Thank you @bartlebyyphonics! So far they're not so bad at all. I guess after decades of trial and error, they've figured out where to place them without creating comfort issues.

Agreed about the current fascination with balloon butt. I see a lot of the 1890s on the TCB insta. I don't hate it. Kind of an architectural wonder really

My initial reaction to the butt sag of the No. 2 was a big hmmm. The more that I see people wearing them though on TCB's instagram, the more that the sag has really grown on me. It feels like a return to my high school pants preferences circa 2008-2010. It's actually hard to find a pair that isn't relatively tight on my butt, even my 50s paired sized up one is a bit more fitted than saggy.

I'm looking forward to trying on my pair once they arrive and seeing how they fade even if the nature of the details limits their usage a bit.

@Hopethisoneisnttaken those look so good! How did you remove the buttons? Just snip and darn?

Thank you!
Yes, I used my wire cutters. I cut it from the inside of the jeans and then darned it with a plain needle and thread. Looks very DIY but I wear them with a belt all the time since they’re 1 waist size above my waist size, so doesn’t matter as much.

Little medley of new TCB releases from the summer. Number 2 jeans are very easy to wear at your regular waist size. Surprisingly a more understated and modern fit than other TCB models.  Really pleased with them.

EDIT: I wear the same size in all TCB models (34, my actual waist size) except for 50s which I size up to a 36 for additional room in the seat. These are a perfect fit for me, not oversized or tight at all.

I just tried mine on as well. I agree. I'm pleasantly surprised and happy with the fit. They're higher rise and wider legged than the size chart made them seem, sitting right at the belly button. I had the same sizing experience. I'm about 31.5" around and 32 fits well. Somehow it's comfortably loose in the waist, yet stays up without issue. In a weird way, the fit reminds me a lot of dress trousers which I like since it doesn't limit them to strictly workwear looks. I had belt loops added to these as well.

I'll post some more pics of the jeans when I'm less busy

many thanks @Alec Leamas: not unhappy with the fit, finish and weight (feels nicely chunkier than expected)…

not doing comp this time: want to wear these for a longer time uncompetitively…

done some measuring as i know in previous comps there had been variance irl vs chart…

re; jeans; rise is accurate: as expected thigh is wider from the chart’s number: or maybe i am measuring different?

re; jacket: numbers match up; many tcb jackets have tubular character (58 p2p vs 63/4 length on my sz48 s40s iirc) whilst this may be longer than some but keeps a boxy proportion: thumbs up!

tcb 1890s no.2

jeans w.38

w: 47.5 laid flat

fr: 31

br: just shy of 44

thigh: 34

hem: 24.5 (at 80cm inseam point)

jacket sz 46

shoulder: 60

p2p: 64

length: 64

sleeve: 56

armpit: 28

wrist opening: 11.5

Are you both partaking in the contest? I only remembered about it a few nights ago after seeing someone posting about it on r/rawdenim

I originally was planning on it but I haven’t heard any further details so maybe I slipped through the cracks. Not a big deal either way since I was only participating to track along. I have and had no illusions of seriously competing.

Here are a few more fit pics of the jeans in natural light (way too hot for the jacket today). The lighting is still not ideal for fit pic details of the jeans but at least it was good for what I set out to take photos of. Like Bartleby showed, the pockets on both the jeans and jacket are nice and big on these. Maybe the biggest that I have seen. I can fit a small notebook into any of the pockets. The rise is very high for a size 32 as well. It must crack at least 12.5”. Still need to measure them myself.

People get so scared of marbling their jeans in the wash, but it always looks so cool when they do get marbled. Good shit.

you are very welcome and many thanks! when you click on the pictures, they become much sharper. i don't know why, but the embedded ones are quite blurred. felt the same way too btw., since late 30s don't seem very popular and hard to find even more so worn in pairs...

@the 1890s: scratch your precious mid century furniture with those bare rivets!?

I was honestly a little worries about messing up the upholstery on our 1940's vintage Russell Wright? chairs, but thankfully all the rivets on these have been hammered (or even stamped) down flat, including the ones on the coin pocket.

To be fair, it's been so hot I have yet to wear them at home, only at the office/lab where there is no choice other than long pants and I have no furniture concerns

These look great. Do you happen to know how TCB's 30's denim compares to Warehouse's Banner Denim since both are roughly from the same era, unless I'm misremembering the provenance of the Banner Denim?
