  1. My latest project - an actual commission from a customer! 3.38mm stitching, all handmade and my original design (tho obviously inspired by Birkin bags and music cases).

  2. I mentioned recently that I had found a pair of jeans unexpectedly on Yahoo, they arrived last week: Slash Overalls S01XX. I've been a big fan of his work since I've been following him online for a few years, even bothering him via DM and email asking if he'd accept an international order. He's not set up to accommodate international orders yet, but maybe he'll be able to someday. Going through a normal proxy isn't viable since his jeans and jackets seem to sell out very quickly. So I was surprised to see these in BNWT state (you can see some residual chalk markings from where he was putting them together), unwashed and in my size for under retail! Honestly I debated posting photos of these, he's very opposed to resellers (there's a post on his blog about it), even banning anyone from purchasing again if he tracks down the serial number and ties it back to the original order. So hopefully I'm not shaking the hornets nets. It's hard to figure out what exactly these are (since he doesn't disclose the serial numbers), but I'm guessing they're a late 40s inspired pair. They even have a similar wonky stitch across the coin pocket similar to the recent SC45s. The denim is nice and hearty, and the stitching is pretty interesting. I'll need to get a better photo of the crotch construction, it's pretty interesting. The enamel coating on the buttons is pretty intense, even compared to FW. The backs of the buttons are also slightly indented along the top and bottom, hard to photograph but just an interesting observation. I'll probably keep these raw for awhile since I'm focusing on wearing other pairs pretty consistently right now, but it's nice to find something that I thought was unobtainable.

  3. I always find it a bit puzzling when war is called politics — just an observation. To me, they seem like very different things. But anyway, I guess it’s hard to understand from the outside. And, I’m doing well, thank you.

  4. Photo dump. Broke my Midnight Riders Dungarees out today. Wish they were slightly shorter and slightly looser in the top block. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to find a bigger size someday. The beautiful 10 oz denim on these is aging wonderfully.

  5. I'm a bit of 506 nut as some of you may have guessed and while I wasn't short of jackets to work on, I'd had in mind a Slash Overalls one for a while and won a BNWT/raw one at auction (having previously been outbid on a WWII model). Seam puckering is pretty awesome after a soak, which is really Slash's thing. Fit is close to my platonic ideal for a 506- shorter body length than Freewheelers or SC 1945, right amount of dropped shoulder, sleeves are bang on, and its fitted but not as slim as my Neat Style/Denim Bridge (although it's a size larger than the Neat Style to be fair) - hoping it doesn't change much with subsequent washes. Raw vs soaked The white buttons stand out enough I think my co-workers might actually notice its a different jacket (think the last couple have all passed for being one and the same) Think I got a bit enthusiastic rinsing under the tap after soaking and got some staining from the patch... don't want to wash again yet so it'll stay for now

  7. @Talan I’ve seen you mention your situation a few times here now and I just wanted to say I’m sorry for the insanity your country is going through. This is a nonsense thread, and that indeed is nonsense. Unfortunately I’ve heard a few firsthand accounts of things since this all started from some Ukrainian friends and just…yeah. It’s hope it ends soon and that you stay safe. @Double 0 Soul I think the reason this forum has stayed sane, in part, is the no politics policy (hopefully acknowledgement of being in a war and it sucking is not considered as such) - and people coming together around a common interest. 4 Chan, at least from what I understand, is quite a different beast. I think my household was a relatively early adopted of the internet. Probably logged on in 1995 or so for games then - I went through all of the shit, starting on AOL Instant Messenger. Yes MySpace and early Facebook. There used to be a sense of wonder and discovery and a lot humor and just amazing weirdness. Tumblr was sort of the beginning of the end in my personal recollection. The commercialization of everything did indeed make all the good stuff much harder to find. Like a funky town with good affordability might have a ton of strange shops and co-ops but then it gets killed when too a critical mass of people become interested. Though I had started earlier, I really learned photography on a forum called skateboardphotography.com in 2004 or so - it was run by a German dude and was a pretty tight ship with scathing critiques and a real attitude of wanting to improve amongst the posters. Some skilled photographers were on there and shared their industry experience working for mags like Thrasher and Transworld. It launched a few solid careers in photography. I learned more on that forum - with regards to the craft of photography - than I did in university or in graduate school for art - and mostly because the critical culture was very tough but very fair and with a common goal. Defensiveness would essentially get you bounced. You could disagree, but you’d have to show why in your work to make the argument. It’s amazing how gentle the critiques have to be in institutions now. That’s a side rant, but yeah. There were a lot of good threads on technical topics with film, processing, lighting and all of it (before digital was very good). All member generated and highly relevant. We had to pay a subscription fee of like $25 or something, which felt like a big ask for a bunch of grimey broke skaters. I remember after just about a year the founder just took the site offline with no warning and ran off with a bunch of new subscriber’s fees. Another forum followed it but it was nowhere near as good and the community was too big and chaotic. Since then I’ve made it a point to make sure anything I really care about online is something I am hosting myself. @shredwin_206 yea - similarly if I were in your shoes I’d probably be in Carhartts or Dickies etc. (I can’t pull off Wranglers)

