Thanks guys! Mother and child are both well and will leave the hospital tomorrow (or rather I will pick them up). Baby/dad fades will certainly happen 😉 I will go with the 1942 version he offers. One size up from my 411. If anyone has questions, please ask them here in this thread. Simone is watching it 😉 and @MJF9 will pick it up with him.12 points

Vintage 1922 Levi's 501XX on Marvin's. These are the earliest belt looped 501xx - so basically a c.1915-1921 501xx that still have the hand-tooled looking rivet heads, which between c1922 and c.1926 gradually changed to become the more standard round-topped rivet heads we all normally associate with 501's. They also have the first gen shorter belt loops made with shirt weight denim, which gradually lengthened over the decade plus concave suspender buttons and unbranded bullseye style fly buttons. These last two details disappeared around c.1926/27, the same year the redline was introduced. What strikes me most is the beautiful pattern of wear over time but also that someone went to the trouble of cutting out the centre part of the two horse patch, so that it didn't shrivel out in the sun or through shrinkage, and become uncomfortable for the wearer. I'm obviously guessing this last part but they are a thing of beauty in my eyes and to think they are roughly 100 years old. Not many wearable clothes that old. Off to get a lottery ticket 😁 Obviously a double cuffer too!9 points

A couple photos of the 220XX-47 fabric in the sun at the weekend and one from today, it’s developing at quite the pace and the fit is evolving nicely too. Lovely pair of jeans. Real classic “jeans” jeans, one might say. I haven’t quite captured it here but there is a brownness to the reverse side of the fabric.8 points

A little update before I go quiet: This contest will be judged by a crème de la crème of Sufu guys. We will announce them soon. We still have open spots to join but a special person will join as well (the person above is the special person). More important dates will be communicated later.7 points

Ah, good to know. I'm overdue a visit actually. Was funny - had a guy round to do the pointing on the rear of our house and on arriving he said "Nice sweatshirt - is that from Clutch Cafe"? Turns out he was as obsessed as I was and we spent the week chatting about clothes. 🤣6 points

I finally started wearing my S40s jeans from the original run, they're awesome jeans I've never been premeditated about how I plan to wear my jeans, but after looking through the final submissions from the contest I might be washing them a lot. Just throwing them in the hamper with my socks, etc.5 points

Deposit sent and congrats b_F! Also planning to join the 30s gang. I've been wanting to try jeans with a cinch for a long while4 points

But think of all those marvellous, and unusual, fades from nappy accidents (including yours); food stains; reflux and/or just a good old vomit; and you crawling about the place generally … Huge congratulations to mum and the family4 points

11 month old DD-1004XX (1922) fresh out of a wash and dry. These were a bit hard to get into, but after their 5th wash and dry, they finally fit perfectly. Gotta love the “dad knee” where my left knee is more faded, and if you look closely, my right thigh is a bit more faded above the knee from kneeling to talk with my son.4 points

That pair is definitely a top 10 for me. Hits all my favorite details. I think that the patch probably fell off voluntarily. The uniformity of color behind the patch makes me think that the patch was intact for most of the time the jeans were worn. The lack of any creasing, due to a shrunken patch pulling on the denim, means that they weren’t washed that often? All conjecture, I know.3 points

Congrats @beautiful_FrEaK my friend! What a way to commemorate/kick start this contest!3 points

The current double-numbered models may all be DSB, but in general they’ve been doing double-numbered models since long before DSB came out—my black jeans from ca. 2010 are labeled 1001xx (1000)3 points

The 1001XX seems to come out every couple months or so, sometimes. The Warehouse production schedule is famously mysterious, the answer from shops when asked if they'll get a restock is "it arrives when it arrives". Depending on where you are in the world and how willing you are to ship long distance or pay customs / other fees there are a few sizes of the 1001XX in banner denim here: https://unionatease.official.ec/items/59779427 or here: https://sonofastag.com/products/warehouse-1001xx-original-13-75oz-regular-straight-jean-raw?_pos=5&_fid=1a2157acb&_ss=c The 1001XX (1000XX) versions are not the same fit - they're iterations of the style based on the time period in the model, like 1947 for that one you linked to. They're usually (I think always) in the Deadstock Blue denim as well, which is somewhat different to the banner denim, again impacting the fit and the style. If you're after the banner denim specifically, my recommendation and personal favourite cut in that denim is the 25th anniversary 1001XX, which is still available here: https://thesignetstore.com/collections/warehouse/products/mens-trousers-25th-anniversary-1950-model As you can see it's described as more of a 50's cut. It also has the back pocket arcs, which is a nice feature to have on banner denim, much like the DD-1001XX 1947.3 points

b_F are there any better quality images of the size charts available? I can kind of make out the numbers, but they look pretty blurry specifically the 611 chart (even when opening the image in a new tab). And doc I've got plenty of cinch back jeans so I think a cinchless '42 is a nice change of pace even if it might be somewhat sacrilegious.2 points

Silverstones. These were a wide cut when they were originally jeans but they draped weird without any cuff length so l chopped them. Not sure if the thread is cotton, poly or a mix of(?) but it looks cool faded. My phone won't do the denim any justice but the detail pics show the true colour more. The red tab just has a woven S on it inside a circle in white, reminiscent of the R only tab that was introduced in the mid 50's. Obviously l've customised the original back pocket design to fit in with my more favoured aesthetic 😉2 points

