what exactly is slub/slubby? i used the search button but most people just use the word. i haven't found anything that defines it. i think it has to do with either the roughness/naturalness of the denim or baggy? possibly? not sure. obviously a nub question, but anybody want to help me out?

slub is this unevenness of the weave, means that small knots of thread occur on random places on the jeans.. in the pursuit of making the jeans look vintage, companies have tried to use this slubbiness in the denim to show the "i dont give a fuck they are just jeans anyway"-attitude....

Yeah i checked. tried searching under one wash. Are u saying SC in general are not known for their fading patterns in general?

No no...other SC models fade great...and after looking through the Evolution of Jeans thread, there are some Okinawa's that have some fading...its just not as dramatic as some other jeans.

Are you looking at the 40300 or 40301's?

I know this question has been asked before, but it always seems to mostly get joke answers. I just want to get the maximum amount of wear in my jeans--so many jeans, so little time. What is the final verdict on sleeping in jeans? Personally, I've found I can fall asleep perfectly fine in them. I was just wondering if it actually helps them fade or crease at all.

i sleep in my jeans all the time and i don't think it can hurt...don't really know if it actually does promote faster fades..it shouldn't be that big of a factor..all in all, its just how active you are in yours jeans

btw..did you send me the masa's yet? XD

IMO, it shouldn't affect the wear at all, if it does anything it stretches them, but that's about it... then again, I could be wrong, say if you roll around all the time or you're a sleep-walker. ;)

But, yeah, I occasionally fall asleep (pass out) in my jeans too... no harm.

people keep talking about flat felled seams and how they're a mark of a high quality jean and i think i know what they are (it's when the cloth is folded inside each other so the edges don't appear and then sewn right?) but don't most jeans have flat felled seams? i feel like i won't know unless i rip my jeans apart, but i feel like they're flat felled seams. i guess my question is what kind of seams do lesser quality jeans have?

Selvage recommends for a 50 y.o fellow w/a 42 in. waist would be welcomed.

I have a few Big Es and Uniqlos.

The Uniqlos fit me anyway better than the Levis.

Looking to branch out, add some variety.

Is it me, or is the majority of the premium denim made for a slimmer, younger wearer?

Most jeans don't have flat felled seams. If you look on the inside of jeans without it, you'll see the stitching that goes around the outside edge of the fabric, which has been sewn with a serger. Like lots of little loop stitches all around the edge to prevent fraying etc etc.

okay i need some advice on what type of prewash/one wash jeans i should get. I don't want anything really thick. so far the option i found best was some lucky brand jeans.

for reference im looking to get this look in the end:

from evo thread

i want the fade more subtle and the denim light in color and really soft in the end

Go for a jean that uses a lighter denim, say 14oz or less, and wash them all the time. I believe studio d'artisan makes a 12oz jean.

Any jean will do really, that look you're going for will just take alot of time and wear.

Studio D'Artisan make a few models of jeans in your size range...I'll be damned if I can find a link right now, but I'll send you a private message when I do.

...and yes, you're right about premium denim (specifically japanese) being made for a slimmer clientelle. Age is irrelevant in my opinion...I think your tastes become more refined as you age. ;)

can you recognize that a jean has flat felled seams just by looking on the outside? and i've been looking at the measurements of some of the jeans at selfedge, but all of them have like 12" thighs. do you guys really have 12 in" thighs?

You can't tell from the oustide (unless you're a pro). As mentioned above, you have to look at the inside of the inseam. An example would be APC's jeans. It shouldn't be a deciding factor in your purchases though...many great quality jeans without flat felled seams.

Take a look at the measurement details on BiG's website...they might make more sense that way:

Has anyone tried washing their jeans with oxy clean? It's either that or costco brand detergent. Which would you guys recommend?

Can someone explain what each dimension means in denim weave measurements? like 6x6 or 7x6, 3x1, etc... what exactly do those numbers correspond to?

nevermind i figured it out.

taken from BIG:

"The thickness of threads and yarns are measured in numbers, #0 being

the thickest and decreasing in size with a higher number. Therefore 6x6 indicates

this model uses #6 indigo warp threads and #6 ecru weft yarn and is heavier in

weight and darker in color than the 7x6 model which uses #7 warp threads and #6

weft yarns for a lighter weight and lighter color denim"

hey thanks a lot that cleared up some, but i still have some questions. first what does the inseam that is a flat felled seam look like? i tried googling, but i'm not getting anything (at least any inside of the inseam pictures, i think. i'm such a noob. please forgive me). second so the thigh measurements posted for the say size 32 samurai s5000vx (which is 12.75 in.) is the doubled measurement or the just once across measurement?

again thanks a lot for answering my noob questions. teach me oh mighty ones.

Just want to find out how much the Eternal 811 and PBJ xx_005 BK, both one wash, will shrink after a hot/cold soak... Or will the shrinkage be negligible?

hi guys... will appreciate if someone could help me with this... :)
