Happily my pair landed, even much earlier in than the day than I'd have thought. Got a quick try on - I think these will be good. I'm too lazy for measurements - I tend to just try em on and if I feel I've sized well enough I just leave it alone and trust that whatever math I did upon ordering had some coherence to it. I have some room in the waist, it will likely be a little snug up there post wash but I think will stretch back out nicely - I don't need it to stretch back out to raw. The rest of the pants seem to have room to shrink all over, but nothing crazy. The length is the wildcard - room to cuff or not? Probably a little... I'd agree on the TCB/Ooe spectrum - my pair seems quite nicely made, pocket bags seem about just right sized - stitching isn't Ooe level tidiness but with some snips I think it would be pretty close, and I also think that's not so much the intent anyways. Really pretty much just as I'd hoped for a raw 30's pair. Simone did a nice job and knowing it's going to a one man operation I think these are worth every penny. Shame I can't get into it until the weekend!14 points

Have a feeling these will be one of my best fitting pairs, despite sizing up to size 40! As for the denim itself, I think they'll be fairly fast faders, something about the crunchiness that's hard to explain, but something I think we all intuitively understand having handled dozens (if not hundreds) of pairs over the years 😆 Construction is on par for what I'd expect for someone emulating 1942's (I went with 411S), a little shoddy here and there in a good way, I think he did a great job! Also a big fan of the hardware used, particularly the hidden rivets on my 42's. It's been a while since I've had a new pair, but this really invigorates my love for the hobby again. I'd place them somewhere between TCB and Ooe on the vibes chart, closer to TCB but with a bit more personality. Will run them through the hot cycle twice and air dry. Probably going to avoid the dryer in general this time around if they crock as fast as I'm expecting and also want to go for a more 40's vintage fades look this go around. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6s4sbRPF_6/?img_index=312 points

Thanks @Broark At all: I have opened the picture thread. I want to see some action there tomorrow!3 points

That's definitely a collector's item. I wouldn wear them, the value will increase! (one guy less to beat for the win of the contest...)3 points

I got my 220a hemmed by Son of a Stag here in the UK and feel like they did a great job. I'm liking the fit more now as found cuffing them twice or japanese turn up too much especially with boots and didn't wear them as much. Maybe that's just me though. Would have been nice if they had used a lemon coloured thread but not too fussed for £20. Lost some nice roping but imagine after a few washes that will be back.3 points

I measured mine, which is spot on to Simo's pre-soak measurements. Good job! I was hoping to hot wash and dry, but they fit tighter than I was hoping for (user holiday weight probably), so maybe just a warm wash and a hang dry for starters...2 points

The 47s are quite ‘normal’ in the rise. I’m wearing them now. Nothing unusual about them to report.2 points

Here it is, the "Official Contest Thread" Thanks to @reallypeacedoff we have this map to see where these jeans will be worn. Please post your RAW/DRY/RIGID picture of the jeans with a newspaper or another method to show the date in this thread. Afterwards you are good to go. Soak, wash or wear them how you like. 18 months later we will use this thread to showcase the final results! Keep the banter and journey of the jeans in the original thread. There is no mandatory monthly update. We trust you guys to wear these jeans in good health. The judges will detect any cheating anyway1 point

What’s everyone’s initial thought on the denim? The overall construction looks really well done, and pre-soak fits all look great. Looking forward to following along 👍1 point

Magically, mine is now slated for delivery today. However - the snow is coming down at the moment and my local isn't always spot on with the delivery day. Since I'll be out of town tomorrow I'm realistically thinking I get to start over the weekend, possibly Monday. I'm slightly fluffier than I when I ordered, but hoping I allowed for enough room (maybe not!) and would prefer to shrink the piss out of them on the first go, but I won't be machine drying - I don't tend to do that until I'm like 4-5 washes in, if at all. Still on the fence about how I'll go with this pair, it depends on the fit, really.1 point

@Alec Leamas Yes my tracking is saying the same finally! If they also make it into my house without being stolen off the doorstep I'll be starting on Wednesday...1 point

The Dispossessed is one of the greatest books ever. UKLG is my favorite author, and the whole Hainish Cycle is wonderful. That cover art is so good. Been reading some Chandler too lately, but the Lady in the Lake is still on my TBR list. Picked up a couple older editions of some of his books at a used bookstore I like near me.1 point

^ The 1947s?? Aren’t they cut pretty regular? I think of the S601xx as the higher rise option1 point

Let us know how you feel about the extreme rise. never thought I’d find a pair that has too high of a rise until these …1 point

We could make the other thread a picture only thread. Like everybody posts their start picture there and their final pictures as well. Everything else will be deleted by the mods (Maynard, Broark or me). Good idea?!1 point

Also not sure this all will count as "iconic", but my mom got a film scanner for Christmas last year and scanned a ton of my grandpas old family photos. A few stood out to me where they were wearing some beautiful blue jeans. This was Wyoming in the early 50s. I mentioned to my grandpa how much those old jeans were worth and he laughed, mentioned how much he hated wearing shrink to fits because his mom would always get him and his brother the same size no matter what size they needed. See: picture two, top buttons looking a little tight...1 point

Nice restoration. There is a guy near use who specializes in acquiring and restoring mid century furniture. We’ve gotten a few things from him in the last couple of years. Something that I enjoy collecting are vintage pulp paperbacks. I especially like ones with Robert McGuinness or McGuiness-inspired cover art. When we find ourselves in a bigger city, we make a point to stop at a local used bookstore to browse the mystery and Sci-fi section. Most of our collection has been had at a couple bookstores in Twin Cities as well as Ann Arbor/Detroit. We have nearly the entire Travis McGee series and most Lew Archer series paperbacks now. Some of my favorites are below.1 point

Not a coffee nerd but my brother is and after I expressed a tiny bit of interest in fancy coffee he went and bought me an aeropress for Christmas so now I gotta learn how to use this thing lol. Afraid I might become one of you guys.1 point

I'm a bit of a coffee nerd. I brew mostly with a Hario V60 but sometimes Chemex, using a Fellow Stagg kettle and a 1ZPresso K-Max grinder. It's a pretty simple setup, but gets tasty results without much effort. Thank goodness I've never been particularly into espresso. My go-to roasters here on the east coast US are George Howell (Boston) and Black And White (North Carolina.) Currently drinking Howell's Dota, a Costa Rican light roast I've gone back to over and over. I tend to prefer washed or natural process coffees with some combination of chocolatey, berry, or wine flavor notes. I'm not a big fan of the various wacky and weird anaerobic process flavors that are in vogue for the last few years, to me this is like the coffee equivalent of 25 oz hyper-slub rainbow weft gimmick denim.1 point

I like the Parker Knoll Statesman chairs. So I contacted a local upholsterer to ask if she'd be able to re-upholster one if I could find a chair. Better than that she said, I have just got hold of a knackered one to refurbish... the chance coincidence was too good to give up. Given the state the original was in, it was basically a new build based around the original frame. The twisting mechanism had to be repaired and is 'vintage rickety' which adds character methinks. There was fun and games with the fabric... the first boucle fabric sample held onto everything and was a nightmare to clean so that had to be replaced with new fabric... anyhow the job was finished in Dec 2023 so the chair's been in use over a year now and part of the family... Final pic there including recently received copy of Mongrel Kampung by our very own @oomslokop1 point

So BOT is opening online orders later this month. I was told they could ship internationally if I did a bank transfer. Current with time is 15 months. I'll probably pass because that wait is a little long for me. They also changed their name to Beyond of Trust.1 point
