Since we opened the brick and mortar store in April one of the biggest pleasures we get is seeing new customers walk in and flip out at the quality of the fabrics our brands develop. Sometimes, when a final shirt sells, we kind of miss seeing it on the rail. But we soon replace it with something new and  equally stunning and feel good again.

 

The winter 2014 collection from Iron Heart includes this extra thick 100% cotton western flannel in purple buffalo check. We had to order it in. It's one of our favourite pieces of the season. This will keep you warm and looking pretty good throughout the cooler months. The double brushed lining will ensure that.

Junior is wearing a medium shirt. He weighs 65kg and is 173 cm tall.

A quick couple of shots of my two most recent purchases - 3Sixteen ST120-x and the Rivet and Hide English bridle leather belt. As ever, nothing but good things to say about both these products and the shop and of course Danny & Junior. The Jeans were ordered online and I took them with me on a visit to London recently, had an excellent chat with them both and also another customer (who was wearing the oldest PBJ's i've ever seen, damn does that denim age well....). Really relaxed and friendly and Junior hemmed my ST's as we chatted. Perfect.

Iron Heart fans will be familiar with the IHSH-33 indigo 12 oz. selvedge denim western shirt. We have just brought it to the store.

It's Bank Holiday Weekend here in the UK. In addition to our normal hours on Saturday 23rd August 1100-1800 we shall additionally open on Sunday and Monday 1200-1700.

Robin Johnson who designed and fitted out the London store has just finished  fully restoring and customising a 1000cc 1979 BMW Cafe Racer. This is one bike. It rides fantastic. It sounds fantastic. Our collection of leather goods made by the master craftsmen at Obbi Good Label has grown considerably of late. Each of their wallets is cut and tightly stitched by hand.

We have chosen mid-size wallets with rein attachment, elegant billfolds, travel wallets, coin pouches, reins and brass chains.

The Boondocker Wallet is inspired by the boots issued to the US Marines throughout WWII. They have adapted the pattern from the back on the boots, putting it on the backbone of the wallet. They come in Latigo Horween, Japanese Natural Top Grain, and Black Aniline cowhide leathers.
They have 4 visible and 3 hidden card slots, a zipper compartment, bill slot, and leather rein attachment.

Two "heavy" arrivals this week. The Iron Heart IHSH-76 can be worn as a substantial shirt or over sized as a jacket. It is made with 17 oz. indigo selvedge denim. It comes with large copper snaps and twill lined cuffs, collar stands and side pocket linings.

 

The Indigofera Iconic Japanese fleece hoody  features a warm off-white waffle knit lining and comes in charcoal.

The Mister Freedom Okinawa CPO shirt comprises of 50% cotton and 50% sugar cane fibre. The fabric exudes character with its abundant nep and slub. A must have shirt for anyone serious about their denim. It is made using an 11 oz left hand twill denim, with olive green 100% cotton stitching, black anchor buttons, in a military uniform fit. It will shrink down one size. James is wearing a medium in the photo. He would choose a large to wear personally. (83 kg and 188cm)

How long is a piece of string? We need to get this machine properly serviced. We want to concentrate on the store itself so once we are able to do this it will be strictly on a basis of jeans bought Windmill Street rather than posted in. We don't want to be inundated with repairs that we have not been able to assess first in person. In the meantime, we can always recommend a good tailor for repairs.

We did a soak on a shirt but not the one modelled. It shrinks down one size so James shows how a large would fit once soaked.

The fabric for this shirt was limited to a certain number of shirts so as much as James would have loved another one shrunk for him we just could not do that.

As a Note: I typically buy size Medium 38-40 in shirts and have bought a tag sized 'Large' in this. It is was over sized when raw but will shrink down to fit as a medium should.

To check the sizing Danny had me try on the Raw Tagged 'Medium'. It fit well - the fit i am aiming for with the size Large.

This shirt covered a number of 'Wants' for me all at once:
Left Hand Twill, A Sugar Cane (made) fabric, A 50/50 Cotton/Sugar Cane fibre, CPO model & designed by Mister Freedom.

It's currently drying. Will  give it a second soak depending on sizing.
The smell of it is unique - Sweet sugary cane smell, even stronger when it's wet. Lovely.

The fabric is incredible. A heavy, neppy, rigid grey/blue/ black. Hard to capture the colour properly as it changes in the light.
Olive stitching is quite subtle but pops when you see it up close. Will brighten up as the fabric lightens I hope.

The thickness of the fabric at the elbow pads and yoke etc is something else.

I'm really happy with it, looking forward to breaking it in over this winter.

I imagine that this might become something of a Mister Freedom classic like the liberty CPO did. Not many of them in Raw as far as I know. Think 'Hens-teeth'.

It has actually measured up to my expectations, unlike some clothing which I become over excited about and then feel slightly let down when I have them in hand.

Get one whilst you can people. It won't disappoint you.

Knit is a local creative technology agency. They are one group of people who truly live up to this widely used title. They have utilised the window space at our Windmill Street store to create an installation, which allows potential customers to hear the story of Hiut Denim and the product details as they interact with different parts of the product by touching the relevant icons on the outside of the window.

 

This is the first time that conductive ink has used through glass and as part of an in-store retail installation. As people walk past the store a sensor detects their proximity and a random audio sample using transducer speakers on the window encourages them to find out about the story about Hiut Jeans. For example, “Our town is making jeans again. Touch the window to find out more.â€

 

The  icons represent different parts of the brand story  and are painted onto the inside of the window using conductive ink, with wires on the inside of the window linking to the relevant parts of the product. Inside the pair of jeans includes various Arduino microcontroller units to control the audio samples and triggers.

 

The conductive ink is able to detect the change in the capacitance as the person touches the window icon, which in turn triggers the circuit to play the relevant audio sample. As well as audio, light bulbs are also triggered to switch on to create visual impact.

To coincide with the launch of the conductive ink window installation we have restocked all of Hiut Denim Jeans.

 

We have also introduced the new SlimR fit which is exactly what the name suggests. A slimmer version of the Slim cut with a narrow leg opening. The Japanese selvedge comes from Kuroki as before. The new denim has a slight green cast and a touch of slub.

This small group of denim workers deliver some very highly crafted jeans from this remote coastal town in Wales.
