Nice Things

My girlfriend and I put an offer on a house a few weeks ago that didn't get accepted, but in a weird small world coincidence it turned out that the seller was one of my college professors who I've kept somewhat in touch with professionally.

Since it was his father's house which he inherited, and he was just trying to clear it out I reached out to him to see if he was interested in some extra cash for some of the furniture. There was a bunch of furniture that we loved, but this Johnson Carper set stuck out in particular. He wasn't interested in selling, he just wanted it gone and was happy to give it to us for free. I don't know much about mcm resale value, but I gotta imagine this set could easily sell for at least $700 or so. 

We just had an offer accepted yesterday, so hopefully everything looks good after inspections and this stuff doesn't have to live in my parents' dining room to long. 

Bedside table, tallboy, lowboy with mirror, and headboard. Also got a cool hanging wall lamp that I don't have a good picture of.

Thank you, I'll make sure to post pictures once it's furnished in a couple months! We got lucky finding a place $75,000 less than our budget which feels feels great.

Nice! Love his work, He's done a few murals down in Dunedin, I visit them every time I head south, I'll go take the same photos I take every time when I'm down there in a few weeks

Feel daft putting this in the Nice things thread, but l've had it hanging around in the loft for donkeys years and it's just found a new owner so.

It complies to something nice that l love within my home but also it was my home on and off for a couple of years away back in my yoof.

 

Macpac super lightweight backpacking tent, which l bought in June 1996, packed away in 1999 and hardly used since. Certainly not used in the last 20 years. 

Selling point for me that it was the lightest tent on the market at the time and is quick and easy to use. I hiked it around Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand for nearly 2 years and at one point it was pitched in one place for two months! It really was compact living. 

And in situ in the garden with his mate's tents..

 

 

Hopefully my son will get into using it more often.

Macpac from that era was a nice thing. They were an innovative company that did loads of R&D, prioritized repair over replace. 

Sometime in the 2000s they were bought out by the founder of Kathmandu, and she turned it into just another mass market made elsewhere, cheaper to replace than repair.  (still better quality and design than Kathmandu stuff IMO, but not the great NZ product it used to be)

There was some coffee talk here not too long ago. I, too, have achieved good results with just a Breville Barista Express. Last winter, I was very spoiled with a La Marzocco gs3 and a Mahlkonig e65s in my house that were related to a business which I have since sold.

Nice home setup. I ran a cafe in its early days on a k30 and a gs3. Sometimes a simple setup gives wonderful results.

 

I may be going back into the professional coffee world after a 6 year break. I miss making my whole life coffee...

I always forget about the idea of being a for-hire barista with a cart. I've seen successful cafes that started off that way, might be worth looking into... a single group Synesso would be my vibe.

A miniature and very cheap (around 1 USD) coffee filter. I bought it during recent trip to Vietnam. It’s used everywhere there. I also discovered the world of Vietnamese coffee, learning that Vietnam is one of the main coffee exporters in the world. The most popular coffee there is robusta. But my favorite coffee at the moment is luwak.
