Shoes that look better with age...

Some thoughts after a few days of wearing the wesco van cleef III from S&S: The leather is extremely delicate. It’s durability may exceed it’s appearance, but these seem to be fashion boots first, and aren’t intended to be treated roughly. The shaft leather on the left boot is substantially softer and maybe even thinner than the right boot. I don’t anticipate it keeping it’s shape for long. This leather could probably have used an inner lining. However, these same qualities have made them extremely easy to wear, requiring basically no break-in on the upper (sole needs some work still). I think I sized these exactly right, and they go on and off without much hassle. I have wide feet with a high instep as well. Overall I love the boots. They are very distinctive and attract lots of glimpses, comments, and questions. I am excited to see how they develop over time. I’m not worried about scratching them up or getting them dirty, but I wish I could avoid getting indigo stains from my jeans!

They look great. Maybe the coolest looking leather I’ve seen on a boot. Toe looks more bulbous than regular lofgrens, no? I think a lot of “normal” people would see a cut of leather with that many “imperfections” (those scars in the hide are pretty noticeable) and discount them as being flawed. Not us denim / leather freaks. I have a Brompton leather sofa that is covered in scars like thisCharacter like that is one of the main reasons I bought it. It’s probably too heavy for footwear but I’ve always thought it would look great on a boot.

Agree that chup are the worst in terms of wearability. They did a collab with smart wool and I bought a bunch thinking they would be smart wool -like but with chup patterns. That was not the case. As hard to get on as any standard chup socks.

Unraveled back pocket stitching happened on my 1101s at some point though I don’t recall exactly when. Was at least a year into it of mostly daily wear, I’m sure. So, you might be able to avoid it for a while but very much doubt that Fullcount is immune to this syndrome.

    The Flat Head

WRT the shirts, the constraining dimension has to be the midsection. A a few weeks of beer and meat and that shirt’s on the hanger for a couple of months.

    The Flat Head

Maybe! But not sure I’m psychologically ready for a tag that says 38 (do they make that?!?)! Three years ago it took a lot of humility to order size 35 samurai 710, size 36 took even a bit more!

    The Flat Head

Ordered a pair of 3009 from SE last week and wore them for the first time today after 1 warm wash and 1 hot wash (hopefully they don’t shrink too much more over the years) A few thoughts. These Japanese brands are not kind to western body types. I am 6’ and ~190 lbs (so not huge, but probably quite a bit bigger than the average Japanese male), and I’m not exactly swimming in the size 36. Also, I didn’t do any measurements and didn’t look them up, but I’d be surprised if the back rise were much longer than the front rise. These ratios aren’t ideal for those with meatier behind. Finally, I know people have mentioned the size of the pocket openings and I didn’t really know what to expect. It couldn’t be that bad, right? WRONG. The pocket openings are basically unusable. Once you get your hand in the pocket, the bags are a normal size, but nobody with normal sized hands would be able to get in there without force. People have blamed Flatheads bizarre sizing on the owner basically making everything to fit himself. Well, he’s not wearing size XL shirts or size 36 pants, so one would think they could do a better job of scaling these measurements to larger sizes. Someone who wears size 36 pants probably has bigger hands than someone wearing 28, so open up those pockets bro! That being said, i have a size XL of one of their western flannels from this winter, and after throwing it in the dryer, the proportions actually fit me pretty darn well. Usually I have a problem with the really narrow shoulders from these Japanese companies (18” on a lot of brands in my size), so glad the flathead at least gives me something different to worry about. The neck opening is a bit big. And despite the ridiculousness of some of the measurements, I do think the pants will work for me and am excited to see how they progress.

    Watches and Denim

My wife got me the Longines Heritage Legend diver for a birthday / anniversary gift. A nice change of pace from the black bay. This watch is absolutely beautiful, and a great steal @1600 new. And it has the same movement as my Black Bay (pre in house movement)! I really want a vintage JLC memovox, but can’t justify it at the moment. This gives the same feel at a fraction of the price. The best part about this thing is the sapphire crystal rises vertically from the sides of the case for a few millimeters, giving this super thick but still minimalist look. This is is what I mean about the crystal. Easily gives the watch a few mm of thickness without making it look thick.

I’d say that’s a very flattering fit on you.

I assure you, there’s room for both beer and wine in your life (also speaking from experience). Fortunately beer (even the expensive stuff) is much less expensive than wine.

Also, if you want a new rabbit hole to throw your money down, may I suggest wine (speaking from experience). 2015 and 2016 chateauneuf du pape were not kind to my bank account!

Happened to me as well. And when it did I stopped scouring the internet for cool shit and just started buying sale shirts from Bonobos with cool prints and a good fit (for me), with admittedly shitty fabric and maybe questionable production practices (don’t know this last point one way or another; never looked into it). Whatever, don’t want to spend $300 on a shirt that doesn’t fit or doesn’t get me excited about wearing it. Haven’t skimped on jeans though, but like you said I know what I like and what works for me so not much more to discover.

    Unknown Non-Japanese Brands

Love those fleeces as well. @volvo240thebests pic in the TCB contest thread (wearing Yuketen or similar instead of the sneaks) had me thinking about if JFK junior had grown up in the 90s.
