^finally I can see your pics. still looking big on you but I don't know what fit you were after. also the sagging adds to the more 'baggy' look. and hemming seems to be inevitable

Thanks all. I like the fit.. it's a true straight leg. I don't think I would have been able to size down anymore, the rise and waist wouldn't be able to stand it. Once I get around to rollin out to Frisco, I will be sure to get them hemmed.

And I'm not really trying to sag, just wearing them around my hips like I wear all of my pants.

still pretty undecided about the fit and whether to give it another hot soak.

another soak wont do any harm , if you can get another bit of shrinkage from the top block they will be perfect

That's a shame bF. Can it be your water - are you on well water or public water? I have a well and it sometimes discolors my buttons but I shouldn't think it would happen to gold. Give your friends at Samurai hell!

The buttons will rust because the gold is only a plating. Gold plating is extremely porous, which will allow any moisture to get to the base metal below, I would guess that Samurai have done this for "authenticity" purposes.

yeah I know that it is only plating...but would have thought it would be kinda "thicker". but thanks for the explanation Gavin!

And of course the water is the problem as I also added additional salt to the water while soaking or less indigo loss

No worries Tilmann, I work with gold plated wires and cables a lot, so I see this kind of thing (and oxidisation) quite often.
