Smaller phones are the way to go but perhaps this could be like the recent car size debate all over again!

I got an iPhone 6S when it came out in fall 2015, and used one all the way until fall 2021. Then I got an iPhone SE, which is pretty much the same form factor as the 6S, just with newer hardware inside. It's still going strong so I suspect I'll keep using it until something catastrophic happens or it's no longer supported. I've never felt like I needed a bigger phone with tons of cameras or other features. I feel like a bigger, fancier phone would just tempt me to use it more, which isn't really appealing since I waste enough time on the phone as-is.

^ similarly I've got a 12 mini, and while I truly hate having a smartphone at all, it's the least bad version because of the size (same as the old iPhone 4).

I keep trying to figure out how I can just go without once this thing kicks the bucket but I haven't sorted it - not with the apps I need for preschool, or the doctor, or the gym I go to which makes you register on this dumb app, or maps, or whatever. Every day I ride by a shitty, muck filled duck pond and envision throwing my phone in there and pedaling off into the sunset.

Yep, I had an SE for a long time and just switched to a 12 Mini a couple years ago. It’s too big, but less too big than any of the other viable options (emphasis on viable), and all things considered iPhones do seem to hold up great

I've just been to the barbers, there's usually only one dude cutting hair, another guy came in while i was getting my hair cut.. they were chatting (i'm no sure what nationality my barber is) i assumed this guy was a friend, waiting for a haircut, then he stepped up to the counter and i noticed he'd put an apron on.. he took the lid off this mini cauldron.. and stirred what looked like black treacle with one of those big lolly sticks you use for waxing.. then this other dude came in and sat down in the barbers chair beside me.. by listening in on their conversation, i discovered it was black castor oil.. dude already had very short cropped afro hair so i was fascinated as to what he was going to do with the treacly gloop.. sadly my hair was finished before they got started.. while getting my shit together i was going to ask what it was for.. then i noticed this dude had pretty significant scarring to the back of his head so i didn't just in case he was sensitive towards it..  now i don't know if his was a hair treatment or a scar treatment?

Anyone?

Already googled it.. it can be used for hair, dry skin, eyelashes, eyebrows ect..

Bit of a cure-all for skin and hair.. i've just never seen it used in a barbers shop

edit- although the guy getting the treatment was probably from the west indies.. if i had to guess, i'd say the barbers are probably middle eastern

If you like them, go for it..  i'm not giving you shit about your taste in footwear..  personally, i think they look hideous and most folks have the ability to make them look even worse..(present company exceped) i thought the same with Mister Freedom, he has a handful of nice pieces but most of it looked cartoonish and more often than not, worn badly by people who thought they looked dope just because they were wearing MF.

If they wasn't Rick Owens, if they wasn't sold a Self Edge would you still have bought a similar looking pair of sneakers?

Here's a weekend denim task.. (for the perpetually bored) let's discover Denim Pi or Dπ as i've just coined it..

Find a pair of jeans which fit nicely around your waist and measure them BiG style

For me thats 43cm

Now measure around your waist where those jeans fit.. for me thats 87cm

Work out the factor by dividing 87 into 43 = 2.023

I'm going to cauiously call this number Dπ (allowing .1 for error)

Peer review and prove me right or wrong :D

Back in 2008 Blue in Green and Self Edge were the two largest denim stores outside of JP, they both measure their jeans differently.. BiG with the waistband pulled flat, SE with the waistband sagging so to avoid possible variations in measurements, we would always note our method of measuring.. i have always used BiG method because i think it has less chance for variables... BiG fell out of favour quite some years ago, since they stopped stocking the brands we love around here so folks coming to forumland in recent years will understandably wonder why we choose a method from a somewhat obscure source.

For sure, different strokes for different folks. To be fair, I got 'em way before SE ever stocked them, but I agree: Your style needs to complement them. The dude above (who is too short for them, for starters) looks like he spent all his money on the shoes and forgot to purchase a bed. 😂

^^ Can’t speak for the other end of things, but giving their seal of approval to these weird looking fashion sneakers (& associated weird looking overpriced fashion clothes) was the last nail in the coffin for my ability to take Self Edge seriously

This looks like it could get lively!!

I'll be out on a limb here... but I think one of the RO models is quite nice (the low-top Austin has)

I know the fella who runs the allotment store which is stacked with RO stuff... and said hello to him once in there... and the RO stuff just isn't for me... it's not gothic enough 😀 ... joking aside, I definitely wouldn't go looking for it.  That said, each to their own.

Would I have noticed the pumps if SE hadn't advertised them?  No.

But let's face it many thousands of folks going back years wouldn't have originally noticed loads of nice stuff if SE hadn't set up shop and advertised it... so respect due for that imo

For those who may want some insight as to how a brand like Rick Owens ended up at Self Edge, this is a 5 year old article written by Derek Guy about it (featuring @sidneylo
