Levi's Vintage Clothing

Thanks Almostnice,

Apart from the great denim on the 15's, the 1901's are easily (IMHO) the more authentic looking 501 ..apart from that patch obviously.

The proportions seem more balanced, the suspender buttons are the right distance apart and the back pocket shapes are correct. Also, looking from the front, the rise seems higher on the 1901.

thanks for posting.

actually I dont think that looks silly at all. +rep

thanks. They're kind of an attention getter, and I don't really like that. but I'll see how it goes.

@ almostnice and anyone else with a pair of 1915s that have been soaked :

did you get any leg twist at all? mine have absolutely none after a warm soak and cold hand wash. I don't really care much, I'm just curious about it.

Mine will be in a few more weeks.

On the question of leg twist, why does leg twist affect the left leg on right hand twill jeans more than the right leg? This is true on all of my LVC and is true on my cursory survey of Paul T's book and various Levi's vintage jeans I checked.

The Superdenim Encyclopedia doesn't seem to have a thread on this topic.

they look pretty cool, but I think I look kinda silly wearing them in the real world.

i agree -- not silly at all. i've been debating whether i want to pick up a pair of 17s and have had the same misgivings about wearing suspenders regularly. also, seems too frivilous for a broke dude to buy a pair $150 jeans that he will wear only semi-regularly. but still, the sale price is nice -- i just wish cultizm had a 15 in 34/38. afraid 36 inseam will shrink a little too much.

mine are tagged 32x36 and measured 35x36.75 - so maybe the extra half inch would help?

Did you email Dejan? He sometimes has stuff thats not listed. I really like the denim on the 15s much better than I do my 17s.

thanks for the info -- yes, i think that extra 3/4 inch would be just enough. i usually like a 36-37" inseam when all shrinkage is out of the way, but with these i would be after a 35".

really? although i have heard this before. without having been close to either 15s or 17s, i think i like the 15's better too. the back pockets on the 15s are nice, and everyone with 15s has raved about the denim. any pics of your 17s? i'll check around to see if you've posted any.

Hey Josh remember too that you can get some extra length back if you will stretch the legs a few times while they are drying, but only if you're hang drying of course (don't use the dryer and I recommend outdoors). Especially helpfull to stretch them real good right after the soak, but then also maybe a couple more times before the drying is complete. I do this to get a bit more cuff and it works great. It means that your washes will be a little more attention consumeing but worth it, especially if like most here, you only plan to wash a few times a year. Good luck.

i usually go with two two-hour hot soaks -- i will want max shrinkage everywhere else. seems like a another example of lvc sizing causing trouble for me. one of these days they'll get it right and correct some their sizing issues. at least for me, lvc sizing is always confounding and in most cases prohibitively troublesome. not all doom and gloom though -- really enjoying my 67s and eagerly anticipating the arrival of 55s.

The denim twists the same amount on both sides. It's the way the legs are cut that makes it appear that the left leg twists more.
