Denim Blunders, Reflections and General Nonsense.

Covering a few blunders from the above that I mentioned.
Maine Mountain Moccasin: Started off originally as "New England Outerwear Co.", the brand focused on making traditional moccasin constructions boots and shoes. They eventually changed their name to be more clearly defined (I don't think they ever actually made outerwear, so funny choice to name your brand). I think things started off fine until they began offering MTO production without properly defining the expectations to their customers. People were paying 100% up front and then going months without any form of communication from the brand and a lot of people just thought their money was gone. After a few years of tomfoolery the brand eventually folded. No idea if everyone ever got their boots or not, personally I have a pair (they were RTW, never dealt with their MTO shenanigans) and they're really nice. Wish there was a brand around like this to fill the niche. Quoddy / Rancourt doesn't really do it for me, Russell and Yuketen have gone off the deep end with price increases.

I promise to eventually go into detail on the Jack/Knife stuff, got a bunch of info from a very trusted source years ago but never did anything with it...but I'm off to work now. I'll track it down and see what I can post.

My buddy from Chicago remarked recently that he saw someone wearing a jacket that read 'Moose Knuckles' and was wondering if he had misread or it was some kind of joke... unfortunately they're quite common in Canada and to their ideal customer it's not a joke.

I've made a couple submissions that got posted for fade Friday. Last was like a year ago at this point though. Now that you mention it I haven't seen them show up on my ig.

I think Heddels is dying. It's never been the best of reads/sources of info but I did like their 5 plus 1 articles

Of which I haven't seen one in months

I must admit the first time I went there I was far from impressed with the attitude from the staff.

However , they have redeemed themselves since! Rudys a genuinely nice personas as is Linda, not to mention @Mr Black banging out top notch hem jobs.

I had some QC issues with a pair of paraboot I got from there and they couldn't do enough to help get it sorted & Rudy hemmed a pair of warehouse for me while we sat and chatted and put the world to right...

It's Eye wateringly expensive but run by good people.

I'm not there any more so can be completely independent 🤩

Rudy will always bend over backward to help if there's a problem. He's terrified of negative reviews which really can do a lot of damage.

Prices- yeah a bit steep when we all know we can get hold of it for a fraction of the cosy.

Remember that Chinese mill-repro forum i found?.. they'd copy/pasted photos of us wearing N1s, M65s, A2s.. and so on.. they were discussing each of our waywt pics :D

and that one was always a favourite.. the muscle-man forum, they were all fkin massive with testosterone and HGH.. one of them had stumbled on this place.. they were all laughing at our denim-absurdities, with avatars akin to grindr profiles

I've thought a few times that this ought to be a private forum accessible only behind a login.

The search function is next to useless and the site doesn't appear particularly well indexed ...
... try  "site:supertalk.superfuture.com/topic of your choice +search term" in google to see what I mean, so may as well be afforded the privacy of content obscured from search engines and behind a log-in.

Haven’t been to SOAS in years - not since Scott and Oli moved to Clutch - which is a far nicer experience to me.

last time i went to london (2019), soas and clutch offered totally different shopping experiences. soas was basically like a warehouse with racks and racks of stuff; clutch was like a whitebox gallery (there are many actual galleries around it), everything aesthetically mannequined and displayed.

i kinda preferred soas coz i could just lose myself in the piles of shit and hope i might serendipitiously find something that's been recently sold out or that has escaped my online shopping sleuth. at clutch i was afraid to even touch the stuff even though there wasn't any do not touch sign like in a gallery.

prices at both were too rich for my global south blood so i went to r&h where danny recognized me as "oomslokop from sufu" and got my tender canvas pants hemmed for 20 pounds with 3sixteen's shadow (or some such) indigo thread. took only a couple of hours while i hunted for daftmill whisky at berry bros down the road (no luck). they did an excellent job, but the thread hasn't faded since (i thought it was going to).

£30! :faint:

I had a mooch about R&H a couple of years ago, bought some socks ( white  ) and when I asked if they used / would use cotton thread for hemming they replied that they only use poly.

People wax poetic about jeans holding stories and memories and blah blah blah, but you need people in your life to make those memories in the first place :)

The owner of new denim brand ‘Hermit Jeans’ fundamentally disagrees with this.

People said the whiskers on my Hermit jeans  looked artificial...

My hands get covered in crisp dust when I'm sitting at my gaming PC so I wipe them on my lap

Seems the cheesy dust really speeds up the fades

Not sure what the best place to post this is, but I saw this cool video about hunting for vintage clothing in the southeast US. I live in this region and it's always something I've wondered about, so it was fascinating getting a bit of insight into this question.

Long story short, there is probably quite a bit of vintage loot hidden away in closed stores and buildings, but compared to abandoned farm houses in Idaho or California there's a much greater risk of a pissed-off owner or neighbor shooting you for trespassing. On the other hand, I'm only about three hours away from JR's Western World, so, uh, maybe I should take a trip there sometime?!

I'm glad we're not a nation of crazy gun nuts.. i'd have more holes than a colander :D

Over here.. tresspass is a civil case, if you find an abandoned building, it's up to the owner to keep you out, if you break in / damage someone's property, that's a crime, if you climb in through an open door or window, you've done nothing wrong, if the owner doesn't want you in there, it's up to them to keep you out.. If you are taken to court, they're trying to reclaim costs for the damage you caused while breaking in.. no sign of a break in, no case.
