Thanks, Roco and Ran. Yes, forgot the deck jacket. Agreed, it is awesome. Fairly waterproof too. The vans are the cheapest I could find - ¥3800 from ABC Mart in Ueno. My espadrilles got sodden and I needed a quick fix.
