  3. Found this pic on lg by accident, and of course had to share. Shame it was the only image. Vintage 501XX sz 32x33 made sometime between c.1940 until c.(April)1942 in Nos condition. Click on image twice for clarity but it's the reverse yoke model which came after '1937' buckleback 501, but before the 1942 buckleback 501(the worn pair in the post above). Copper riveted on the two horse patch and also on the pocket flasher (dated 1937) and the guarantee ticket. First deadstock pair I've ever seen and a thing of beauty, just wish there were more detailed shots of them.

  4. Final check on two of the best Freewheelers pieces: Woollen Sweater - SOLD The turndown collar sweater coat - 2kg of the best soft cosy wool, knitted by the only guy in Japan that can. This was one of the original batch of 50 that was made. Pretty much mint condition, p2p is 20” but the knit is stretchy. Less than half price at £350 (shipping will be depending on where and what method) More baseball influence - Barnstormers Rigging Co. Baseball Style Warm-up Sweater in a deep rust orange beach cloth - really unusual to see beach cloth in this tone but it’s NOT a difficult colour to wear (anyone starts with ‘earth tones’ or somesuch can f-ck right off 😂). Barnstormers were/are Freewheelers high end experimental lab - a lot of hand made, exotic material, extremely limited edition stuff. Anyways, again, a bit under half price at £300. Mint condition and about 20.5” p2p These will be available only until Tuesday, so if you’re interested DM me

We all know you’re a nerd about anything you like enough - denim, bikes, wood, bathrooms, tents, anything Sheffield related (😴), turmeric (FFS!) - it’s in your DNA, so stop pretending and give ‘em a try. If they’re not hardwearing enough, I’ll send you my ‘Neasden Polytechnic’ t-shirt that you can wear for work 😆

  7. Small detail observed in Clutchman's video, with the comparison of the 1946 SG model (on the left) and the 1946 501 (on the right): the stitching of the belt loop is sewn into the pocket bag on the 501, whereas in SG's reproduction, it is not sewn into the pocket bag. 🧐

  8. I bought the 1946 model (a bit late, lol). I was lucky to find a pair in my size at Göteborg Manufaktur. Thanks @Beau_FrEaK for the advice. The fit is perfect for me. The fabric is really beautiful, and the level of detail is impressive. I can't wait to wear it, but I'll have to get the length altered.

  14. I came across this last weekend. Mingus was my entry point to jazz and Coletrane's "Live at the Village Vanguard" with Eric Dolphy changed my entire conception of what jazz could be. Dolphy and Mingus together, live and in color is transcendent.

  16. No clue how old it is but I snagged this vintage Rustler jacket yesterday for a song. I dig the slim fit, and it sits right where I like my jackets to. I really like the shade of blue and the wear it's got. Always loved the hand warmer pockets on these Rustlers too.

  17. Cushman has put its 2024 FW catalogue online. There are some nice pieces in there. Type 1 jacket and 1937 jeans. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kcfV2Uq_ZWjzvxrWv9E9dEe2EmCgjwke/view They are both made with vintage sewing machines. 41 Weapon Cloth pants Duck jackets in light brown and black The tshirts from the summer catalogue are also sewn with vintage machines. The made in Taiwan sneakers are also nice. All have relatively fair prices, I find.

  20. thanks for the blast from the past 00. i did look alright 10kgs ago... which tezos r u getting? probably time for me to get some new ones, i'll probably hv to get the 75/80 on the normal tees now, being irreversibly more plump. i was a 70 for the longest time till the pandemic. ull probably destroy them in seconds tho, theyre not sturdy, especially the standard tees. even mine have disintegrated beyond sashiko repairs. and im as sedentary as they get. the 'shoulder patch' tee is more resilient, clearly thicker to the touch, but the sizing is weird. when they say it will stretch, it really does up to a size bigger. shrinks back after each wash. the colours also look more vibrant/saturated on the shoulder patch tee. here's one worn by my daughter – a hands down from the missus – after a dance performance (hence the yellow hair bow and work pants of many coiours), wd be at least 10 years old.

  21. Crazy how the algorithm works.. i like how it's rejuvenating interest in forgotten bands.. this album cover popped up a couple of months ago.. i clicked on it just because it was a dope af album cover ..and so did millions of others.. next thing this Japanese band from the 90s who disbanded after the release of their first album (which only sold a few 1000 copies) have 2million + views and a legion of worldwide fans.. the female singer married the guy who took the photo and all but disappeared.

