My next door neighbour (who was born in Hackney) gave my son some 80s / 90s era vintage footy shirts a few months ago.. he's not really into football but he does like the attention.. he was walking through the park wearing a purple Tottenham Hotspur shirt from the 90s with a pair of baggy Levi's and some Jordans.. a runner ran past and shouted "Up the Spurs" to him. I'll tell ya' what, Spotify / apple et al.. have completely ruined the 'album' as an artform, my kid has had a pair of fancy headphones perma stuck to his head for the last year or so.. before that it was airpods.. he's never not listening to music.. evn when we're playing tennis, he's wearing headphones I hear a tune he's playing by whoever and say.. "Have you listened to any of their albums" "No, just this song and maybe one other" "I've got all their albums on CD.. check out such n' such album.. it's incredible" "Are all the songs as good as this one" "Well no, that's probably the standout track of the album, but it's a body of work by that artist, evn the track listing will have been carefully considered" .. "So it's 10 tracks and 9 of them are not as good as this one" "Yes that's correct, a couple of them could even be shite but that's not the point" .. "So then Dad.. with all the incredible music in the world, you want me to spend time listening to music which isn't as good as the music i'm listening to now, just because it's on an album?" "Yes exactly"8 points

Thanks for the welcome @Double 0 Soul! I’m a couple years younger than most of you fellas, so traditional forums like this were once a bit foreign to me. After being on all the big social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, tumblr, twitter) heavily as youth, I ditched it all around the time I graduated high school. Reddit was really the only social media platform I interacted with and how I eventually found this place (from the cesspool that is the raw denim subreddit.) I think @beautiful_FrEaK or @shredwin_206 mentioned SuFu over there, I was delighted to find people who were not only much more knowledgeable, but could actually dress well posting here. It only took a couple of months of lurking for me to decide to bite the bullet and pay the initiation fee, you guys are such a wealth of information and entertainment that I feel the 10 bucks is truly worth it (though it’s cost me just a bit more than that in jeans!) As for how I got into denim, I’ve always enjoyed clothes. I got my first pair of raw jeans in high school during the APC/size down craze, a pair of 511s that never really fit me how I wanted (I couldn’t size down, I actually used to size up to fit my calves and quads.) I tried a couple other slim-fit budget pairs over the years (Uniqlo, Naked and Famous) but I couldn’t get the fit right. Eventually as the slim-fit started to fall out of fashion, I realized that higher rises fit me better. I started wearing old 501s almost exclusively, and after a couple of years I got bored of basically being restricted to mid and light wash jeans. I decided it was time for a pair of raw denim and headed into the city, after Self Edge had nothing that fit me in my price range they recommended I go over to 3sixteen, where the classic straight fit was perfect for me. They were my only jeans for a good while, getting worn to the office occasionally and on weekends, but eventually my will power gave out. I recently caved and have acquired a few pairs of 40s repros 😂8 points

Happy with how these have shrunk. Washed at 40, low spin. Great weather for drying jeans too. Waist has shrunk 2 inches. Inseam 3 inches. The denim is a vibrant blue which I was expecting with the 60s. But it's also quite neppy which I wasn't expecting so chuffed about that. Might put a reddit post up with all the measurement photos at some point.7 points

I'm still an avid collector of records. I don't know how many thousands I have at this point. Everything from 1950s Rockabilly 45s to blues and jazz 78rpms from the 1920s-1940s, and tons of LPs (10inch and 12inch) covering various 'vintage genres'. I've never been much of an organizer so finding anything specific can be a challenge. The only segment of the collection I'm still intimately familiar with is a section of about 600 LPs that I shipped from England when I decided that the US would be my permanent home. I suppose the fact that those 600 LPs were so intensely and voraciously devoured during my formative years means that they're permanently seared upon my consciousness. But frankly at this pint in my life this huge collection feels like a bit of an albatross. Sometimes I'm tempted to get rid of the lot. Then I start imagining myself ten years from now, spending more time at home and getting back into actually listening to, rather than just accumulating records. Then I wonder if I'm trying to recapture something from my youth that in reality has gone never to return? I remember being so fascinated by my parents' record player, one of those wood console type things that always seemed to be on the fritz, and the handful of cool looking albums that my dad would play (Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads comes to mind). One Christmas they got me a small player of my own. Best present ever...The sheer magic of intently absorbing those particular musical sounds that fascinated me. I truly had the bug. I started accumulating and never stopped. Now I'm left wondering if I've lost the capacity to sit through a side of an LP and enjoy it. So many available distractions... Lift the needle off while I listen to 30 seconds of something else on youtube...Maybe it's not just kids whose attention spans are being 'evolved' by technology?6 points