Picked up a pair of 1001XX (1000XX) 1953's off Mercari via FromJapan (sidenote I have only recently dived in there and deary me there's truly a wealth of great stuff there!!!) I had been after these for a while, even pondering getting some for UK retail and they literally sold out as I was in the final stages of deciding / faffing - a blessing in disguise! Bit of an odd one as the hem looked unwashed, yet there is some light wear elsewhere, they're in great condition anyway. Looks as though I might be the 3rd owner and the 2nd owner had them hemmed but then changed their mind or something like that. Super pleased with these, typical DSB neppy softness. I also love the details on the 1953 pair - multicoloured stitching throughout and the visible fabric folded over on the pocket corners is a nice little touch I've not seen on any other WH pairs. Don't think I've seen the DSB 1953's shared here so adding a few pictures. Couple outside in the sun shots and some indoor ones - the true colour of the fabric is somewhere between the outside and inside shots, those who have seen new ish DSB fabric will know the type, it's definitely the same version of the fabric as my 1000XX.2 points

517's from circa 1975. Single Stitch back pockets, earlier orange poly cotton stitching, earlier type bar tacking on back pockets, 3% shrinkage on inner label indicating sanforized denim. Overlock stitching on non-selvedge busted seam (something that was used on sanforized denim by levis since c.1960) - but has been forever folded over so no train tracks Bar-tacking on belt loops is as wide as the belt loop itself so a pre 1977 feature. It has LS2109 stamped on the front right pocket bag (?)2 points

Pair of redline 501's made in 1978. 8% shrinkage on the wash tag (changed to 10% around '80/81) and no white internal stitching around crotch/front pockets/yoke so definitely late 1970s. Also poly-cotton looks different, not so orangey/nylony as the early 80s poly. Bar tacking on back pockets is from earlier gen redlines as it's a lylaccy-grey, rather than dark blue/black, and looks more cotton than poly-cotton. Bar-tacking across belt loops is wider, although not as wide as the Bar tacking on pre-1978 501's. Double lock-stitch on the inside of the back pockets so just after the switch from the Single Stitch redline model (1974-77). Lastly, oxidisation on the button fly also visible on the denim button hole. Number 6 on the button back which corresponds to the label. The number 6 apparently belongs to the 3 california. factories Lovely roping!2 points

Well worn pair of early eighties redline 501's. Has the same 10% shrinkage as the last pair, visible on the wash tag, as well as the date of manufacture. Again with black flag bar tacking and the short span of bar tacking across the belt loop, but there is no extra circle on the reverse of the rivet (although still white stitching on the inside but only around the coin pocket). As before another 524 buttoned 501 redline, made at the EL Paso factory but this pair made in 1981. Nice roping too!2 points

Just a small distraction from the excitement of the WoM contest crew and their future plans. It's a bit like when BBC2 puts on a film for those who are bored of the Olympics on BBC1 😉 Anyways, l've posted these items below before - All used to be jeans owned by me: XX jeans and XX shorts, 2x pairs of V stitch Big E shorts (that were once jeans) and a donor big E waist chain daisy Duke shorts. Once the Big E jeans were too trashed, my Mrs made shorts out of them. We still keep all these bits as keepsakes from Our bygone era (1990s). But whilst rooting around l also found three pairs of redlines, a pair of 505's and a pair of 517's which haven't seen the light of day for quite a while and certainly haven't been posted before, so l thought l'd share them as there's a few 1980's 501 fans in here... Ps. I have no control over the photo orientation, it seems Sufu still has a mind of its own, despite preemptive editing.2 points

Dark pair of 501 redlines sz 30x38 (so 1501 0117, The 1 prefix being the code for 38 inch leg length). Made in 1983, has the 'black-flag' type of bar tack, more prevalent in the 1981-84 period. Extra circle on the reverse of the rivet indicates early 80s also. Notice the short bar tack strip attaching the belt loop to the jean. White stitching around the inside vertical or horizontal yoke indicates 1982 onwards. Date on the inside wash tag is March '83. The denim changed gradually around 1977-79 and this denim has the more eighties bulkier/fluffier feel to it than the distinct vertical fading of the late 1970s.1 point

A week in Sarajevo… incoming double post… do look away if it’s too many pics! Some quick snaps of my Warehouse 1922 501XX jeans (1914 'belt loop model) and the 1927 506XX blouse after a wash. The jeans have had their second wash after about a year or so of actual wear. The blouse/jacket has had its first wash only after about 6 months of actual wear. Click on the image twice for clarity. Not sure why the images turned out such a lighter blue, just taken them outside under cloud. Will ask the Mrs to take a fit pic when she's down later in the week so may bring out the depth of the denim more(?) These were my first Warehouse items, really loving this unique denim and its characteristics but it does seem to fade faster than any denim l've previously owned. [edit] Don't understand why the first 2 images are on their side as l haven't changed anything about them. They are all standard photos taken one after the other. Fkin sufu😠1 point
