Which is a shame, his denim and duck garments were fantastic.

Not really feeling the new brand, I'm sad to say - none of the pieces released so far have caught my eye like the older Rising Sun or Stevenson's stuff had.

Yeah, a bit too Eddie Bauer as someone on DB said, though the discharge printed fabric on the Navy is fantastic.

That vest is beautifully detailed and constructed, but I don't get the jacket-without-arms vest, with only two chest pockets that are too small to put anything in. IMO, a vest is even more utilitarian that jeans, and should at least have some useful pockets. Although I don't wear one, I love vests, and this is really look good. The details are unique and interesting without being cliche.

If you spend some time hanging out with the pieces, you might change your mind. Everything is very subtle, but definitively made by Mike. It is definitely not a line for pure denim-heads but there's a lot going on there for folks who look closely at other areas of men's apparel throughout the 20th century.

Alright so I finally took some fit pictures of my 714s that I've been thinking about selling. Sorry for the lack of socks. 
What do you guys think, too tapered? Or should I hem them and get around to wearing them?
I've just been so used to wearing straight legged jeans that these almost feel too snug around my calves.
They've already been through a warm/hot wash awhile ago, although the waist feels big so I'm wearing a belt with them.

@Broark I think they look good. Although from your post sounds like you aren't crazy about the fit. Seems like you would like another style better. If you don't love them sell them.

I'd sell, you have a bunch of other jeans that fit much better. Those make the bottom half of your body look too small for the top half. And I know what you mean about too tight around the calves/ankles. After wearing ~9" hems for a while, even like 8" feels weird.

Agreed with everyone above -- the straighter cuts you've been wearing over the past few months really suit you, I'd keep wearing those and sell these.

Kiya, have you started on a new pair after your La Jollas?  I remember when you posted the pix a few months ago you reckoned you might start another cut of Stevensons.

Also Broark, I must agree with everyone else above.  No point in wearing a pair you aren't too keen on.  I'd say sell em and use the money to fund another pair or whatever else

i dont think they look bad and with a few wears they will probably loosen up a bit but like everyone said, your gut seems to be telling you the fit isnt quite right.  In my experience thats a giveaway...

Even if the fit was spot-on, I've always felt that SOC's 1890 miner details don't jive with slim tapered cuts anyhow.

Agreed. This was actually why I strayed away from my 727 after a year. The 714 looks more like a 60s jean on me which works a liiiiiittle better. 

@Broark I'll agree that the straighter fits suit you better. This pair looks like a slim tapered fit on you. Not terrible, at all, totally stretchable, and wearable but doesn't seem like something you dig.

I say keep them for something a bit different so you can mix it up a bit with all those straight leg jeans.

I don't see a problem with the actual knee/hem, because that looks good IMO, but the thighs, hips, and top block seem too fitted for your frame.

La Jolla 727 with somewhere around 5-6 months of wear and 4 washes. I had to send them in to Railcar to reduce the waist by 2" and I just got them back this past Monday. This cut doesn't really fit me too well with the big waist/small thigh but I love the fabric and details so much that I can't bring myself to get rid of them. I also had a crotch repair done by Mildblend after about 4 months of wear and they did a fantastic job. I plan on replacing these with the 737 cut once these become unwearable.

Thanks. I meant that I think the 737 would suit me better. These 727s are slim from the thigh down but the waist and seat are large. Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying them very much. Especially since the waist downsizing by Railcar.

Yeah looks good, especially the length, super perfect with no cuffs. 

Id love to hear your thoughts on the 737, I'll probably get that cut too when I get some stevensons.

Just when this pair hit that stage where you swear you see them evolving everyday I get a minor crotch blowout. It is right above a previous repair I had done by Mildblend. I think I'll wear these a few more times, give them another wash (just washed them this past weekend), and bring them to Mildblend to be repaired again. They do a great job. After the repair these will probably be demoted to weekend status. Pretty bummed but I think the combo of lowish rise, snug thighs and a manual labor job is causing some problems here.

I’m finally retiring my Stevenson 727 jeans.  They have 3.5 years of constant wear, 27 machine washes, 6 repairs (at SESF, SEPDX, SELA, and I hand-repaired them twice while in Mexico).  I love these jeans, everything from the super functional curved rear pockets to the way every stitch and fold ages is pure perfection.  Retiring a pair of jeans that you’ve worn for almost 4 years is a rewarding experience.  Going into that new jean feels both jarring and exciting; for the first time I’m going from one jean to another and they’re both made of the same denim but with slightly different details and a different fit.  My next jean is Stevenson’s 714 Valencia model.