My boy buys records, he is building a small collection. when we visit city’s, he always seeks out record stores, most of the time we end up in nice neighborhoods that way. in Paris he became all budy budy with the shop owner. i guess he was happy to see a young kid diving in the crates5 points

I’ve been lurking since about 18 months. Though I also think I must have come across this site 15 years ago when I was in high school and somehow stumbled across Evisu. I never ended up getting any, likely due to price and confusion about raw denim. Or maybe I just realized they would be very out of place in my rural farm town and I most probably wouldn’t have been able to pull them off. Sometimes I wish I had gone for it. For some years I have been drawn toward more conscious consumption, mostly interested in pursuing products made in the US. However, I never felt I could afford to. I ended up just not really buying clothes for most of Covid (I’ve been the same size since high school). In researching for my Christmas list for my mother in 2023, I came across madeindex.com, which led me to some American denim brands, which led me to Heddels, r/rawdenim, and ultimately here. I bought for myself a pair of Tellason Stock (non-selvedge) during the Black Friday sale. I wish I had spent more time with that pair and kept lurking and learning before buying more, but over the next few months I backed a Gustin campaign, bought a like new pair of Left Field NYC, bought and sold a pair from 3sixteen, and fell victim to Oni Crushed Concrete hype. I don’t fully regret those purchases, but I’ve taken the last year to wear what I have and keep learning from you all! Still haven’t figured out what I might want next, and not sure I have a lot to contribute, but I appreciate the community. Thanks to all of you for the thoughtful denim and non-denim conversation!5 points

I guess it depends on the artist's approach on how they want to go about promoting themselves and what's working for them but the album format is still very relevant on the music industry side if you're trying to get a record deal, write ups, articles, reviews, schedule a tour, etc because companies and people working in the music industry still put a lot of value on you having an album to promote which then they can release songs steadily ahead of the release. This may all change as things continue to evolve and younger people who grew up in this new era of music but from conversations I've had when I was talking to labels and companies about releasing music I've worked on and also hearing some friends now who are in process of negotiating their own deals, the album is still very relevant.4 points

I totally understand mate, my son is of a similar ilk. He was telling me and the Mrs the other day about his 'two styles' - baggy streetwear or dad vintage 😂 but would like to extend this to several more 'styles' (whatever they may be) but due to a lack of funds is happy to accept any and all of my old clobber. I've given him an array of t-shirts and tops, mostly old TKmaxx finds from 15-20 years ago. I gave him a levis sherpa and a 70s CWU 45P flight jacket. More recently, after a sudden interest in outdoor wild camping, he inherited the tent before also getting a vintage Berghaus Shadow 60+ rucksack plus all the necessary equipment and a pair of almost brand new but 15+ years old Vibram-soled walking boots so he's doing alright by me. Forgot to mention, also dug out an old, but still great Karrimor hiking waterproof jacket. Despite a long conversation about old clothes, quality decline Mills shutting down and the rise of the reproduction scene some 30 or so years ago, my son can appreciate the quality decline as he's a bit of a thrifter although brings back some dubious items, but otherwise it is information that is outdated and useless as far as he's concerned. The other day he came home with some used baggy bleach wash no name (imo) jeans with some fucking cherubs stitched on the back pocket 🙃 but hey ho.4 points

