What about Jeans Jackets ....

cheapmuthafukr, I was going to say how much you look like Kenny Logins (no offense entented) in that first picture on pg 113 where you're sitting down... but forget all that now , this latest jacket of yours looks great and to me the fit is perfect. I can't quite get why everyone seems to want them super snug fitting. Anyway, good job.

On another note - After reading through just about this entire thread in the last couple of days, I see that their was initially alot of question about the denim used on the raw NON LVC type I jackets. Several of you guys bought them back in '07 and was asking if they were made from sanforized denim or not, and weren't sure if they would shrink and how they'd fade. Well I was hopeing someone here could give an update as they must have been soaked and washed a time or two by now. How 'bout it, anyone got one with some ageing on it?

Just e-mail Levi's, they'll know better than anyone else. But afaik all Type III/Trucker models have been in sanforized denim.

This is a type I (not that that would matter I suppose) and I've been under the impression that LVC's raw jackets were shrink to fit.Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Unless you ment all jean jackets made by levis (as opposed to LVC).

I'm pretty sure that type 1 is a non selvage non LVC version put out by levi's a couple seasons ago.

yes that's what I was thinking too, (mostly because of the longer length six buttons) but I was just hopeing that phive-oh-won would answer my question about shrinking, since I wrote my question not long after he posted the pics. Anyway, I don't hold much hope that a phone rep would know squat about this particular denim, especially from an item that's a few seasons old now. Though I was hopeing that one of the several folks here that got one would be willing to chime in on it.

I have the same non-LVC, non-selvage Type I bought at the Levis store in SF about 3 years ago. I asked the sales rep when I bought it if it was STF and he asked another sales rep, and they asked another and so on. The answer was "Yes, it was STF" but I don't have much confidence in that. I've soaked this jacket once in cold water and noticed no shrinkage, for what it's worth. It fits me nicely as is, so I do not want any extra shrinkage and I do not plan on doing a hot wash.

Thanks for the info, I was sort of hopeing that they were made from the STF501 denim and since they looked raw and unsanforized would act the same too. But the shrinking isn't the important thing, I'd be happy with one of these if it atleast faded like the modern STF501s. So maybe there's hope, yours look nice as does the other guys that posted a few spots back. thanks!

I have one of those - I managed to shrink it, but I did a hot soak, and I it did shrink up. It didn't loose much indigo, and in fact it still marks up other clothes.

Good news then, thanks. So maybe it is the same as modern STF501 denim afterall. Hot soak for a shrinking and a quick cold soaking otherwise. BTW, I'm considering one of these over an LVC version just because they're a tad longer but I'm undecided because I know the denim would be better with the LVC.

I have one. there was no noticeable shrinking when I cold washed it. the denim is not the same as modern STF. its waay darker. I don't ever wear it cause I think I look silly wearing it...probably cause they lengthened the torso so they could sell it to more people.

Levi's used to have a STF type3 jacket in their online store. now all they have is a black version. I would get the type3 stf over the type1-esque jacket they put out previously.

speaking of that black STF jacket, i was thinkin of getting that to have a cheap black denim jacket to beat around... website says 10percent shrinkage, but i tend to hot wash every raw denim garment i get.

(dramatic noob pause)

how to size on that jacket? i've got a 40 chest, but on most suit coats, i fit a 42 w/o tailoring because my GUT..

Medium is all they have left.. should i cop?

Hopefully a resident will chip in, but I remember a lot of good stores just beyond the University, and around Kensington Market; it's a few years ago now but I found an early 70s kids's 101J for about $15 canadian.

There's a well-established area of record and vintage stores - you could always get there and ask a student.

I just google'd vintage clothing Kensington Toronto and found this:

ON the subject of the modern versions of the 506, that denim does fade well. Most of the raw modern Levi's does; jackets maybe better than 501STF.

phive-oh-won, great looking jackets.

Is that first one a non-LVC version? If so, can you give us some info on the denim? Those were sold in raw denim but nobody knew if they'd shrink, fade etc. Thanks in advance..

I guess this has already been answered already, but I have the non-LVC version... I think I got it last winter. I haven't had any experience with shrinking, but I haven't washed it or soaked it yet. Also, the denim is darker and less stiff than the that of the 501's. stitching and hardware are the same though and I think it fades more interestingly than the 501's.

this next one shows the denim the best i think,...if you look at the denim at a certain angle , it almost looks like fuzzy felt...

and on this one i wanted to show the different denim material under the pocket flap, its a nice touch, dont think my camera caught it too well though...

Man, that's a nice looking jacket, love it ! Is that a chambrey under the pockets ? Either way that'd be a good idea.
