What method did you use for shrinking? Anything you can suggest to get max shrink out? I only seem to get 1" in the waist and need more...Thanks for any help.

My advice let them SHRINK TO FIT. If you shrink them to fast they will not shrink the same way as if you do it slowly over time. If you are patent and wear them raw for a few months (yeah baggy and everything) then soak them and wear them again fro several time until they're fully shrunk they will shrink fully in areas that are loose and fully stretch back in areas that are tight truly conforming to your body giving you a custom fit. BE PATIENT its well worth it for both fit and fading.

Here are a pair of VERY RARE 1997 201s some say are some of the finest LVCs made. They are tagged 40W 34L but are very slim in the waist still full in seat and thighs are fully shrunk have nice fades. These are very rare and about a good as it gets...No hole or tears...

actually measure

36 waist 32 1/2 inseam

I have not found there to be any difference. If I let things shrink slowly, fades migrate. I am also not convinced that the physics of cotton stretching would allow for there to be a difference. The shrink is a closed system - they shrink a certain amount, then stop. How they get to that max shrinkage shouldn't affect how the fabric performs over time. Nevertheless, I agree that for sentimental reasons, it makes sense to let jeans wear in the way they used to in the "old days." I am just not convinced the real difference is there to be seen in the jeans.

Hey Jake I've done it both ways and I can tell you the slow going for me is now the only way. The fade are much better as is the final fit in my opinion well it works for me.

I don't dispute that at all, I just think the difference might be in the eye of the beholder, if you know what I am saying. Regardless, however you are breaking in your LVC's, I can certainly attest to the quality; they look good.

I agree, shrinkage and stretching is the same no matter if you wash once or soak several times.

I think that with such a personal item as one's pair of favorite jeans, it's inevitable that every person will do something a little different. I know I've got my own denim regimen. :D

Well, I broke down and washed them in hot and put them in the dryer. Even after that all I got was 1" in the waist. Im starting to think F$#k this shrink to fit stuff.

this is why I always recommend to by shrink to fit jeans fitted in waist, even if they shrink down with wash, the waist stretches back with while... i have pair of "unwashed" 37 201xx which i could stretch out for nearly two inches...

look at the yoke stitching, the threat nearly became white, so nice... would love to what job the owner did, because of that interesting fading!

sorry if this question has been asked, however can someone help me with a comparison between these two? and my true waist is a 29 and would purchasing a 30 work fine? thanks in advance for the help

Welcome to Superfuture.

Take a look at the thread below, it will give you a breakdown of the differences of the 47 vs the 55. The denim on both is fairly similar - I'd say the 47 (raw, at least) is a smidgen darker/greyer, the 55 is bluer, the 55 looks slightly 'fluffier' and crocks a little more than the 47 - and has selvage, too. (But any differences aren't so obvious with the washed jeans). I'l be adding more photos to this thread soon, including the 55, worn for a couple of months.

Hello guys, It's my first post here. I am Denimseeker (ig: denim_seeker).
I have been collecting vintage jackets for a while, esp. denim jackets. Feeling that the denim world deserves a better guide for Levi's denim jackets so I tried my best to make one. The guide is much more complicated than those you see on other websites (i.e. Heddel's or Long John etc) so you might need some basic understanding to read it. This guide is open for comments and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know. This guide is still a work in progress and would be wonderful if everybody in the denim world can contribute.
      That being said, enjoy!

      Hi All,
see you again on 2020 and I wish you all happy new year. this time I need your opinion about Levi's BIG E that I found at flea market few days ago. I found an old Levi's vest (its a jacket once before), this vest do not have a cinch back, I also cannot see the number on the back of button, tag was unavailable. only rivets, red tab and selvedge that I can see clearly. here's I send you the details. Hopefully someone here can give me an opinion regarding this Levi's. Any opinions are welcome, I do appreciated.
      please let me know.

I checked the Encyclopedia thread and only one Levi's link didn't give a 404 error, so here goes nothing. I should add that a lot of the center patch jeans actually aren't vintage (at least the ones I'm looking for) and date back to around 2006. I've talked with Levi's support a handful of times and got nothing out of it. I'm trying to figure out what all the center patch pairs are. I know I haven't quite figured them all out, but I've found a few, though they seem very hard to come by, and obviously aren't currently in production. I'd really like to find a pair with the white "Quality Never Goes Out of Style" center patch. Something tells me I don't have the ideal wording, and if I knew exactly what to type, I could probably find a plethora of those jeans. When I google 519's, I have to block the words extreme or skinny (add a - in front of whatever word you don't want to see in the results) or I get mostly brand new pairs of 519's. Here's what I know so far:

This pair, which can be seen clearly in the first photo and on this store page (which has other photos of the same pair) appears to be 519 slim fit. However, they don't seem to be the normal 519 slim fit. One site I looked at called them "519 slim fit side adjusters". I have looked extensively over the past couple of weeks and was lucky to find that clear photo, as well as that store listing and one Ebay listing which sold a while back. On a side note, I found that 511 skinny leg (or a version, rather) seems to look the same, with the centered white patch and waist adjusters, but they too are hard to find. The 511's and 519's have a white patch that says, "Quality Never Goes Out of Style". There may be others as well.

You may recognize these from the Moonbathing ads. They are part of the "Two Horse Brand" collection, which have a yellow and white patch and say "Two Horse Brand" on the patch. 506 and 511 look identical, while 509 has the addition of a cinch back. There might be other fit numbers I'm missing.
