I’d say that’s a very flattering fit on you.

I assure you, there’s room for both beer and wine in your life (also speaking from experience). Fortunately beer (even the expensive stuff) is much less expensive than wine.

Also, if you want a new rabbit hole to throw your money down, may I suggest wine (speaking from experience). 2015 and 2016 chateauneuf du pape were not kind to my bank account!

Happened to me as well. And when it did I stopped scouring the internet for cool shit and just started buying sale shirts from Bonobos with cool prints and a good fit (for me), with admittedly shitty fabric and maybe questionable production practices (don’t know this last point one way or another; never looked into it). Whatever, don’t want to spend $300 on a shirt that doesn’t fit or doesn’t get me excited about wearing it. Haven’t skimped on jeans though, but like you said I know what I like and what works for me so not much more to discover.

Love those fleeces as well. @volvo240thebests pic in the TCB contest thread (wearing Yuketen or similar instead of the sneaks) had me thinking about if JFK junior had grown up in the 90s.

    Roy. (expurgated edition)

Here are my (nearly) 7 year old Roy RS04. Worn as my primary pair from July 2012 until November 2014, and then many times off and on since then. Major repairs by indigoproof. These were hemmed by selfedge at least 1 year after purchase + soak + several washes, so whoever says you can’t get good roping after soaking is a fool. Sorry, no fitpics on account of a certain moose knuckle.

Still have the jeans. They are going on 7 years old now! Will never get rid of them (not that they’d be much use to anyone!). Maybe my daughter will wear them one day, or a son if I have one. I’ll post some pics soon. The darning job from indigo proof really is very impressive, despite the thickness of the fabric. The thread color is perfectly blended and it looks like a natural fade, despite being essentially new blue and grey thread.

I don’t understand by @beautiful_FrEaK doesn’t just come home early from his vacation, quit his job, and post full time about his pair 30th anniversary Denime .

My pair of RS04 looked like that once... They were becoming pretty threadbare a few years ago so I sent them out for repairs. The darning on the thighs and crotch came back so thick they weren’t very comfortable. I’m sure they would’ve softened up again with wear, but sort of lost interest in being uncomfortable. Plus the repairs were so extensive they were barely the same pants anymore. Or maybe I just got fat and they didn’t fit...

    Watches and Denim

I picked up a couple of the Supreme Nato (seatbelt type fabric) straps from Crown and Buckle and quite like the look of this khaki one on my Black Bay

Agreed that calf size is a constraining factor for me on these cuts. Thought I would love the relaxed tapered fits because I need the extra room up top and in the thigh, and it’s so hard to find that fit without a 9”+ leg opening, but imo they went too far in the other direction with the leg opening. I basically need to take my pants off just to pull my socks up!

I would never buy a pair of jeans unless they measured 35-36in waist, >= 13in thigh, and <9in leg opening raw. Having these measurements doesn’t guarantee the fit will work, but having something different in any of those areas would guarantee they will not work. But I would also never look at the measurements if there weren’t something compelling about the denim, details, or brand history. So, really it all matters to me. If i only cared about fit I would probably just buy something from Bonobos with a little bit of stretch. If I cared only about fabric there are tons of interesting choices that would look absolutely terrible on me.
  16. The ooe leather looks sweet, but I find those Cossack jackets to look too costumey sometimes and I think the fine creek will be much more versatile.

I’ve been having a great time reading through all the posts on this topic. Funny coincidence that this popped up today on gear patrol. I’m sure this type of mainstream advertisement on a hypedriving website won’t help the wait time. https://gearpatrol.com/2019/01/18/w-h-ranch-r1901-ryder-ready-to-wear-jeans/

Shoes that look better with age...

I don’t have the Roberts, but a similar model on the same last (I think) with a soft toe that was sold through a retailer called Zurick a few years back. I have no complaints. They are four years old now, have seen daily wear for at least 3 of those years, and are still going strong with little to no maintenance. I really lucked out on theses. They had them on sale and I got them shipped for <$300

    Samurai Jeans

I’ve been out of the game for some time now, and don’t have the motivation to go through 2 years of posts, but BiG still isn’t selling any of the “normal” brands on their site and have totally revamped their product offering. I’m guessing the lawsuit didn’t turn out well for them, or they just decided it wasn’t worth fighting and changed their business model accordingly. Bummer for the denimheads at least.
