Orizzonti-era XX pair. 

 

Both @JohnM and me had our takes on a deadstock pair but either the seller didn't want to sell to a proxy service or someone else was quicker...

Hey everyone, welcome to an edition of "Fades I did not earn myself." Just clearing the air straight up in case this might be perceived as an example of "stolen valor". This pair arrived in the mail not long ago. Earlier on in this hobby, I would never have bought heavily-used jeans. But they can have a lot of merit and be considered an art in themselves. Plus they are a good way to switch things up when I still want to don some nice jeans and don't want to use my barely faded jeans.

I bought these because:

- they are apparently 25 years old (give or take) in original condition, pre-dating the Orrizonti era, the user claiming they were from a Denime store in Fukuoka,

- the fades are moderate contrast, with beautiful puckering at the seams and magnificent train tracks,

- very desirable (for me) leg twist in almost equal amounts in both legs,

- great condition and immediately serviceable with no major structural damage, no stains, and just the smell of an old wardrobe,

- a piece of history from a storied brand.

Only some of the button holes weren't in great shape, so I got them reinforced by hand. The local tailors would have done it cheap and fast but I honestly didn't want to trust them with it when I could do the work myself without trimming anything out. Amazingly the thread everywhere else (including the top waistband button) is in great shape. They didn't cost much and even the fades at the front line up for me.

I might try to get some fit pics up at some point but they are running super small in the waist for me. Once I do up the top button they are seriously riding up and that's probably not the best. But, I'm starting to see that Hayashi-san silhouette going on, even if I'll never be in great shape like the man himself. Anyway, photos now.

They look indeed great! If someone is looking for worn in jeans, Denime is a good brand as there is quite a big stock available on Yahoo ir Mercari.

Does anyone have experience on how the old '66 fabric is expected to behave and stretch? I can literally just get these buttoned. I do need to lose a couple of kilos.

The inner stitching on the back pocket was worn off so I did an early repair.

 

What would I do without my garn from Citron Jeans?! Best colour match on the majority of brands

As you know I do have a pair. When i bought them (washed and lightly worn ) they measured 35". I washed them of course and they shrank to 33". I would need to measure them again but I would be surprised if they wouldn't measure 34.5-35" now.

Sorry to bother and bore you all.

When John (and later me) tried to buy that deadstock Orizzonti pair, I found this pair of Denime XX from the Shins-era at the same time. Snagged them for 14k ¥ which is quite okay I think. They looked like a one-wash pair with some wear but these were never worn.

This completes my Denime XX collection with a pair from each era. And they are all different of course.

So perfect @beautiful_FrEaK! I have a backlog of many Denime updates to share. Including an Orizzonti S506 that looks to be pretty new on its way to me now. 

Question, what info do you know about WWII editions back in the Orizzonti era? I have only seen a couple pop up here and there but rarely with enough pictures to understand the details. Are they just an XX with laurel leafs, olive bags an no coin pocket rivets or is it a different fit, pocket shape, etc?

@Graytrain as my sample size is n=1 for XX and WW2 from the Orizzonti era, please take it with a grain of salt.

The WW2 is a touch straighter in the lower leg. Top block is not too different but my WW2 feel tighter. As a note, they had been boiled to death by the previous owner I guess.

They have the laurel leaf buttons, lack of rivets, wider back pockets, wonky stitches to show the WW2 characteristics (I want to believe Denime was the first brand to pay attention to this, prove me I am wrong!!!), all yellow stitching, the denim feels different to the XX but I can't say it actually is a different denim, my pocket bags are white canvas. They used different material for different runs.

@beautiful_FrEaK Thank you! That is exactly the input I wanted. I have been on the lookout for sometime but for every 20 newish pairs of XX that come up (rare enough as it is) there's maybe 1 pair of WWII.

There are pairs every now and then but yes, much rarer than the XX.

You often find worn pairs but also some deadstock pairs were available recently. I always send the links to @Flash with pairs in his size...but he just won't buy them
