  1. I was a bit hesitant at first about the vertical fading. But with FWs one can trust that things will looking aesthetically. And with the fading pics here, foremost by fader extraordinaire @shredwin_206, my concerns were allayed and I got a pair as I was curious what their WWII denim was like. And I wasn't disappointed. Neither by the cut. Wearing them feels really good.

  7. From a visual pov.. i think a blue denim jacket looks much better with blue jeans than it does with black jeans .. for the same reason that i think a heavily worn denim jacket looks much better with heavily worn jeans.. i'm not at all keen on the shiney new o/w jacket with a battered old pair of jeans look.. it's not like any of us don't have numerous pairs of jeans or jackets so if i was wearing black jeans (not that i own black jeans) i wouldn't choose a blue denim jacket, i would choose something else. From my perspective it's more to do with the thoughts it conjures up.. there was a time here in the UK during my formative years of the mid-80s when most of the double denim i/you saw worn was by folks larping the metal scene.. emulating bands like Metallica, Anthrax.. et al' . An era of tight fitting black denim with pale blue washed washed out Typ3's .. god, i fkin hated this era, i hated the music, i hated the back combed hair but most of all, i hated the fashion.. made worse because Def Leopard were fkin massive in the city.. then the late 80s happened and there was a seismic shift in culture (thank fuck) new fashions, new drugs, new music which created a chasm between the old and the new.. Seeing black jeans worn with a blue denim jacket will always trigger these memories for me. We all carry this bias because clothing speaks to us.. it gives us an insight to the person you are and black / blue denim to me says this^ but i also appreciate, without this unreasonable bias .. you're fine to swing blue / black.. it's just not for me.

  9. I don't live too far from an area called the 'Rhubarb Triangle' ( @MJF9 is even closer still ) famed for supplying 90% of the worlds rhubarb.. when i was a kid, our parents would give you a stick of uncooked rhubarb and a cup of sugar to dip in and eat.. like a vegetable sherbet dip-dab .. it kept us quiet .. i much prefer a crumble.

  10. ^ I get this and love the personal response. blue / blue is usually better, I’ll concede that point. But sometimes you’d just rather different pants. Anyways, I used to wear black denim all of the time. Just black 511s. It was pretty much the standard in the art / punk circles I used to be in more, and I do still like monochrome top to bottom. Blue jackets were widely accepted on top of that, almost never raw though, and this was pretty separate from metal circles. I’m not a big metal fan (although some of it, yes), but generally if I’m going to accidentally evoke some bygone visual trope I’d much rather evoke punk or even metalhead than cowboy - not that really think either much applies (although I do love a good double denim, so I’m sure what other people see may evoke cowboy sometimes, but whatever).

  28. Denime/Cushman/TCB/Whites I pulled my pair of TCB 50s out for the first time in a while and remembered how much I like the texture that these get as they fade they’re an interesting faded contrast to the new Denime denim too which gets a lot more electric blue in the higher wear regions

  29. I'm not Julian but I'm pretty familiar with crawfish / seafood boils, essentially everything gets thrown into a big pot (usually outdoors) and boiled for a few hours. When everything is done they'll pour it out on a table covered in butcher paper (or news paper) and you can just come by and fill up a plate. It's definitely a southern thing (to my knowledge) and usually used as a good excuse to stand around and drink for a few hours while you hang out.

  31. Looks good @Jared_Lee are you doing the laundromat wash + dryer with these? And I agree these seemed to knock off a chunk of indigo with the shrink wash and first week of wear, then settled in to neither fast nor slow fading.

  38. I’m not ‘bike packing’ as such so I have no bike luggage, just this small 13l hike/bike daypack.. https://www.sim.works/products/chips-bag-13l?srsltid=AfmBOopyy3VLlLzF2XprK4U4iw-ztV_B6TUMqUlMNYm3FXSO_gfst_wH It’s only just big enough to hold a single season down bag, tarp and the pole ..which is all I need for a single nights camp without food.. my rides are usually 60% road, 30% trail and 10% climbing up rocks with the bike on my shoulder, thankfully the bike is light af.. but it would be impossible to shoulder the bike laden down with luggage. If I sized up to something large enough to carry the mat, it would be a 40- 50l alpine pack.. way too big for a single nights camp but I might try using the bungees on the Chips Bag to hold the mat if I go further afield.

  45. We're getting some mild Spring-like weather which can be a rarity around here, so I'm taking the opportunity to do a few chores around our patch. Trees were long overdue for a trim so I've had to be ruthless. That's hard for me as I'm one of those hippies that feels the trimming causes pain to the tree. I've used the tractor to push away the trimmings, and do a bit of mowing too as the foxtails are starting to sprout. Met a gopher snake soaking up the heat from the pebbles.

  46. Busy weekend so far. Thursday night (basically Friday night cos of the holiday) my band played a benefit gig for a homie of our who got hit with some sever emergency medical expenses. Haven't rocked a gig since December so that felt good. Then spent Friday (Saturday) and today (second Saturday) working on the bathroom at the new place with my dad. Got the old wall ripped out and lucky for us the pocket door frame fit perfectly into the void left by the wall. Got the frame installed, got a temporary floor where the shower used to be, and got the header installed above the door. Also borrowed a family friend's truck to get some of the bigger furniture out of my girlfriend's apartment. The Big Move is next weekend and then I'll finish up the bathroom at some point.

  47. 3009, wasn’t too keen on these but the measurements fit the bill. Having a dozen of so pairs that I retire after a couple years, I told myself I’ll machine wash these often and wear them until they’re beyond repair. Didn’t care for the vertical fading at first but that has seemed to vanish. Extremely fast fading, these aren’t even at 2 years yet. Darned the crotch professionally and doing self repairs now. By far the best fitting slim straight pairs I’ve owned. also I wanted to add, I believe washing maching significantly increases fabric wear. The first photo was right before a wash, then the last 2 photos show fraying in several spots including the knees, right after a gentle cycle no spin