  23. I agree with willi. Based on your description and location, I’d try Kamakura and then Jake’s depending on patterns and fits. Mercer, J Press classic fit, and vintage BB will be fuller cut and longer (meant for tucking) but will have the billowy fit of the classic Miles Davis, Fred Astaire, and Paul Newman mid-century look. Mercer has a huge number of cloth options and are MTO but they do fit huge (52” chest on 15.5” neck)

  24. Yesterday my girlfriend and I went to a vintage market and I snagged some great pieces. Everything but the baseball tee and the Jeff Gordon tee were from the same vendor and he cut me a deal that made my day. Been wanting a varsity jacket for a while now so that was a good find. Then back at her apartment I cooked some lions mane mushrooms to make tacos. Never cooked these before but had them once or twice. It's impressive how well you can make them taste and feel like meat (at least from what I can remember). They were fun to cook too. Today she and I went for a bike ride along the Ohio Erie canal towpath. It's nearing the end of September and it's still mid 80s here in Ohio, and I'm over it. I want to wear jackets already.

  28. … and following up on what I mentioned in the Nice Things thread - I’ve been farting about with stripping down and rebuilding Blue Monday, which is really just a hotch potch of Moroder and Italo-Disco, Kraftwerk, a few accidents and by all accounts (from Hooky himself no less) some Morricone

  29. I got a ‘job’ in a school band because I figured out how to use a Korg MS-10 the group had bought … well it was the drummer bought it because his dad was loaded; we used to practice in the loft of his dad’s garage. My family didn’t have a car, never mind a garage, so it was quite something to see a garage that had a loft big enough for the band gear and still have plenty room to play table tennis. Anyway the Roland TB-303 came along a few years later and we convinced him to buy that too - loved it. Eventually I got to try out quite a few synths and drum machines. I just noodle on my iPad with those sounds now.

  33. I was going to buy a bundle of their standard short sleeve tees Ooms.. see the looped thread but their fragility could be a deal breaker.. I need to replace all of my tees but i'm not the kinda guy who spends £50 on a plain tee, no matter how nice the material.. i mean, how much time does one spend appreciating the fabric of t-shirts? from my perspective, that would be zero hours / wk .. i can buy a perfect fitting plain white tee for a 5er .. the dying adds a whole new dimension tho, but as you say.. my tees are fked because i wear them hard, if i can't wear these without fear of them becoming holey in the nr future, they might not be the tees for me.

  37. Thanks all that's all super helpful! @willi I suppose the look I'm going for is kind of pot smoking jazz musician ivy league dropout? Is that a thing? In my minds eye that's what the look is I'm imagining. Great reminder on Jakes too! Jake and Albert make up a great shirt!! @yung_flynn thanks for the detail, I can tell this is an area you've put a lot of time into examining, I'll check those links out and great tip on the vintage Brooks Brothers! @Geeman thank you for the tip also on Gitman and John Simons, I'll have a look at theirs! I would absolutely be looking to tuck the shirts in, and I am leaning closer and closer to the Kamakura's after yours and everyone's comments - probably a popover and just a standard button down These are particularly appealing:

  39. Which is why I think we need a "standard" hip measurement along with front rise and back rise to understand top block fit better. Measurement #3 on the chart. Of course, there is the question of how far down from waist to take the measurement...

  42. If I recall, with some sleuthing, the JPY prices for FC were still to be found on the sites of some lesser known retailers, though I’m not sure if that held after recent adjustments? Still, Bears isn’t the only place. The above brands are all solid recs too. Moto jeans are made by the TCB folks.

Mandarins are sometimes ripe when the skin is still green, as I've learnt. Same goes for oranges in some cases. This should be an early variety of satsuma.

  47. This is an update on my ed39 justv over 4.5 years worth of wear around 3-4 times per week. I have rotated this pair with other denim but it’s been my main jeans since I purchased them. They are slowly forming holes in the crotch area which is normal. I do wish I washed it more often though to get a lighter colour. Mine will defo get a crotch blowout before they turn light enough. Iv been washing them 2 times per year some years 3. They have shrank a little and the legs feel slimmer compared to when I got them. The quality of the denim is top notch (rainbow selvedge) and has high quality pocket bags Edwin’s are under rated for sure. sorry for bad quality image i need to upgrade my phone.
