  3. My Libra Pondus have arrived. The story of the order is full of unusual details. The packaging in Japanese paper and metal box to store and protect the kimono is unique in itself. Not to mention that Isamu san's blog features quotes from Schopenhauer and Goethe... 🙃

  5. Had no idea there was so much disdain for ONI! Just read some of the comments on the other page. I had a few pairs 6 or 7 years ago. Prior to that I’d been wearing mainly repro stuff so at the time, the heavyweight and loose weave fabrics appealed as a slightly different option. Back to wearing repro now but still got a few pairs of ONI in the closet. I agree the fits aren’t amazing, but I do think some of their denims are pretty nice regardless of how old the guy weaving it really is. Heres a few pics of mine over the years. As a biker, the 22oz natural indigo was a good winter jean and the Secret Denim is by far the softest heavyweight denim I’ve had.

  9. It seems to me that it is. I have a j1a 2.5 that I always took perfect care of it. Never bare skin, never in bad environment, always nikwash, always in the closet when off season, you name it... Still it got some delamination on the collar, okay not visible, in a folding part, I thought... then I wore it only a couple of time in the last season, because of good weather, then "okay, I clean it, put in closet". Nikwash at 40 degrees, then dry to fix the TX waterproof and it came out fully delaminated. After that I said goodbye to GTX products, especially considering that I have older schoeller and Stone Island textiles that are still in perfect condition and fully waterproof.

  14. I support this decision. You’ll never again be this young with this much time off from work. Take the opportunity and go! It might cost a bit to get there, but the weak Yen will make things affordable once you arrive. I’ll bet Hoosiers would welcome a visit if you made it to Kyoto. It would definitely be the trip of a lifetime.

  16. Kirk in Gunpowder. I wore these for these probably 3-4 months straight about 2 years ago, they got dirty and I tried to spot clean some areas which just really took off the dye in a noticeable way. After that I said screw it and just wore and washed like any other clothes and they were my main jeans for a few months when I was learning ceramics. Rolled with the marbling and everything. They’re beater jeans now but I actually like them more than ever at the moment. These were really slow to shrink - to the point that I was not actually believing they were unsanforized (still not sure) - but they did end up shrinking about 2” in the inseam and definitely a bit all over after all.

  19. ACME inspired 1950s/1960s SEARS branded "Roy Rogers"? cowboy boots with decorative stitching and red white and blue "Thunderbird" inlays. A bit of a personal holy grail. Years ago in the middle of my previous vintage country/ rockabilly dive I starting seeing mid century ads for these ornate old cowboy boots from companies like Nacona, Miller, and ACME. Very common in the middle part of the 20th century due to the popularity of entertainers like Rogers and the ever present Westerns that Hollywood was churning out, these designs grabbed my attention immediately. After a few lost auctions on EvilBAY and after holding a few pairs of far too gone crumbly examples I had kinda given up hope. Good examples can go for hundreds and they were getting scarcer and scarcer. And then these fell into my lap. Showing some obvious signs of age but the leather is still robust and they are still very wearable. And the best part? They are in my exact size. 🖤 These will get a deep condition and a polish, a toppy for the soles and will only be brought out for special occasions and light duty.

  22. Part 2 (Continued from last page) After falling down a rabbit hole trying to dig up some information on the 1984 brand and it's connection to Von Dutch I found this early pair for sale and I couldn't pass them up. The top button is missing but no hole left in the fabric tells me it was never added and the tags tell me these have never seen water so they must have been sitting folded up somewhere since the turn of the century. The details are very similar to the pair that I purchased at the skate shop years ago although this is a much thicker and more robust denim and instead of some light "oil staining" on the legs these have an nice brown/olive weft that gives them their dirty look. They also have some of the earliest examples of fake whiskers that I've seen and for 1999, it's actually not too bad of a job. Can't remember if my old pair had the same fake distressing or not but the wash is more realistic than most of what you'll find today. Again the cut is a vaguely vintage inspired relaxed taper but these are at least one size too big in the waist so they are extra full in the leg with plenty of anti fit. Retro inspired tags, fake selvedge, donut button fly, and again made in the U.S.A. with a tag emploring us to ride them "Until the Wheels Come Off". No bling in sight. Below: some retro inspired branding details and the same inside care tag as my old 1984 jeans. Hard to imagine what this company was about to become from this humble well built pair. Styled them here with denim on denim on denim. Digging the full leg shape. Denim Fishermen's cap Vintage Levis jacket LVC tee Favorite leather belt Von Dutch Jeans Some beat up shell longwings in desperate need of a resole. The fly showing the missing top button and a bit of the denim texture including the colored weft. The outseam stitching is clearly meant to evoke a selvedge line.
