that's a fierce edit; but as a very condensed statement of a collection to be actually worn of pieces that actually fit and suit; I like it...

My list isn't much compared to some of what's here. I also give stuff away (if life left), or otherwise try to ditch it if it's dead. I try not to be too sentimental, but still am a little. I also got into this from a very non-repro angle. Honestly, I am a touch more into jackets though - but not strictly denim with those.

Main (winter) rotation:

Tender 129 Woad - size 2
Mister Freedom Lot 64 Midnight. Size 29

Secondary (summer) rotation:

SC Edo Ai - size 30
Warehouse 1003xx - size 29

Hanging in closet:

Mister Freedom Lot 64 Midnight size 30 (bought anticipating dad bod weight gain)
Companion Denim Joel
Raleigh Denim Martin in an ID/BK herringbone (retired, but probably my favorite faded pair)

Recently got rid of PBJ 019 and some other Raleighs in weird fabrics I picked up at their warehouse sale over the years.

If I get one pair this year it will likely be Ooe or Tender, but I'm trying to hold back as everything's got good life left. We'll see. I guess this puts me at 7 jeans currently.

Mostly the same - my two purchases for jeans in 2022 were OA's and Indigoferas.

Waiting in the closet:

Ooe Yufukuten OA01XX-0522 (31)
MF Lot 64 Midnight (30)

Most Active:

Warehouse DD 1003xx 1946 (29)
Indigofera Kirk (Gunpowder) (29)
Tender 129 (Woad) (sz 2)

Less Active, but still worn:
Mister Freedom Lot 64 (29)
SC Edo Ai (30)

Got rid of/packed away mostly everything else.

Current (selvage) rotation:

  1. Samurai S710XX19oz-II
  2. Sugar Cane Anniversary Edition Edo-Ai Limited Edition
  3. A.P.C. New Standard
  4. Iron Heart 633s-142
  5. Roy RT Slim Tapered XX Experimental Denim
  6. Nudie Steady Eddie II Dry OG Indigo Selvage
  7. Nudie Steady Eddie II Dry Black Selvage

Non-selvage:

  • Some pairs of Nudie, Stone Island, Carhartt WIP, and (old) Tsubi in various washes and styles (jeans, jorts, and overalls)

Retired (but keeping):

  1. Imperial SExI14 Indigo
  2. The Flat Head SE05BSP

I'm having a year off from buying clothes; however, I plan on buying one or both versions—depending on cut—of the new Imperials dropping this year.

Last year I was able to sell several pairs which I do not need any more. Such as PBJ, Sugar Cane, The Strike Gold. Keep heavy Iron Heart and Samurai for cold windy winter. Couple of pairs of each Freewheelers, Warehouse and OA for joy of wearing. Single items from Denime, Full Count (thinking about 1105 to add), Boncoura, The Flat Head, TCB. Non-denim items from Freewheelers, orSlow, Ues.

Only change to my list would be those Devi's.. for the last few years my main consideration when buying something/anything has been "how many hours of joy and happiness is this purchase going to give me".. re- denim.. i used to enjoy the hunt/research but beyond the purchase, it's not much.. i mean, i'm currently wearing some vintage SC-47s and a Warehouse 506.. are they filling me with joy? .. no not really, i don't even think about it.. does my denim collection fill me with joy?.. well, yes when i actually get it out of the wardrobe and look at it.. when was the last time this happened? ..erm.. when Martin and Tilmann were asking about ziplock bags.. the time before that was.. pfft.. i dunno? compare that with other pastimes i enjoy.. cycling?.. which can also be an equally expensive hobby but it gives me at least 10hrs of joy every week.. tennis?  gives me 6hrs of joy every week.. listening to music gives me at least 12hrs of joy/week.. I appreciate i'm wearing denim every hour of the day, but is that investment actually paying off in the form of happiness?.. no not really.

Did you have a good weekend?

Yes!

What did you do?

I wore some denim :D

Epicurus said that pleasure implies the absence of pain and anxiety, something that can easily be caused by wearing mass-market jeans. Hence, owning and wearing raw denim is pure joy ^_^

On the flip.. De La Soul once said “sometimes the body needs to feel stressed to appreciate the joy”

Maybe I need to wear highstreet Levi’s to appreciate what I’m missing?

