a world away from the 2010 sufu uniform.

The aesthetic here has obviously changed over the years.. it's down to the contributors rather than fashion influence.. all it takes is a few of the regulars to start wearing something different and within 12mths we will all be wearing the same shit.. in the world of the normies, we're individuals but in the microcasm of sufu.. wees just sheep :D

In 2012 when we were all on shore leave the Mister Freedom thread got bumped by the minute.. it hasn't been bumped in over a year.. all it would take is a couple of enthusiastic posters and the CPO shirts will be back up to a thousand quid!

All good points @Double 0 Soul, at the time I had just discovered raw denim (around late 2009) and wearing Nudie Thin Finns, after having spent the previous 5-6 years buying most of my clothes from places like Urban Outfitters because I just didn't know any better 😅 It's hard to know much about style when you've spent your adolescence in the north Georgia suburbs and everybody is wearing distressed bootcut jeans from Abercrombie or Hollister or whatever, it's a shame I didn't yet know friend/partner-in-crime/fellow local denim nerd @xchen  back then as he would have surely set me straight. In that context, being the only guy I knew wearing skinny jeans made me feel much cooler than everyone else, though in retrospect I was certainly a bit full of myself. I really got started on the now-pretty-much-dead MyNudies forum from 2009-2011, SuFu was very intimidating back then. The bar of entry to denim nerdery is a lot lower than it was 15 years ago, with lots of affordable Japanese options in all kinds of fits.

From what I've seen of 2000s Sufu (long after the fact), I really like the sort of streetwear inspired looks where somebody would wear a cool graphic tee with Sugar Cane Okinawas and Nike Air Force Ones and that sort of thing. I still think that looks good and it's aged a lot better to me than the skinny fit urban lumberjack look of hipster yore.

If you'd been wandering around a desert of distressed bootcuts and found the oasis of sufu in 2010 there is no doubt that you were the coolest kid in the Georgia burbs .. don't be ashamed of that superiority complex!

I was never down with the sufu fits back then but this place was still without a doubt the pinnacle of the denim world..

The sun shining onto my boots prompted me to sprawl and contort on the floor to take a few pics.  One of the perks of remote work.

These are almost five years old and just had their semi-annual waxing and polishing (with regular but less involved brushings in between)

My humble western work boots.

Not as sleek as my cowboy boots, not quite as clunky as a engineer boot.

The fancier footwear gets all the love but these are the real MVPS.

These are my rainy/snowy/slushy/wet floor at work/ beaters and they are pretty bulletproof.

Thick hard wearing rubber Vibram-esq sole, good grip but great support, and a pretty unremarkable workhorse leather that's starting to patina. Amd maybe the longest wearing heels I've had on boots.

They shine up ok but look better dull and dirty.

Sedona brand? Made in Mexico.

As a bonus, the simple retro rope pattern and shape reminded me of CLINCH,  it also gives them vintage vibes.

And another pair of vintage boots.

Vintage Cole Haan Country boots.

These were a gift from friends. They were cleaning out their father's wardrobe and knew I would appreciate these.

Very well made, solid construction.

Not quite a cowboy boot but very western.  Low underslung heels but no decorative stitching or toe bug, heavy leather but very polished. Slim and elegant like a Chelsea boot.

First pair of denim are Mister Freedom Californian Outlaw in deadstock Cone Mills White Oak selvedge.

Second pair are a cheap pair of wide leg jeans from h&m.

Ever since watching To Live and Die in LA a few weeks ago and traveling to New Orleans, my interest in cowboy boots was piqued. I ended up finding a pair of 1984 Lucchese San Antonio’s in black Cherry (miraculously in my size - 13B) and in good condition for a good price. The color is most accurate in the outdoor pics

^ Now you’ve just got to get some longer jeans

It's the curse of having long legs. I need 34 - 35" inseam for a full stacking effect. The Denime in the last photo has like a 33-33.5" inseam. The boots did reignite my curiosity in the SC M41027 Leepro though

They really always put out the best samplers & mixtapes

The “Stones Throw 101” double feature from ca. 2004 (maybe emceed by Peanut Butter Wolf??) in particular has been a long-time favorite; some of the Madlib mixes on there are head & shoulders above the official album versions…plus my home town gets a little shout out
