No, I’m in there alright. We asked some dowdy old Scottish fella in a hat and a pair of fake-looking Levi’s to do the honours!

Good times Martin, I recall you complaining your 3/4 length skinnies were chaffing you something rotten though

I think chaffing in the trouser department is key to achieving the look :D

Sad news today, sexy Levi's model Nick Kamen has died

Rest in peace Nick

Those guys have obviously spent a hellava lot of time and effort on their physique but they seem to have only worked their upper body, neglecting their pencil thin legs and the super slimmed down trooz just emphasize how out of proportion they are (maybe this is the point which i'm missing) i'm sure with all that testosterone they're fiercely hetrosexual but paradoxically i've never met a woman in my life who would be attracted by such a fine specimen, i think secretly they just do it to impress their gym buddies... shush! don't tell anyone.

I'll try and get a photo of the popped polo/stretch denim shorts/mirrored sunglasses crew.. if ive got a black eye in waywt next week, you know what's happened :)

Hahahahaha loved it... that was just before Geeman did 10 press-ups, whilst singing that shanty solo, whilst Mr Maynard was sitting on his back drinking a shandy!!  Happy days...

Heads up to anyone else who’s been relying on on a JP proxy the past year - EMS just announced they’ll be resuming service to the US as of June 1st :)

Thanks Martin, ive already read it, the lady in the article (Helen) is best buds with the concrete painting friend of mine, they've been going on urban walks together during lockdown, getting inspiration for their poetry and artwork.

This is a good albeit Sheff-centric blog (updated massively during lockdown) by copywriter and all round creative chap Damon Fairclough

I particularly liked Catherine Cookson and a Pigs Head

Current prices in the denim world seem to be going fucking nuts! from that £250 Freewheelers sweat to £350 LVC, I'm not saying these garments are not worth it, only you/we can judge 'worth' based on your/our own twisted rationale but i'm still living in a world of yesteryear where i consider £100 for a damn good sweatshirt about the going rate and it's just not.

Prices are def caused my denim enthusiasm to wane..
I know our interest goes through peaks and troughs over the years but my interest in denim is probably at it's all time lowest ebb, i'm only reading a few threads on sufu and most of those are not even denim related, i dropped into the FW's thread recently for the first time in months (i just don't see the point in looking at stuffs i'm not going to buy) and even Aero's £350 LVC is just infos ive gleaned from the 'posts' column

I purposely haven't even read the recent vintage chat which a few years ago i would have eagerly lapped up, i'm just not seeing the point in filling my head up with shit from a world i will only partake in as a voyeur, I can recite vintage Levi's chapter and verse to friends and neighbours but if they ask "how many pairs of vintage Levi's do you own? Non! what a fucking looser! i'm like one of those Ferrari polo shirt-wearing, clipboard-wielding vintage car enthusiasts who knows every nut and bolt but owns a Ford Mondeo with a 'My Other Car's an Aston Martin' bumper sticker. :D:ph34r:

Oh well, maybe it will peak again when Boris 'levels us up' I'll not hold my breath for that...

Does that mean you no longer have an interest in brutalist architecture because you live in a Victorian house?

Well said 00, I have been feeling similarly to you lately. Maybe not quite as pessimistic, but I’m getting there. :D
Roy bowing out was a big blow to my interest, I enjoy reading about the things others enjoy and justify purchasing but the search has grown a little stale for me lately and some of that is driving by pricing.
Thankfully Warehouse seems to still be “reasonable” (at least in our line of thinking), I’ve had a growing interest in FW lately as I find their shirts fit me perfectly. I also sold off a majority of shirts that I owned from brands that I’m no longer interested in, so there’s room to make adds.
But everything outside of those brands and OAs offerings just don’t do much for me these days.

I have a passing interest in brutalist architecture and red brick, i also have a passing interest in vintage road bikes, disco, BMX, graffiti, camping, vintage pumps, exploring derelict buildings, fishing, mid century furniture, old hand tools, old VW's, cats, animation, warp records and films but i don't fill my every waking moment with them like i once did with denim.

