Yup, must have picked them out of the wrong container. They're a totally normal 1947 in every other respect.

I was there a few years before, when they were producing the Capital E reissues that predated LVC; I remember a big plastic box with the red tags, and being tempted to pick up a handful. There weren't that many people sewing there, maybe a dozen. I wish I'd had a camera with me.

I would have taken those tabs and sewed them to all my Japanese jeans, mwahahahahahah

Astute observation everyone :D

jeans are looking great, Allen - and good to see you back. They do seem to wear like the 33s - I guess it's the belt loops and the pocket shape that are the main differences. My 1920s 201, plus the 55 and 47 should be ready for a wash soon.

AS you can see, Sufu is completely fucked now! You have to keep hitting reload to see new posts. But sometimes they do disappear for real, just to keep you guessing.

Glad you got the book Pomata, hope you enjoy it! Thge new one is handier, but you can't see all those delicious details quite so clearly...

Just picked up a pair of LVC 517's on the 'bay. I know pretty much everyone here prefers the '47-type 501 cut, but does anyone have experience with these? I got them on the cheap and I don't really have a slimmer, slight boot cut in the repertoire.

I also have these and once I get these hemmed, I personally thought the fit was great. I have the 1967 606 super slim LVCs and I'm guessing that the 71 517s will wear and fade similarly as they are both non selvage 60s/70s denim. Fit pics?

Just got a pair of 55's from Cultzim (excellent shipping...ordered sunday night/monday morning, arrived at my canadian doorstep on tuesday afternoon). Does anyone have the pre-soak measurements of their inseams?

The pair is marked 32x34, and after an 1+hour hot hot soak in the tub, the inseam measures roughly 31.5 inches. Being an inpatient idiot, I didn't measure before soaking, and have no means of comparison. How much more shrinkage can I expect? I don't plan on washing them for a while, and i'm trying to debate between cuffing until they've been washed a few times, or getting them hemmed right away.

the measurement of lvc 55 pre-soak is the same as the tag. i remember mine measures 36 inseam presoak, then went to 33 inseam post soak, then went to 32 inseam post several wash.

Okay, maybe I'll just cuff them then.

Would another hot soak bleed a significant amount of indigo/shrink the inseam a bit more?

No. Only a wash will get that final bit of shrinkage out of the way.

It wasn't totally clear from your original post where yours were 32w 34L, or 32L 34W, but I assume they were 34 leg in whcih case 2 /1/2 inches shrinkage is very good. You might get another half inch.

If you're going to get them shortened in a regular tailor, you might as well wait until your first wash. It's only worth getting them hemmed earlier on if you're doing them chainstitch and want that roping effect (Search sufu for more information, there is some roping porn on offer).

Thanks Paul T. I'm more concerned about the inseam shrinking, and the cuff line being noticable when I eventually do get them hemmed.

For instance, my year old 47's have a few tears on the backside of the cuff line from being repeatedly stepped on. When I wash them, I'm thinking that those big tears might be higher than where I want them hemmed, and so those marks will be visible right above the heel of my shoe.

I'm not too concerned though, I'm just going to hot soak these 55's one more time than start wearing them in.

Thanks everybody for answering my questions. I haven't checked sufu for a while so the thanks are belated.

Reggie Died: You said you were in Canada and bought your jeans from Cultizm. Did you get hit with any duties/customs charges?

For anyone: I got a pair of 55's in a size 34. My waist went down an inch since I got them but they still fit well in the waist and legs. The butt, however, is baggy and the extra material sticks out a bit. Just wondering if this is just the nature of 55's due to the higher rise? Will this calm down a bit after wear and maybe tighten up after first wash? I'm not sure if I should keep these or get a pair of 32 or 33 waist and sell these. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

No. I bought them off ebay. Here's some pictures.

Nope. I actually missed the FedEx guy on the tuesday, but called to see if I could pick them up at the sorting facility. I also asked what I would owe (taxes/brokerage fee) and the lady said that the package was only marked as $25, so i owed nothing.
