From a US perspective, the biggest factor in determining whether duty will be assessed is the shipping method.

Lol. Nonsense.

Everything goes through Customs and the import duties are assessed on the value of the package, regardless of the shipping method.

can anybody comment on the j28-k? how is it compared to gore-tex? thinking of getting the olive one. but not too sure on the breathability of thee fabric.

Guessing it uses the same fabric as the J43-K? Same fabric composition and the inner/outer textures looks similar.

Breathability feels close, maybe a tiny bit better than standard Gore-tex (using ACG jacket as reference). Nothing special. Ventile/stotz is still more comfortable. Dunno about Pro.

Had a sizing question for the J1A-GT, hoping some of you who own the piece can help me out. I'm about 5'9-5'10 and ~140lbs. Thinking a Small, but could feasible fit a Medium. I live in Canada so definitely want to have the jacket accommodate layering and some Interops action as well. Any thoughts on best size?

I'm 5'9 and 145lbs and a small is the best size imo. I was in Asia 2 months ago (freaking cold) and was wearing a crewneck with J50-ws (size medium) as insulator all under my small j1a-gt and it was very comfortable.

But i live in California so Canadian winter is a different game. Really depends on how many layers you're trying to pack under it.

Dude, less than 1% of package shipped through regular post are checked by custom (I have this info from a USPS executives). Private carriers make sure to hit you with appropriate duties because it allows them to charge an admin fee. USPS doesn't even anywhere near the resources necessary to assess every packages and it is widely known that the chances of getting hit are beyond slim.

I second the small.  I'm 5'7 140 and the small is great on me, definitely allows for layering.

You guys are both right.  Everything does go through customs, and 1% of regular post items are checked by custom - but that's because of their declared value.  I'm not sure what the de minimis threshold is (in Canada its 60-80 dollars); I'm sure its higher in the US.  Every package above the de minimis threshold will get assessed duties because it is worth the time investment to process it.  99.9% under the threshold will not.  And you are right, private carriers assess duties to justify their brokerage/handling fees.

Ogam is talking about letter of the practise; you're talking about business practicalities.

Just got the olive one. It's way less noisy and crispy/crinkly than Gore-tex Pro. If I didn't know it had a membrane in it, I would have thought it was just a regular windbreaker. That's how it feels to me. It's more comfortable than Gore-tex Pro because of that. I can't speak to breathability/waterproofness of it.

Was the last j44 Gore pro as well?

Thought it has been Paclite.

Last year's J44 is Paclite. I actually think that version looks better than the new J44 in Pro. The Paclite gives it more structure and thickness, so it actually drapes a bit. Although, when it rains out, the Paclite laminate feels kind of clammy.

Anyone see a difference with J32-GT 1.1? Other than the 100 Eur markup...

Shit the more I look at the J28-K purple, the more I want, but S is sold out...

And the S16-WS is sold out o_o

The difference of 100€ should come from the normal increase and a lower Euro

Last year's J44 was not paclite. It's made from 3-layer Proshell with the microgrid backer.

Why do people keep getting this wrong?

anybody else find this acrhive instagram account cringey as fuck? had to unfollow it was getting out of hand.

Yep... lots of bad vibes and ridiculous stuff. Still got a few decent shots. I thought that it might become a nice place for the community on instagram but really it's more a gallery of Asian kids trying to look badass.
