I had to diversify away from traditional pattern making years ago Colonel.. i've spent the last 6 years developing a fully automated process of making ceramic shapes which extract impurities from oil and natural gas which can then be recycled.. i've replaced all the carved wooden balustrades throughout a victorian school.. i've developed some pumps which can drain flood water without killing the fish.. the fish pass through the pump like a fishy roller-coaster.. I'm not short of work ..i'm just not using 90% of the pattern making skills i trained hard to develop and there is no point passing those skills to the next generation because there is no modern day application for them... robotics and 3d printing has made them redundant.

This is the kind of thing my woodworking skills would be used to carve out.. to within +/- 0.1mm accuracy with contraction allowences :D

It's a volute.. an impeller fits in the center.. which i also used to make by hand.

They're wasted on furniture making!.. saying that.. they're wasted anyway

Takes me back - I learned to design all this stuff in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. I think it marks the time when I discovered mathematics was a more interesting language than ‘English’ (or any other tongue).

Very interesting to see you build this

This is the fishy-helter-skelter Mike..

I had no drawing for these, the customer knew what they wanted but they didn’t exactly know how to get there (my mantra for life) but the biggest problem is this casting doesn’t mould! even coring the inside, the loose pieces won’t draw from the core box because they don’t mould either.. so it has to be some fancy-shamancy joint lines with multiple core assembly and hopefully no print lines.

rather than an impeller.. it’s called an impulser so I think the pump, pumps the water until it detects a fish passing through the system (there must be a sensor like when you get your photo taken on the log flume) and stops the blades to allow the fish to swim through the ‘moving’ parts into the holding tank..

the tube in the water will be this kind if aperture

..any fish bigger than this won’t fit through the tube, they will be netted when the flood water is low enough

The last one I made took me 16 weeks B)

Well summed up!

In reality, they all serve a purpose as they are all different I tell thee.  Different eras, cuts, denims, fits, level of fade, sizes et al

Plus I like jackets and I cannot lie :)

Are you finding it easy to move them along? I put a bunch on Grailed. Most are sitting...

Good selection @freshwater, do you have anything in reserve?

Nothing currently in reserve @Maynard Friedman. Had a clear out over the last 6 months and have just kept what I really like and actually wear. As I've 'matured' I just don't seem to wear my denim as hard as I used to, so these should last ages on rotation. Obviously something at some point will catch my eye!  I do always like to have at least one pair in pretty much newish condition

Of course @Dr_Heech! Pretty sure Flash posted the 70’s pair before I took them off his hand. I’ll sort the other ones out when I find the time. :)

Thanks @reallypeacedoff. I always enjoyed having a look at different brands and see what I like (and not like). These days I just wear the pairs I like the most. Probably won’t go into another new brand, except if I finally decide to start something myself.

As the year came to an end, I saw that I was selling faster than I was buying. I wondered: what do I want to buy next year? I can't think of anything. And there doesn't seem to be anything more to sell. Am I approaching a magical balance and realisation of happiness? No way, I know I'm not. Some sneaky urge to buy will come most surely.🙄