@Double 0 Soul

Think all denimheads go through that train of thought now and again, at least us long term-er's.  The amount of times l've said, "what's the point" to myself (insert any reason here) and then the  next minute diving into yet another (perhaps) pointless denim rabbit hole (usually archival) to what end.(?)

After my split from my ex-wife a good friend, who was watching me sobbing my heart out for the umpteenth time, said to me "Life is just a series of peaks and troughs mate", one minute your soaring up, out on top enjoying life, next minute you're slipping down to the bottom, consumed by despair".  It may be a little bi-polar but hopefully you'll come back to us ...

Hopefully Chaz, but i do think it's starting to become another passing interest. I used to enjoy the research/thrill of the chase but i'm also trying my best to make the move onto Tor browser, which is fucking shite for research compared to firefox or broogle but at least they're not raping my every click.

I still enjoy the forum tho, so nowt's changed there.

Good to hear. We all move in and out of circles throughout our lives, but for me the core interests keep returning (l wont go into them) and on the forum it's the people, and their opinions/banter which keep it going (hey look at db now).

My advice: Don't walk towards the light just yet.

I agree with much of what you say Neal - prices are spiralling upward and getting more unaffordable (or have less worth). From my perspective FW prices, on new models, have taken a noticeable jump (although that sweat is actually 2 sweats and probably not so representative but still not exactly cheap) and are becoming less attractive to me. Even reissues of older models are creeping up.

Long gone are the halcyon days of great exchange rates and buying a pair of 1951s for £130 and a Neal shirt for £75 ... and getting them shipped over for £15. The same package would now be £300 shipped.

But I think it’s just not about the money, I guess there’s only some many pairs of jeans you need or can wear. Sometimes I look at my collection and genuinely wonder how I got to this point ... and why.

Despite my interest in FW diminishing, what keeps things fresh for me is seeing what others are doing and wearing, and every day remains a school day (guarantee tickets being a recent, ongoing, lesson).

I’m just going to buy a shitload less and read a shitload more ...

I'm not just bemoaning the denim world per se..

..as a single income household denim goodies are one of my few luxury items and (as you say) the ecconomy has turned to shit recently..  everyone has put their prices up (or so it seems) for instance even fucking cheapo mozzarella which used to be 49p at Tesco is now £1.19, my gas and electric bill went up by 30% because we were all at home during lockdown... ect...endless moaning...(0.3% on my linked savings account ffs!) denim goodies are just something amongst almost every other thing which has increased in price and it's no bother to shoulder the increase if you're in one of those sectors who's pay has risen accordingly but incomes have stagnated for years in the north so if i'm having to pay more for necessities it's leaving less disposible for luxuries and when the cost of luxuries outstrip the cost of necessities something just gotta give..

@Duke Mantee What a superb collection you have... and I too have often wondered about this too (about yours, not my limited stuff)... I'd be interested to hear what you concluded about how and why

Or he could do what us southern skinflints do, build your own out of old  pallets (not just to save money and resources but also cos it's better quality) and will give you something to 'get into' ;).

Thank you

I’m not sure I have a conclusion, I’m not even sure I have a clear reason why I started. I’ve always been interested in clothes, been wearing them all my life ... Ba Dum Tsh ... but the Japanese denim thing came from the Japanese designer thing I guess. I sampled loads - Warehouse, Sugar Cane, SDA, RMC; it’s been a big list but for me FW just stuck out from that crowd and in the process of getting some bits I started to get to know some of the folk (retailers, factory guys et al) and it just became a way of life.

The culture of FW is important to me - what the designs represent, what are the influences, the fabrics, the methods of construction - when you talk about these things every day, and wear the things you talk about, it becomes more than just buying a new shirt.

The quantity was never planned, but there’s a logic of sorts in that I’ve got most patterns and/or fabrics so in a small way I have knowledge and representation of the entire catalogue.

That last part might also be one of the reasons why I have less desire to keep going ...
