Sugar Cane Denim

Well Maynard, funny you say that… trying to get that funky (platonic) foursome together was a proper nightmare, I tell thee… and it wasn’t for the want of trying.  Firstly, the ladies couldn’t agree on where to eat.  Traceeeeeey / Julie / Debs can only slurp soup through a straw, until she gets her new false choppers.  Mavis, bizarrely, is a Leicester City fan and kept quoting Jamie Vardy ‘I don’t like foreign food so I just stick to pizza and chinese'... and, to top it all, Neal was pinging me saying ‘I’m wearing my M41001 and CSF as I found them so you’ll have to wear Freewheelers otherwise we’ll look daft'... hard to believe... I know... it sounds like I'm making it all up...

Alternatively, our Betty is looking at Neal’s grail jeans and denim jacket from a different perspective, mistaking him for an unemployed waster, spending all his universal credit on luxury build your own Morrison’s pizzas. She considers him a potential excellent socio-demographic match and also a bit devil-may-care exciting.

One week I asked for jalapeños (you have to pronounce it with a strong J at Morrisons or they haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about) then she said.. “is this one for you?” “Ooh.. I can tell you like it a bit spicy “ and winked..

Im sorry? what?

Betty has studied Neal's pizza-buying patterns so carefully... she can now predict what'll he'll buy... and personally french kisses all his toppings before he visits... more reasons to shop at Morr-isons :)

^ damn. This probably makes no sense since I’ve internalized $250 being worth it for a pair of jeans sometimes, and more even for jackets - but I can’t make that jump with a whole lot else. Those are some pricey shirts! I’d be checking my local thrift store first… how value is so subjective.

This is veering pretty far off the Sugar Cane topic, but you might find this article interesting. It wouldn't hurt to contact Original Madras Trading Company for a length of their cloth. They are probably the source for most of the fabrics in your links.

@indigoeagle O'Connell's is one of the last remaining major independent shops for American trad clothing. Their knitwear is great, especially their Shetlands which I believe are made by Laurence Odie and are really heavy and full of lanolin scent. I would have some myself but I've struggled to get the sleeve length that I need in a reasonable chest size so the ones that I own are from elsewhere

^ I have a couple pairs of boxers from O’Connell’s that are nice enough, but it should be noted that they seem to use polyester stitching for many of their main line of clothes, for whatever that’s worth

The fake SugarCane jeans have reached Yahoo Auction

Or am I wrong?! The other stuff from this shop looks rather legit on first view.

Edit: nah I think he sells knock-offs and starts the auctions pretty cheap. Or who would sell a FW jacket with a starting price of 1,000 Yen?

@beautiful_FrEaK also the pair of Toys Mccoys seem to be from the same factory as the fake sugar canes.

or the graph zero

https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/japan/en/auction/yahoo/input/n1189945765/

they all feature that rather dull selvage denim and short button flys, look at the last fit pic of the McCoy's token from DC4 btw. and compare the steep front rise of an original pair...

My first draft had her as Tracy! Old episodes of Coronation Street influenced my final choice though, especially as @MJF9’s bit on the side is Mavis.

Was Mavis the mousy one who was always saying, "Ooooh... I don't know....".

I think Mavis and Elsie used to sell early editions of Boon and Lightning in The Cabin (unfortunately the magazine racks are just out of shot). The discerning locals of Weatherfield were switched-on pioneers of the second wave denimsphere.

And Stan said they keep back issues of Escort under the counter... for those who ask in a hushed gruff voice... and that wasn't the car magazine version either 👀

For those who go back far enough.