  8. As an aside.. we booked a place in Santorini this summer, it looks incredible.. there is only something like 1500 people who live on the island, a lot left after the last volcanic eruption.. the place was in Megalochori, the old historic quarter with a view of a church and a belltower.. but as i started to do some research into restaurants and such.. i discovered that during the summer season, an average of 7000 (between 3000 and 10000) instagram cruiseship daytripping wankers flood the island on a daily basis, so you're sharing the narrow streets with these hideous people.. but they have no interest in the culture or exploring the island.. they're just narcissists who're only there to take a selfie of themselves in front of the Santorini skyline .. they leave at 7.30pm as the cruise ships depart.. Point the camera one way and it's an Instagram worthy view.. you've got your best hat on, you're stood in front of whitewashed buildings, blue minarets, sea in the background.. turn the camera the other way and there are 7000 other people jostling for the same photograph.. there are videos of locals pleading with people not to visit their island in July or August.. i couldn't bear to be part of this nonsense so we cancelled it. I see this to a lesser extent in the Peak District, the Instagram & Tik Tok wankers don't want to enjoy a hike through the Peaks, they just want to photograph themselves in front of the beauty spots so at the weekend you will find 100s of cars parked badly on the verges around Mam Tor.. blocking the narrow streets, blocking access for the farm workers to their fields.. they don't give a fuck as long as they get their fake reality photo.. show us the reality you c**ts! the fucking awful reality which you have created.

  9. The monthly wash (post) Six months into these, not much change apart from some small holes forming here and there and a snagged outseam, the back is a bit pathetic in terms of fading but these are worn for work and they are what they are..

  10. It's more similar than you give it credit for.. .. from memory, the guy who established 4Chan (moot) used to post on Something Awful.. there was some internet beef over furry culture spreading over numerous threads, he was banned, he set up 4Chan where furries could chat without oppression.. (akin to Denimbro ) other threads popped up loosly based around anime.. and eventually a stickies page. .. all quite harmless.. but because folks posted anon, and nothing was archived folks could say what the hell they wanted so the early days it had a strong libertarian lean.. but with this backdrop it really was the wild west.. a breading groud for hackers, meme culture.. the birth of the modern interwebz. Eventually the forum was split into blue screen SFW or pink screen NSFW which i'm not going to post (sufu also had similar NSFW threads in this era) so as not to deter advertising revenue. .. the /pol thread was only set up to keep politics out of the other threads but it became a breeding ground for the worst of human nature.. it singlehandedly birthed the alt-right.. moot quit after GamerGate, a million terrible, terrible things happened, on the flip a million good things happened which we hear less about, it's like trying to sum up human nature in a paragraph.. i still think the bad far outweighs the good but that doesn't mean the good didn't happen.. but for a casual observer like me.. absolutely fascinating! A bunch of Soyjacks who were banned from 4Chan hacked the forum, exposed the sourcecode and the mods personal deets and logs.. incredible drama!.. i'm not sad that 4Chan is gone.. i'm just sad at what the internet has become and these links to the old web are gradually being erased.