No trauma for me Neal, simply thinning out the herd of a few pairs of too- small, hardly worn jeans was a blessing. Plus l get to see them being worn and they are getting some much needed love again. The raw lvc 1937s put by for his birthday? - l've owned and worn an identical pair back around 2007-2009 and they faded great but l'm not a great fan of the arcs. I have enough jeans for now 🙂4 points

Thanks Double 00 I also joined due to the friendly and familiar(?) tone in this forum. This is the first and only time a have an online present, but I got so much from the forum so I wanted to contribute with what little denim knowledge/experience I have my origin story I posted in another thread, but here it is: " I’ve always been interested in clothes, doing the vintage 70’ies hippie style in my teens, then more streetwear and skateboard style the first part of my 20’s. When I finally had some money finishing uni, I was in a rut. Now I had money but felt too old for streetwear and did not really like the prep or business style. Luckily I had a great colleague who one day brought me 4 pair of his old selvage jeans for me to have, and then I was hooked! This is now 6 years ago and I’m been reading here the last 4 years, due to the purchase of the FC 1110XX which has the red tab and arcs, but when I found photos of the model elsewhere there were no arc or tabs – then superfuture taught me why. " Bonus info: What made me sign up, was because I wanted a belt from duke (received it yesterday!) and I thought the denim blunders was fun and wanted to chime in once in a while4 points

So... to add a bit of spice to the #WoMCon, our very own @Duke Mantee has only gone and made this cracking mini trucker wallet as a prize. What you say. What indeed. Anyone who knows Mike will know what a kind, generous, top bloke he is... this is just another example... massive thanks mate!!! The wallet will be awarded as a prize to the contestant who provides the most posting entertainment over the contest duration. That's it. So it's posting and shenanigans ftw!! It'll be judged by @Maynard Friedman, @Duke Mantee and Simone. Maynard will kindly organise the vote and announce the winner at the same time as the overall contest winner. I now have that ^ wallet in my possession... and it's a beauty!!! Good luck folks!!!4 points

From my perspective Charlie, he just wouldn't appreciate them, he wants his jeans to be baggy af and look hella' fly.. beyond that he doesn't really care for the details.. he cares even less for Levi's or their associated history so to give him a pair of jeans which carefully reproduce this history is lost on him.. The equivalent would be a philatelist giving me a collectable stamp.. Ooh! look at this one from the postal union congress.. the perforations are simply exquisite! Pfft! I don't give a shit.. lick it and slap it on a letter for all i care.3 points

Ridiculously kind mate … you clearly have no idea who you’re dealing with. Although I’ve not posted much, I’ve been watching competition closely. There’s been some great evo already and a lot of brilliant posts so it’s going to the wire to see who has pulled out all the stops … maybe we can add another prize3 points

All of the above. In my home city the rap scene was a pioneer of the mixtape - something less formal than an album. Singles and collaborations are huge obv, lots of producers make their name on just that and don’t even put out an album for years. I think an album is now sort of looked at as a bigger and more conceptual creative achievement, and people still put out vinyl and CDs and cassettes but now they are all options as opposed to the official way to release music.2 points

Spotify recs can be great, but they tend to prioritize their “curated” playlists (quotes because the term is generous) and many of those are filled with artists that they commission music from at really low licensing fees, esp the ones that focus on electronic, ambient and other instrumental sorts of tunes. As with most things tech, Spotify was better in their early days when they were just trying to grow and started to suck more once aggressive monetization started. The point is to keep users on the app with the tunes but minimize the licensing payments which are already paltry to established artists. You can make your own playlists on Spotify and not really encounter this but most users who are on the app long enough tend to get lazy at some point and let Spotify feed them and that’s where this tends to start. It’s not all bad of course, I pretty much only get music from streaming and old school radio these days. Gave away my entire CD collection years ago during a move and haven’t much regretted it. I still have an old downloaded collection and would like to download some more from bandcamp etc but organizing a new digital music library is not on the horizon for me.2 points