No, you need to wear Tesco mens jeans with 'stretch' for a while, that'll either bring you round to your senses or draw you into middle age

Hey at least it'll get you off of the 'denim plateau' stage.

Failing that there's always bike or tennis forums ;)

^ That’s what I said. Also, if you like quality coffee, then give it up for Mellow Birds or Maxwell house or swap your beer for Carling Black Label! You could even sell your fancy bike for something cheaper from Decathlon.

The thing is.. i don't need or even want to do any of those things.. like most here..I have enough jeans to last a lifetime.. frankly we're all going to die owning a bunch of denim.. if the jeans you're wearing are giving you a perpetual sense of joy and happiness then i'm genuinely happy for you.. i've probably felt that way myself in the past.

It's flown off at a Tesco-tangent.. but let's say i decide to buy some new jeans.. i would enjoy the research, i would enjoy the hunt, i would enjoy the sense of anticipation waiting for them to arrive then i would chuck them in the wardrobe and the joy ends there until i look at them again.. in maybe a years time.. we all have a finate ammount of £££s and i can think of many more ways of extracting happiness from those £££s than having my pile of denim slightly higher than it was last week..

I'm not even saying tennis/bike pre'se (it used to be camping/hiking with my boy) these were just examples.. what i'm saying is.. if i'm going to spend the money i've worked hard to earn.. i want it to give me repeated joy on a daily.. if not weekly, basis or in the very least fond memories of times well spent.. the only reason we spend our days yakking on this forum is because the denim high is so short lived and it leaves us bored on a denim comedown with time on our hands.. i do enjoy spending time here with you lot but there is very little which we have'nt already discussed to the enth degree over the last 15yrs.. we're just repeating ourselves when we should be enjoying ourselves rather than consuming more denim.. for the grieving relitives.. :D:D

I totally feel this situation. Is that how a junky feels?

I still enjoy owning and wearing my stuff, of course looking at it and I have somehow on display. But I was certainly more excited several years ago than I am nowadays. Still, I frequent our little niche and enjoy the stuff I see from you guys. And also enjoy sharing my stuff with you as nobody else would care anyway (I hope you guys care though... ;) )

Me too.. the love of denim has been with me since being a teenager.. it'll never go away but just recently.. it's not enough for me to feel contented .. i need something to give me a sense of acheivement beyond.. look at all this shit i've bought (i say to myself) :D

I've always had a collectors mentality..  be it denim, be it vinyl, be it sneakers.. be it mid-century furniture be it gore jackets but when my kid came along, i had very little spare time and the denim hobby was enough to fill it (like a form of relaxation) and fatherhood gave me the sense of acheivement i was looking for but now he's 99% independent.. i need to fill my spare time with a lot more than just denim so i have to consider how i fill that limited time with the limited disposable income i have.

With all seriousness, the truth is that none of the perceived objects of the apparent world can be the source and reason of joy and happiness. The source is only in our selves. The good news is that we ourselves don't go anywhere, and joy and happiness are our ever present permanent nature. Well, except for the moments when we turn our attention to the high street Levi's B)

Maybe not source.. but gateway.. for example, if the weather is shite and i'm stuck in the house all weekend, i'll often feel a bit depressed on monday morning.. whereas if i'm on the tennis court at 9am then out on my bike in the afternoon.. i'll feel quite buoyant on a monday morning. Without the bike or tennis racket there is no gateway to this happiness

I am lucky in that l have enough repro-based denim jeans and jackets that l continue to enjoy wearing (with emphasis on the joy-wearing).

Sad as it may sound, l'm just happy l have a nice selection of worn-in Levis repros which fit me well and l can wear doing whatever l like as the only real value in them is joy at the end of the day, apart from stuff that no longer fits. The other aspect of our culture l still get a buzz from is viewing old vintage denim clothing and sometimes sharing/chatting about it.

The Nice things thread may well one day be  The forum where we all go with everything to show and talk about - denim, tennis rackets And philosophy.
