I'm in shanghai right now wearing my og Roys and wondering if I am only person wearing these jawns in a country of a billion people.

On a different note, i wish people wouldn't be so bothered by the new price hike, especially since these are the perfect pair of quality understated jeans (imo) and also when all our other favorite jean brand's cost about the same to buy. If u mad, then all I gotta say is u shouldn't have slept.

Can't knock the hustle

Cheers!:)

Fuck yeah. I like this. Best pair yet. I love how the pockets turned out after a big wallet was shoved in there. That is great. I would love to see pics of the buttons from the front. The back of the top button is looking nice.

All you folks with denim ROYs got some 'splainin to do.

I see evo pics like that, and think maybe if the price was $225 - $275 right off the bat, i might have jumped right in! just cant forget that feeling when i discovered this thread, then the man and his machines, then the amazing price piont.... maybe it was to good of a price. like when a restaurant has a "soft opening" type steez. hmmmmm

Don't all jeans manufacturers have 'machines'? :)

Not machines like ROY's. Although, I believe Rising Sun has machines like ROY's.

To draw the comparison. Rising Sun's jeans have a different niche, but they are sewn on site in Pasadena and run between $300 and $500 for a ready made pair. Completely different aesthetic I know, but ROY hand makes his jeans HIMSELF and is charging $275.

Back when I was slangin' crack I used to give the first one for free, but the second one? Well, the second one is gonna cost ya.

After just missing out on the so called 'OG's' I promised myself that Roys would be the next pair of jeans that I paid full price for. Well, now we know what that real price is and I'm still going to get some. I might just take a trip across the Bay and go to the source or I might just walk a few blocks down from my house to SE. Either way is fine, the guys at SE have always been worth supporting and so is ROY.

I honestly see all this fuss about the price as ridiculous. Almost everyone on here has paid above $200 for jeans and in quite a few cases $300. All our friends and family already think we're insane 'You paid how much?!?! Aren't they just the same as the $30 ones from Walmart???'

Also I had a sneaky feeling that the SExRoy thing was going to happen. About 4 months ago I asked the SE guys if they knew what Roy was planning next and they got all kinda sheepish and quiet and mumbled that they didn't really know what was up. Haha, I should've guessed.

I can't believe this is still going on...

SE should have priced the jeans at $600 and had a 1/2 sale for SF members... then everyone would be placing orders and cheering about what a great deal they got.

In perspective, I paid $290 for my pair of Alden 405's.

On my way to Korea, fellas, to get that elusive and rare Korean denim that's all the rage. EVERYONE knows that Japanese and Cone Mills denim can't hold Korean denim's jock strap. .

Seriously though, I've got a long layover in Chicago that allows for me to meet up with friends, drink beer, and eat pizza. All while wearing my ROYs. Boom.

i just rewatched his original video. It reminded me exactly why I want to buy a pair of Roys. He is fucking rad. You want Made In the US? THAT is made in the US. It's not a factory. It's one dude. Pure love of the process and the outcome. Not trying to make a million dollars, but trying to make something special and enjoy doing while not going into debt. I think he rules and I will gladly support him. I'm just jealous that I'm not doing that, and that I'm not his apprentice.

Thats all I gotta say.

Roy Slaper is as interesting as his machines.

There's an old saying "You snooze you lose", Roy was selling jeans for $150 for plenty of time for anybody who wanted to to get on board at that price. Those who took at chance back then were rewarded with a great product. Those who were afraid or unaware of Mr Slaper's fine jeans can now buy them at a much higher price. Roy gets to make his jeans in batches that he's guaranteed to get paid for and can then use that money to branch out into new items and get more cool machines.

For all the people bitching about his prices, I'd love to hear who does what he does at a significantly lower price.

Well, I have never heard the "snooze you lose" line, but I do remember, back in the old days, a saying that had something to do with an "early bird" and a "worm." I am not quite sure how that goes though.

I think people would be hard pressed to find someone that does what ROY does for cheaper. Ande Whall is really the only comparison. Both great dudes.

Also, I don't really think people are "bitching," just a little hurt. I am sure we will all get over it. I just wish there was no middle man. Maybe this gives me a good excuse to hit up his shop in Oakland and meet some SF folks.

^ I'm almost in the same boat - my Roy's ended up 1 to 2 cm shorter in the inseam after a soak and a wash than I would have preferred :P

I am with you guys. I was so pumped to get in on that June deadline, only to be disappointed with the fact that mine ended up being about 1-2 inches too short in the inseam. I was waiting for the 2ng gen to pick up a new pair, now I don't know what I'll do. Bummer.

Understanding the economics of it a little (SelfEdge/any specialist boutique has a markup much smaller than any of the numbers thrown out here, AFAIK), I understand why prices needed to go up.

But $275 puts his product in the same range as Fullcount/Warehouse/Ooe Yofukuten, etc. - only $50 less than Iron Heart, etc.. That's tough competition, whereas $150 was putting him against APC and the like.

When I'm in need, I'll still look at Roy's offerings, but it's far from a sure thing.

IH can be had for less than $275 - their offerings are around the same price as Fullcount, WH, SDA, etc in Japan.

In fact, SDA special editions are far more expensive in the Japanese domestic market than any pair of IH I've seen there.

But I agree, at $275 it's a different ballgame with a different level of competition.

Exactly! ROYs in a new playing field now. The quality and soul are definitely there, but he'll have to show us something with his design work and materials to really compete with some of the above mentioned brands, I think.

This thread is horrible. Whenever I check it I can't find anything about Roy related news, just page after page of nonsense. It oscillates between self ordained, hideously annoying original fan boys and pathetically uniformed rants about fashion economics.

This thread is really the opposite of what makes Roy's brand so cool, don't tarnish a good thing boys.

is this discussion on the new pricing not roy related news? what exactly were you looking for?

edit: if everything in this forum was dedicated to the thread title with no thrash talking of whatsoever, i think this forum would close down in 2 days.
