I had an N-1 and wore it while working construction a couple of winters ago. As others have mentioned, it was warm while standing still but absolutely awful to wear while working, and even worse when it got humid or rainy (of which it is both very often in seattle) to the point I said f**k it and gave it someone camping in the city one night. Probably much better suited for their use than mine! edit: also, I’ve asked this before but am still having a hard time finding anything. I’m looking for a 100% cotton, black work pant with a high rise and somewhat well-fitting leg. The sugar cane mountain cloth work pants are basically perfect except they only come in navy. Anyone have any other recommendations??3 points

@srudy Theoretically never... They are a good waist fit as is. I may be looking into dry cleaning, or some home remedy imitation of that. I'm also considering building some kind of wooden rack to preserve the length in the event that I need to turn the hose on them at some point of inevitability.3 points

Very glad you are happy with it @Well27 … I can see the leather develop a little - there’s an early stage where the tannery finish on the belt and the edge finish I apply start to dry and break. This is a good thing, the leather will start to ease and absorb oils and grease and dirt from wear and handling, then you’ll see the patina develop and the whole thing will become smoother and softer. Don’t baby the belt (don’t go easy) and don’t worry much about conditioning and the like - it really won’t need it for a very long time3 points

not much stuff to show on the life side of things. I've been to Brittany France to pick up a new flute. The guy who made it is an absolute character. He's close to retirement, and works as little as possible (and I don't blame him for that!). Never had a website, never had to promote himself much too. Makes beautiful, quirky, instruments, with a very nice design too. Great guy too. He lives in a very beautiful and remote area of north Brittanny. here's the man, I just edited his face as I think he wouldn't be very happy to be featured on a raw denim forum! pic of the machine itself (sorry WOM not featured!) this is perhaps my favourite detail. It's a knot in the wood, so it may be seen as a defect actually, but it looks like an eye, and it's on the outer side of the instrument. Reminds me of the eye of Sauron Released a new album too, just a couple weeks ago. It's here if anyone wants to give it a spin.3 points

@chicote I like these by Nuu, the artist formerly kniwn as tatsunosuke or Woods Mountain2 points

Colimbo, Cushman, maybe John Gluckow too. Are you open to duck canvas? That might give you more options, or some black chinos like the Buzz Rickson William Gibson pants?2 points

@Dr_Heech I stumbled upon those beautiful 1945 501's. just a link though, since I am not able to save the instagram pictures on my pc 🧐: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIpX_6vTVgT/?img_index=12 points

silhouette, pocket layout, 3d collar and fabric choice. most of all i’d say no design changes that dilute it compared to the gt version. no stupid silver zips like on the j1we, not to mention its j47a and not j47w.2 points

Great! We drove down to Port Aransas last weekend for a day trip, probably the furthest stretch I've taken it on so far besides going to Houston to visit my wife's family. I still get some mild range anxiety whenever I'm having to rely solely on public charging, but now that I have a NACS adapter that's a bit less of a concern. I'd love to take it on a longer road trip but that's not so easy with the little one. Could definitely see myself sticking with electric going forward. Here's a photo dump. Been pretty busy lately hence the absence from posting, but outside of dad duties I landed a new (fully remote!) job. This was a huge boost for my mental health, I really started hating my old role. Only was there for a year but I can safely say it was the worst job I've ever had. New company flew me up to Philly last week, wasn't there long but really enjoyed it. Never visited before but seems like I'll be back every quarter so I look forward to exploring more of it. Had my mom in for mother's day, been playing a bunch of golf lately. Saw a cool kei truck and some black bellied whistling ducks, and of course I've had some pizza. I'll work on getting some photos dedicated photos of the jeans soon, really enjoying them!2 points

We have a few various vintage threads and one dedicated to loopwheel stuff but I thought we could use one dedicated to the humble tee. Graphic or plain, vintage or new, share your favorites here. I'll start. Vintage Lake Whippoorwill Speedway Tee Thin knobby fabric, single stitch, no label but feels like 50/50.1 point

Oh man those are great! Thank you Michael! I'm not sure whether he ships internationally but will try and figure that out. Really appreciate it! @okimoto I'm open to duck canvas for sure, if the cut is right. I have about 8 yards of vintage black Carhartt fabric that I thought about using to make myself some pants if all else failed. If you have anything ready-made you know of i'd love to see though! @Double 0 Soul those tuf-nuts are really nice, definitely check all the boxes except for the poly blend ... i am a proud cotton-lover through and through ...1 point

Cross Over seems to have WWII jackets available in a couple of sizes if someone is interested and doesn't want to wait 15 months for one https://crossovers.shop/items/66f2898b59c112025b9c89fd1 point

Not so sufu oriented but I’d look at de bonne facture - I don’t know about right now but I’m almost positive I’ve seen them make this before. If this is a pant that’s gonna get thrashed at work though, then I wouldn’t because they’re too nice for that.1 point

I have a couple N-1 jackets -- RMC and Iron Heart. The former is beautiful, but the latter is more practical, with the fur in the right places (pockets but not sleeves). Had the FW before the IH, but sold it (arms too narrow). As you've all said, an N-1 is very warm, like a blanket with buttons.1 point

I was lucky enough to have @Duke Mantee make me a belt before he closed up shop. I wanted something a bit simple, so went with a brown colour and an vintage buckle with a muted finish. Since it was a MTO belt and I had seen the skills which he makes his belts with, I decided to have an “A” detail made and placed on the belt so it would sit on my left hip. (My family’s names all start with A) I’ve been wearing it for a week or more and are really pleased!1 point

I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it, the fabric is the same Master Shield as the Urbanite and Sasquatch jackets but it's not lined. While being 100% cotton and breathable, it's very lightweight, windproof / waterproof* (up to a point), I'd love to find out more information about how it's actually made.1 point

Drying after first real machine wash. Couple washes to this point but all done by hand. Probably no more of that. First photo is probably most accurate color. No real combs but signs of a little fraying on back of the knee where the crease is, haha. Summer is coming and soon as it is hot will probably be washing these fairly often.1 point

I did like my N-1 but they’re just impractical, perfect for what they’re designed for, standing onboard the deck of a cold ship.. but start moving around and you sweat like crazy, especially where the fur meets your neck.. you end up unbuttoned them to let the heat out, not ideal when it’s raining.. but like much of this mil-repro, it’s ideal for playing dress up, but doesn’t stand up against modern materials when you actually use it.1 point

Also feeling behind as I only wear them about 2-3 hours a day, but I there's enough time to catch up! Like our friend volvo, I'm happy with how things have set and will be washing more frequently now as honestly I'm looking for more even fades, similar to vintage pairs here and here. Some updates though, post wash last night:1 point

Vintage Stedman brand 1989 Betty Page t shirt 50/50 poly/cotton t shirt XL The art is by Steve Woron but seems to be vaguely inspired by Dave Stevens' Rocketeer comics. Another massively oversized t shirt. This started out life in my best friends collection but somehow I ended up finding it in a box wrapped around a die cast model of a Delorean. Didn't wear it much due to size.1 point