  12. I've never posted on 4Chan but it's death has me deeply nostalgic for old internet culture.. those halcyon days before absolutely fucking everything was monotised to the nth degree and google still worked.. as an adult, i've never really watched TV but i have been a.. let's say, casual observer of the internet. I mean, the internet still sucked back then but at least it's suckiness had foundations in reality, it's personalities were real people rather than realities created to generate likes.. heck, i've spent the last week researching what happened to characters like Boxxy and that crazy fuck Shmorky where did these people go? I've been tracking down the birth of meme culture and crimes solved by internet communities.. i suppose for our younger viewers, the internet will have always been part of their lives.. but for my generation.. ZX Spectrum & Sega Megadrive aside.. I'm lucky enough to have spent the first half of my life outdoors without any technology so i was never a bored teenager with the internet at my fingertips.. my only reason for getting the internet in my mid-20s was so i could buy stuff.. Don't worry, the irony isn't lost.. Places like sufu are like internet gold dust nowadays.. a relic which remains largely unchanged (unlike 4Chan, it hasn't taken a crazy swing to the right, not yet anyway) not many places like this left.. So, the stage is set for Double 0s question of the week "The Internet" has it always been part of your life? what were your first memories or experiences.. did you post on Myspace or any other fora before sufu? if yes.. what kinda shit did you post, have you been part of any other groups or communities? any folks who entered their teenage years without the internet and left their teenage years as part of the internet..

  17. See, internet is pretty cool^ i think we are the same age @Double 0 Soul so my internet life started probably in 2001. First just emails. i was surprised to see how people spiced up their life’s on MySpace . in real life “normal” online super intellectual , underground movies and music. And to top it off camp was the rage. Played all fields. decided I was not gonna play. so mostly (window) shopping some tumblr. Discovers fora in 2007 ish, being not good with letters I was intimidated by it, but joined DB 2009 or so. nowadays instagram it’s, fun , horrible, informative , bad advice. Brain dead past time.

  18. @Double 0 Soul@ATWM as much as I enjoy thrashing denim and seeing how they evolve. It’s getting so expensive. Might have to go back to my budget work jeans the wrangler 13MWZ. For $30 they’re tough as nails and actually fade quite well.

  19. Someone had asked about longer type 1 jackets. This is one option. For size 4 (L/XL) in a one/wash with shoulders 51cm and chest 59cm it has a back length of 71cm (vs. say a WH or FWs in 42 or 44 with around 61cm). This is also offered for a very reasonable price of JPY 19,800. The denim is 14oz selvedge, apparently all made/produced in Japan: Kurashiki, Okayama. https://acidhouse.stores.jp/items/679c8667b859d3030c0ff020

  20. For people looking for denim chinos. I just saw, that Jelado will issue a denim version of their 41 chino. I've got the khaki 41 and am very happy with it. Great fabric, nice details and a comfy fit. The denim version uses their 10.5oz blue tag Last Resort denim, that they developed for their reproduction of the Lee 91J chore coat, so like the Jelt denim. They seem to be in pre-order now. https://jelado.com/products/jelado-41-denim-ag94341da?variant=49464600133920

  21. There won’t be too many foreign guests in Odesa this summer, what with the war and all. Maybe ten or fifteen—drifters out of time and place, drawn by their fondness for Ukrainian girls and blissfully deaf to the loud, unsettling noises of missiles and drones.

  22. In a curious conflict I was told by S+S that the black anniversary jeans follow typical OA sizing - which is in opposition to the above description. They told me this info was straight from the duo themselves and that they were going with their normal OA size. Black OA jeans were one of the few bucket list items I've concocted for myself that I will get if issued no matter the timing (another is if they ever redo the cossack jacket), so I pre-ordered a pair with planning them to shrink FROM tag, as per usual for OA jeans. I won't be shocked if I have to modify my order.