I've never used a streaming service so i don't actually know how it all works.. i still download lots and i'm a massive fan of the 'mixtape' format for music playing around the house but for actual 'sit down an listen'.. i'm still using CD format and i'll play an album. The offspring grew up with this music environment.. he always used to ask "who's this? i'll add it to my Spotify" so i would say.. if you like that.. you'll like this.. and i'd email him mp3 playlist from my itunes library which he'd play and add to his Spotify playlist if he liked it.. i've also got a few old 30G ipods (the batteries are dead but they still work plugged in) which he picks through so his Spotify was built around strong foundations rather than generic playlists. Nowadays.. i hear stuff coming through his headphones.. yesterday it was an Mc Solaar track which i hadn't heard so it's me saying "who's this you're listening to? " .. it cuts both ways i suppose. . Solaar wasn't one of mine so Spotify suggestions can't be all bad.. but as i say, i don't know how it works so correct me if i'm wrong.. he just has zero interest in searching out albums or back catalogues..2 points

66s have arrived from Bears today. Will shrink them in the wash this weekend. I was worried the rise might be a tad to short but they are measuring 12 inch FR and 16 inch BR for 36 size so think will be fine. Waist is big and hopefully will shrink 2 inches but prefer to have them a bit loose and wear a belt anyway. Liking the wee extras with these. Probably will use that tote bag a lot. Impressed so far2 points

Snagged these 22501XX from @srudy last month, and by chance started wearing them on 5/01 day I love this denim and lucked out on the fit - they fit me as good as anything else ever has The cut is real good in contrast to the "22501" cut I had some years back - and at a tagged 34 they measure about 31" after a shrink That's barely 1" larger post shrink than the tagged 28 waist "22501" (a different cut but 6 tagged sizes smaller...) Not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but a WW2 501 jean under the same umbrella having such a massive disparity in sizing is... interesting!2 points

Post-wash (maybe no. 4?) The way these are fading is funny. I agree with the building consensus that they seem to have shed a lot of indigo right at the start and then slowed down to a much more normal rate, which I appreciate. That said, something’s still different. Almost all of my slimmer-fitting jeans end up with pretty much the same pattern of whiskers, and these still have very little to speak of in that department. Meanwhile, the outer-most yarns covering the hidden rivets are already wearing through (one of my favorite bits of aging on any jeans), which usually takes years for me. Maybe it’s the jeans, or maybe my lifestyle has just changed in the past year in more ways than I’ve noticed. I'll be really interested to see where they end up. Two issues showing up so far, one very minor and one less so: The yoke seam wasn’t folded great during construction (or maybe there just wasn’t quite enough allowance), and it’s opening and fraying a bit near the right outseam; and and one of the hidden rivets has come partially undone. Rivet failures have always been a real pet peeve of mine, since they’re supposed to be the last thing holding the jeans together, and a hidden rivet failure is all the more frustrating since it’s not one that’s straightforward to replace at home. Not a huge deal, in the end—it’s not like the pocket’s going to be falling off anytime soon—but it does feel like a shame.2 points

I was a bit hesitant at first about the vertical fading. But with FWs one can trust that things will looking aesthetically. And with the fading pics here, foremost by fader extraordinaire @shredwin_206, my concerns were allayed and I got a pair as I was curious what their WWII denim was like. And I wasn't disappointed. Neither by the cut. Wearing them feels really good.2 points

Warehouse 800xx in 32, I believe they were about 81-82cm in the waist and shrunk down to 74 stretched back out to 80 in one day. I wore many slim straight pairs, Fullcount 1108, iron heart 666, flathead 3009, pbj, momotaro etc, they all stretched and sagged below my hips. These are really nice because the high rise allows my belt to sit above my hips and prevents any sagging. the denim is very rough and uncomfortable compared to the nice Zimbabwe cotton in other brands, I’m eager to break these things in hard like my flatheads. I’m going to avoid putting my cell phone and wallet in the rear pockets as it seems to promote too much stretching in the seat of the jeans.2 points
