Sound advice! I had already pulled the trigger on 34s, which I’ll now be exchanging for 36s. Sharing in case anyone else needs measurements…

They look great @Dry, can you reveal how much you paid for them?

£1,300. Would have liked a 36 inch leg but they don't come up often like this. The inside bit of 1 of the rivets is missing but the outside bit is there. Thinking about  taking a silver inside bit from another pair and gluing it on.

awesome haul  @Dry .... can you do picture of inside tag ?

No inside tags in those days @vIGGiou riou. There is a stamp on 1 of the pockets.

Since I've spent most of my raw denim time with Japanese brands, I thought it would be good to try a pair of LVC. This pair of LVCJ 50s-XX from 1999 popped up at a reasonable price and almost unused condition. Seller measured it smaller than it really was and it stretches easily with wear. I could have gone down a size or even two The inseam also turned out a good deal longer than I wanted, as I hoped to rock them with a short inseam, ivy style. It's a comfortable fit without looking too baggy, and I'm liking that high rise for a change. Doesn't even need a belt to stay up.

The construction seems a bit sloppier than I've grown used to seeing in my other pairs, with ample amounts of loose thread ends throughout, but I'm very happy with them nevertheless. Fabric is quite interesting too, grainy and bumpy, some fluffiness, and just a bit crispy.

Some of the colours look a lot warmer than in real life, courtesy of that early morning sun. But here's a bunch of photos of some jeans on dewy grass, taken by some weirdo at about 7 in the morning.

I could be wrong, but the selvedge line in this fabric was probably always a faded pink instead of true red. During the time of searching, all pairs seemed to have the same type of selvedge line, and all of them were made in 1999.

Curious to see if this particular model from LVCJ was ever made in other years and with other fabrics.

I thought someone might of posted a review of the 1960s Made in Japan by now. I did have a pair in my cart on the Levis UK Store at launch but before I could say "these will probably be returned" all 3 pairs in my size sold out!

My 554 San Antone’s starting to come to life. 6 months of mostly daily wear. Been washed fairly frequently too. Can’t wait to see how they look after about a year of wear. I love these jeans. Fit like a glove and no need for a cuff.

I was wondering if the Levi’s was still struggling to sell those 1955 Japan 501s so I checked the app and it looks like the Type 1 is now available in the EU for £240.  It’s the same serial number as the 1 found on Hinyoa, so maybe it’s MiJ too.

There doesn’t seem to be a Type 2, I also have a feeling that LVC might re-release the Triple Pleated Blouse and 1890s 501.  They recently posted them on their Instagram and they don’t tend to post items they don’t sell.

The Triple Pleated Blouse is on my wish list, I’d love to have 1.

Edit:

The Type 1 is also on End Clothing for £279 which is odd.

my 1944's have arrived. note the new paper bags Levi's are using now instead of the old red and white plastic ones. Gotta be environmentally friendly now.

then the jeans come in a bio degradable satin like feel bag.

Note now the back of the top button now says "01" instead of nothing.

What you've failed to take into account Charlie is that these jeans use SHRINK TO FIT denim! Once the jeans shrink, the suspender buttons on the waistband will align perfectly with those in the bottom photo and will be TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL.

EVERY DETAIL, TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL.

They've got the spacings between the suspender buttons bang on

Paul, I have a couple of pairs of Levi’s Japan if you’re interested in any further pictures - 503B and 503BSXX (natural indigo), both from the early 90s. I won’t be offended if you’re not! :laugh2:

@Maynard Friedman Do you still have a any pics of the 503BSXXs please? I am interested to see how they fade - my impression is that that they are low contrast and don't fade or whisker much, becoming grey overall with no electric blue at wear points to start off with, just like as if the colour has bled (presumably because of the natural indigo). Unless the pairs in the other pics I have seen have not been treated properly, in which case is a secret to keeping the natural indigo colour rich and crisp with high contrast fades later on?

The first pic is what I would call high contrast (in Levis), faded in a way that I like and the second pic (which are 503BXX but not 503BSXX) are fading in a way that I don't like. Having said that the 3rd pic is also of the same pair of 503BXXs and shows a nice rich colour.

I did post some photos here years ago Dry but they seem to have been lost. Here are some I posted on Denimbro (and have just stolen back so are unfortunately low res) in early 2020 and they still remain unworn but are rising to the top of the pile. They’re over 30 years old now!
