I feel like an ass, but someone should really scoop up my RN04's. It kills me that no one is loving them considering they're brand new and I'm offering a killer deal on them. Make me an offer, something!

stick em on eBay, they will sell quicker, I never had much luck selling on SF

Here are a few close ups of the RS04 denim. It started out without any visible irregularities, but as it has worn in some slub has started to show up and I have some nice vertical fading going on.

I have noticed this slub as well on mine. This denim is fucking mysterious. All kinds of things going on beneath the surface.

At long last: the RoyxCone contest prize is arrived and in-hand! It took Roy and me a while to get this

prize deal nailed down (the deatils of which mostly boil down to me being a pain in Roy's ass), but I'm

thrilled to shit about it.

These are very similar to the new ducks Roy produced for SE, however they appear to be very slightly different. So far I've only identified two differences: the addition of a cinch (which is RAD), and the absence of a size tag attached to the leather patch. Anyone with eagle eyes out there pick up on any other differences? It's like a Roy-Easter egg hunt!

These ducks are fantastic; I'm actually surprised by how little comment I've seen about them thus far on

forums and whatnot.

Fresh outta the box:

Internal pocket-opening reinforcement, with a neat Western-wear inspired (?) shape to it

Self Edge's pictures don't show the buttons, which is a shame because I almost wet myself when I saw them. Seriously blinging crotch-fly.

The cinch: a different design than the one on the contest jeans, and also feels (to me) to have a little bit of a Western flair to it, with the pointed corners

As per normal with Roy, the construction of every bit and piece is fascinating.

Gave them a hot soak last night, as per Roy's instructions on the Self Edge website (except that they wound up soaking for closer to 25 minutes since I got distracted by word vomiting about Roy and showing Roy-videos to a lady-friend): hot soak in a bath tub with some hand agitation, then hung to dry. I didn't measure, but they definitely shrank up quite a good deal in every dimension. Since I soaked them a bit longer than I intended, I put a thin coat of Saphir Renovateur on the patch to make sure it doesn't dry out.

When I agitated them around at the end of the soak, the water turned a pretty nice brick red/brown, and after drying, I actually can see some wrinkle-spots where fading has occured. I'm surprised that this dye would crock so easily, but it's made me pretty damn excited to see how these look after some significant wear-time.

Getting these in the mail, with a hand-written note from Roy, got me all misty and nostalgic for the RoyxCone year, so I decided to pay some homage with my first day fit:

Favorite kitenge shirt

Favorite kitenge bandana

Zissou contest belt

Roy boxers (no vis; you're welcome)

Along with Rogue Territory ISC Supply Jacket, and army green chucks (which I figure substitute for the camo army boot sneakers I wore while traveling in the contest jeans, which don't fit in my bike's toe clips)

A hem job will come once I can tolerate taking them off for a few days.

And a shameless crotch-pic to illustrate the evidence of crocking:

Haha very true. Very mysterious. They drasticly change color and slub when you soak them, fade real slow, are darker than any Cones I've seen and we don't have any real refference on what they will look like in 2-3 years. Mysterious indeed.

Fuck... We should have done a contest....

waist: 17

inseam 35.5

opening 8.5

FR: 12

RR: 14.5

Gave them another warm soak and they have shrunk about another 1/2 inch in the leg, waist doesn't appeared to shrunk any further.

Will give them one more soak later to see if there's any further shrinkage before hemming.

Not sure whether to have a cuff or not?

These are looking really good btw.

dkatz, I'm brimming with envy on those ducks. That's a well deserved reward for your dedication to the RxC contest.

I'm definitely regretting not buying a pair upon release, probably the most enticing product I've seen from Roy since RxC. That pocket opening reinforcement is the tits. For me it's refreshing to see a looser cut from Roy; lately it's been a lot of slim fits, which I feel are not always congruent with the aesthetic of the fabrics he employs.

However, your reward pair appears to be a slimmer fit than the SE measurements suggest. Maybe it's because of your freakishly slim physique (aka the sidneylo effect).

Thanks for the thoughts, Peter!

They are a bit slim in the top block, but are actually already stretching out to be a bit roomier there - my bike ride to work this morning was considerably less restricted than yesterday's. The thighs are trim without being tight, and the lower leg is fairly spacious. I also probably could wear a size larger (these are 29s, compared to my size 30 rn1s) if I wanted a roomier fit, without having an outlandish amount of extra waist-band slack, so I do think they could be worn less slim-ly than I am. I could definitely see you rockin' these, Peter.

I've noticed that pants do have a tendency to look slimmer on me than they necessarily are, because my legs are proportionately quite large compared to my waist. Thus when I put on a pair of pants that aren't a "slim" cut, in a size that fits my waist perfectly, my legs will fill them out more than the average fella's would, and they'll thus wind up looking "slimmer" than they do on most folks.

Let me know if you are looking for a size that's not up on the website...we've got a couple sizes in LA that are sold out in SF.

ducks: there was no more shrinkage on the 3rd soak - 2 warm soaks gets it all out.

these have turned out just perfect, not narrow, the fit IMO is similar to RS04 - perhaps the leg tapers a little bit more.

don't hesitate on these if you are thinking about a getting a pair.
