^thanks a lot, ggip and 3rdIcon.

I have seen yours, 3rd, and I must agree they are quite similar at least regarding heel and sole config.

The single leather and half vibram constitutes about the same thickness as mini lug and double leather.

I actually asked Kyle about my "issue" on which he replied:

White’s has recently been applying two thinner midsoles on everything with a commando outsole.

Shit on a stick. I've been called. I have never seen that CBT. That's extraordinary! A rubber half sole that not only resembles the studded Dainite, but Church branded, and to top it off - stitched through. Well yer never too old to learn. It is unusual tho' eh?

- Crat, not exactly, I'll 'borrow' the pic to show. Giz two tics

second that, great find.

really nice Whites denimjunkie; would love to see some pictures with those boots on your feet

I wore my white's yesterday; forget how heavy these are compared to a pair of Alden's but they walk so comfortably

New SDs with specs: 461 last, lowered heel, CXL #8, medallion cap etc etc.

For reference put beside my SDs, SD last, cuban heel, vibram halfsole. burgundy calf.

The single leather sole with vibram halfsole is as thick as double with mini commando.

The 461, mini commando with lowered heel setup doesnt make the shoe tilt back as much as I thought compared to the other more standard setup.

The cxl is so much richer in tone...

LOVE this boot! It's interesting that the toe on the new 461 does not look any more "sprung" in this instance than the SD last -- maybe even less so in one of the pics... Anyway, these really are beautiful boots. I like the heel, and the sole. I had thought I had decided on SJ over SD, but now I am not sure.... Nice.

i didn't see the close-up of your commando mini lugs when i posted my comment.

indeed, the thin layers made the big difference. the bridge between the heel & the half-sole [w/c is usually single-layer] is almost as thick as the front. [this] addition improved the proportions & enhanced the boot's [side] profile.

iirc, i've mentioned it in 1 of threads here or SF, that when i do re-sole, i'm going for commando half-soles installed on Alden Indys w/c are similar, if not exactly the same as yours.

can you post a photo of the bottom sole when you get a chance? tnx in advance.

BH, Natural Chromexcel, 1/4" lowered heel, 430 sole.

I'm really digging these and I'm tempted to get a pair of captoe SDs in Natural CXL to throw in the closet for the day this pair dies (decades from now).

I'm definitely in the market for one of your natural CXL belts to g along with my Trench boot in natural CXL. Any idea when you'll have them available again?

You could try Ed Meier.

I believe you can have them resoled by this guy; from Germany and looks professional

http://www.der-schuster-sibla.de/start.html

if u dont mind shipping them, then I can personally recommend Richard from The Shoehealer in the UK

thanks a lot guys!

gonna contact them now to see what's going on and if they'd even be able to do so!!

and I don't mind to send'em over to the UK at all...as long as the job can get done.

Is it advisable to wear buffalo leather boots in the snow? Is buffalo a hard wearing leather, or does it need lots of love?

Actually, forget it. A little Google research answered this, apologies for being Sunday morning lazy :)

Basically, yeh it's fine, just let them dry and give them a wipe after. Had a hankering to wear my SD's after so many recent pics.

Rapid Blake Vs Goodyear Welt

What are eveyones opinions? The shoe maker I am working with has expressed a preference for rapid blake over goodyear welt, but will switch to goodyear if I request it, some advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you HG, as a post script to my Whites experience I sold them on ebay for a ridiculous price to a Japanese fellow, and was actually given a new pair of SD's in Sienna Buffalo by a good friend in New York.

Will PM you my "shoe story" in a min.

Blake Rapid repair though, being just 'less British*' (!) will likely mean a good specialist. Perhaps don't ask JT and Sons however ;) Though that would probably be much more there forte... !

You know, it's an oft-repeated refrain from my (Venetian) mother that I should, just for once, try wearing something other than English footwear. I think she has visions of me punting a gondola down the canals of Birmingham wearing light tan loafers and a fitted linen jacket...

I did actually buy a(nother) pair of suede shoes today that, for once, are made in Italy so mebbe she'll be happy now. And they're in the intriguing shade of 'Baltic blue'...

Another Lotus day today, with the snow having well and truly outstayed its welcome:
