Sugar Cane Denim

I saw some 1955 fakes some years ago. The ones with the cardboard box from 2007 or so. They were available at Taobao and all sizes were available.

Your linked pair remind me of them. They are no fakes, they are "fashion reps" 😅 some of these Chinese workshops do a great job in copying.

Thank you, I know the pair you're thinking of, there is an old thread on sufu regarding this topic. Its incredible how many details they did right, every rivets, every button... Maybe it's Sugar Canes Karma being coppied. I might wear these anyways, but could have almost two pairs of Bronson...

I wonder if anyone here has ever seen Sugar Cane fake Jeans? I have recently acquired a pair of SC419397us from Vinted and they somehow feel fakish, since the denim is so generic, reminds me of the Kaihara Denim that is used for the LVC 505, it is singed and not very heavy, also the patch looks a bit plasticy for Sugar Cane, more like the ugly LVC ones. They also don't resemble the last iteration of a '37 501 from 5 years ago or so. If it is legit the price would be a bargain, but if it is a fake pair...🫠

This is a link to an instagram vintage shop, which had sold a similar pair:

They look fake af!  :D

To be fair.. the jeans don't look too bad, but the patch, flasher and guarantee ticket look terrible!!

Yep.. these seem to be without exception, sold with ticket over flasher

^Tacked in 3x places, 1x horizontal, 2 at 45°

The pair on Insta are different.. 3x horizontal nylon tacks, ticket under flasher

If they fit.. I'd still wear them without hesitation.. they look like damn good fakes.

Can you do a bit of a forensic analysis of these compared to images of the legit versions online.. especially the hard to replicate points like nylon labels, rivets, buttons, thread colour, selvedge, buckle, belt loop placement and so on.. all the things they usually get wrong.

Terrible flashers aside, it would be interesting to see how accurate these actually are and help others in a similar dilemma and/or those buying used in the future... please and thanks :D

I don't know why they don't cut out the SC reproduction and do a straight Levis repro under their own branding and identity... this making copies of copies of originals must have a return on investment by leveraging the SC brand... but it all seams a bit daft 😉

I had been suspicious before, because legit 37s all came with "clean" rivets, while the fake one features oxidised rivets. But that's all okay, it's the denim that is nothing better than Uniqlo Denim. I also found out, legit pairs have the inside sizing label attached below cinch back rivet. Wonder if the fake uses cotton thread?

Probably because.. If you're going to make a (lets say) 1937 Levi replica and put yourself in direct competition with SC, WH, FW's, CSF et al'  first of all you need access to a pair of 1937 era Levi's.. that's £10k you've spent.. then you need period correct machinery, Singer, Union Special and so on.. a period accurate denim.. whereas in this^ case, you just buy a pair of SC41937s, scan/copy/print the flashers, cheap bolt of denim and copy the jeans for zero outlay.. undercut SC pricing with zero marketing costs and SC have done all the work on your behalf..

Tell that to TCB.

Exactly. Blow it to bits with Tomahawks…

^ up there ^... yeah all good and known points gents... though there is a way of doing repros obviously... others have done it (with and without being sued, I guess one would focus on the latter!) and so could they... clearly their situation needs to be right (sufficient filthy lucre included) and they need the will, but it'd be doable with the right means and will... ahhhh this thread could spiral into historic repeats... and on that basis I'm out 😁
