thanks for all the replies. what is it about the agitation of a wash that makes the jeans shrink so much more than just a soak?

no one has any insight on why a machine wash achieves more shrinkage?

The machine wash gets more shrinkage because the agitation makes the fibres move more, allowing the weave to tighten further.

(not to be rude... but can we put this Q to bed? Hot soak - most of the shrinkage, hot wash - more shrinkage, add dryer for max shrinkage)

Will a hot wash/dryer mess up your chance for the jeans fading?

Also, how much shrinkage should I expect in the thigh, knee, hem in the S5000VX/BK after the first hot wash or soak? .25 (.5 total) or .5 (1 inch total) like 12.5 down to 12.25 or 12

did you wear them dry out of the dryer? i would get it damp again so you can get those creases right. i dont think much is going on there but that might be your thing i dont know. respek

I bought a pair of 710's sz 29. Before wash, I can only button the 2 bottom-most buttons. The denim will obviously shrink after wash. I'm wondering if 710's will stretch (after wash) enough for me to button all the buttons up?

uhh.. it probably wont ever get back to the pre-shrink measurements. i think you're out of luck.

^^^ no, i could barely button up all of mine before a soak. and they are still tight after about a month of wear. i would say size up to a 30, maybe even a 31

Oh yeah mine did that too. I had 5000vx and 0510XX and this is the only one which was that stiff after a wash

Ugh I think I'm giving up on my 610s for a while to send them out to denim doctors for some slight tapering. my sexsc06s fit so much better
